I don't think that's what they meant. They were mainly wondering why the transitions weren't as smooth as they are on PS5 considering the 4090 had plenty of resources to spare for decompression. It indicates a potential bottleneck either in the DirectStorage API or the Nvidia driver in regards to RTX IO.

As for the animation, I wish they put the effort in to change that fixed animation into one that ends with a short idle animation loop that repeats until the lo...

Yeah that makes sense. I remember tests with slower than internal PS5 storage m.2 drives indicating that Ratchet & Clank doesn't utilize the full bandwidth of the PS5. It's interesting that there seems to be some kind of bottleneck preventing RTX IO to decompress the assets as fast as the dedicated decompression hardware does in the PS5. It seems to me that the high-end PC potentially would've performed better in that section with less compressed assets since the NVME drive ha...

This is pretty good, although some of the transitions are noticeably more stuttery compared to PS5. The entire sequence takes ~1.5 seconds longer too which could indicate that the rift transitions are now dynamic in length which could accomodate for slower storage configurations on PC. I don't have time to go frame by frame right now, but hopefully the performance reviews will include lower end SSD and HDD storage as I'm really curious how they've optimized for slower storage syst...

Only if From Software decides to have it published under these circumstances, which I doubt since Activision doesn't own the IP.

I've stopped playing League in 2016 or so, once I've realized that the community is just as bad at high elo, if not even worse. Kind of insane to think how much time I've wasted on that game though. At least it taught me not to get involved with team-based f2p games anymore.

Microsoft doesn't need to rely on Tom Henderson's leaks. You can predict these sort of things pretty accurately just by looking at publicly available information from TSMC's press releases and roadmap.

Obviously Microsoft / AMD has a lot more in depth information on node properties, wafer capacity and availability, yields and prices. And since a nodeshrink on the SoC is designed in collaboration with AMD for both Playstation and Microsoft, there is even a real p...

Drawing spells in FF VIII is one of the most overstated non-issues in the entire franchise. If you put battle speed on fast and understand that you don't need 3x 99 spells of everything available to draw early on, you won't spend much time grinding for spells at all. Learning card mod and magic refinement early will give you most of what you need.

I also don't understand the hate for the card games. I've always thought they were some of the best minigames av...

So basically, because game journalists are incompetent and have the attention span of a goldfish.

@maniacmayhem: I've specifically addressed your claim that the current patch was based on the demo feedback. The development time prior to that is irrelevant to that point. I've already said from the start that this shouldn't be a post launch issue at all.

To your point that there is less outrage in the case of FF compared to Starfield: First of all there was enough outrage, that Square felt compelled to respond to the issue. They responded in the best way possi...

@maniacmayhem: The demo came out June 12th. The current patch was live June 19th. That's a week. That's not enough time for performance optimization based on the feedback including internal testing, building the patch and submitting it for certification. I highly doubt the demo feedback had any impact on that patch at all.

I also don't get why you keep bringing up Starfield. That's a different game with different constraints. The fact that FF XVI nearly lock...

The devs already confirmed that they'll work on improving the performance mode based on the feedback of the demo. It's unfortunate that this kind of stuff has to be fixed post launch and it definitely shouldn't be that way, especially for a studio that explicitly takes pride in releasing a very polished product.

The performance mode as it is right now frankly seems like an afterthought. There doesn't seem to be much of a graphical difference between both mod...

Sure, I'm just saying that doesn't make it a Sony game. It's a 3rd party exclusive.

Good to see it's getting reviewed well. Can't wait to dive in tomorrow (hopefully my copy arrives on time).

I want VIII remake more than anything else, but the last thing I want is for them to rush VII just to get to the next one. They're clearly on the right track with VII, which is amazing to me considering there were a lot of ways to screw this up and very few to do it right.

VI could certainly be done on a smaller scale, but now that I've seen what they are doing with VII, I'd want VIII and IX to at least come close to this scale of a project and it's clearly ...

The MGS franchise always had real-time cutscenes so those aren't compressible video files. The older games had some real-life video footage but they've stopped using these with MGS4, so I don't know what extensive usage of HD video you're talking about.

Late to the party, I see. Pull up a chair. We've been here for decades.

People care about game preservation, because it's not just a pastime for some of us. We care about the artform and FF7 is not just a random title to me. If you don't care about that, take your own advice and move on. Digital storefronts aren't gonna disappear just because people are advocating for complete physical releases.

How is caring about the performance of a video game a strawman? Visual fidelity, resolution and frame rate all exist on a curve of diminishing returns. My issue is that we've been pushing for higher fidelity and resolution for decades, but performance has barely improved.

I can totally understand why few developers weren't willing to give up half of their render budget during the PS1 days for example, where geometry was basic and you barely had enough pixels to draw...

There are 66 comments on here and you're the only one who used the word unplayable, on two separate occasions. I don't understand why people feel the need to make strawman arguments all the time.

No 30 fps doesn't make games unplayable. Neither does SD resolution, but I don't see people advocating for sub-720p games. I play old games all the time, but I expect more from a current gen system. Why is it so hard to understand that expectations may differ depend...
