There are 66 comments on here and you're the only one who used the word unplayable, on two separate occasions. I don't understand why people feel the need to make strawman arguments all the time.

No 30 fps doesn't make games unplayable. Neither does SD resolution, but I don't see people advocating for sub-720p games. I play old games all the time, but I expect more from a current gen system. Why is it so hard to understand that expectations may differ depend...

If you got a midrange PC three years ago, you would expect it to perform similarly to the consoles. It won't magically run at a higher frame rate just because it's a PC. If you can get 60 fps by adjusting the setting on a comparable PC, they can also implement a similar preset on consoles and give people a 60 fps option. 60 fps is not a high-end target by any stretch of the imagination, so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect it as a lower fidelity option.

If there was a CPU bottleneck it would require a lot of optimization work, but If these recommended specs on PC can get it to 60fps, a performance mode should be possible on Xbox Series X by lowering graphical fidelity and resolution. On the other hand Todd implied that they don't want to ever sacrifice fidelity, which is strange considering the PC version of their games allows you to tweak graphical settings.

I don't think they're trying to deny it. It's clearly inspired by Bloodborne and Souls games in general. Defensive options are way too strong in the demo for it to truly feel Bloodborne-esque though. From Software deliberately took away block options in Bloodborne to make the combat have higher stakes and encourage an active playstyle.

Obviously this is a new IP and an entirely different development team, so I don't want to go into it with too many preconcei...

I love Prince of Persia (in particular the PS2 trilogy), but this left me cold. Might just be the terrible trailer music. Sometimes I wonder if the people involved in reviving old franchises even understand what they're working on.

@blitz: Remake was only on 2 discs on PS4, because those discs are 50GB discs. PS5 uses up to 100GB discs, so Intergrade fit on 1 disc on PS5, but unfortunately didn't include Episode Intermission on disc.

FF VII Rebirth trailer was incredible. On two discs! I'm so hyped.

@ApocalypseShadow: I don't have a crystal ball, but I highly doubt people will ever prefer a head mounted display over a stationary screen for non-vr games. It's less comfortable, constricting, potentially much more hazardous for your eyesight and most importantly completely pointless. There is no alternative to it in vr games, but why would anyone want to wear it for no upside at all?

The issue I have with some of your analogies is that they're not analogous. W...

I don't see why anyone interested in Rebirth wouldn't want to play Remake first. Both are available on PS5.

@ApocalypseShadow: I agree with most of what you said. VR technology has a lot of potential and if we're talking on a timescale of 30-40 years a lot will obviously change between now and then. To get to the point of mass market appeal it needs to be a viable business model, which is why I think it would benefit from branching out more into areas unrelated to gaming. You've brought up a lot of interesting examples of how VR technology can be useful outside of the entertainment segment ...

@anast: The VR market will certainly grow, but I don't see any indication that gaming as a whole will converge into the VR space. There are some games that naturally synergize with VR, but most don't.

If anything I believe that VR will become even less core-gaming centered and instead slowly shift towards immersive experiences and virtual spaces for social networks for example. If it's gonna play a major role in gaming, developers have to start rethinking game-d...

It's probably gonna play a role in entertainment, but considering it's still a niche market more than 10 years in, I wouldn't call it "the entertainment of the future" unless we're talking far future, in which case I wouldn't be confident making any predictions personally. The tech simply isn't there yet to be truly convincing and the trade-offs in game design freedom for added immersion is only worth it for specific types of games in my opinion.

"Imagine buying this with the promise of a complete edition..."

There's the problem, but people will never learn not to buy unfinished products unfortunately.

I replayed them on my PS3. I just think it would make sense for those games to be more accessible to Playstation gamers, which is where the majority of the modern FF fanbase is (due to the exclusivity deals of VII Re and XVI).

LR combat certainly has it's merits. I would've preferred it if it wasn't tied to the costumes which can make Lightning look quite ridiculous and out of place sometimes though.

But mainly I would've preferred to see an evolution of XIII-2 systems. Since they are so different it's obviously just a preference. Can't really compare them objectively.

Totally agree. I never fully understood why 10 was so universally praised when it had many of the same design philosophies xiii is criticized for.

At this point it's clear that it'll be a very conservative remake. Probably a smart decision to minimize the degrees of freedom. It just means they're less ways for them to screw this up. Fans of the original will be hypercritical and go over every change with a fine-tooth comb and Konami probably realizes that. People still criticize Twin Snakes for the rerecorded voicelines.

Recently replayed them and I agree a remaster would be great. The complaints about linearity are fair, but they only really apply to the first half of the first game and while I agree that it would've been nice to have proper towns, minigames and subquests, it didn't detract from the intriguing story, interesting characters, tactical gameplay and amazing soundtrack in my opinion.

XIII-2 fixes a lot of the issues of XIII and expands on the story in interesting ways. ...

Not a fan of the idea. I already dislike the fact that Insomniac was basically turned into Marvel game studios for the forseeable future. I'd prefer to see a new original IP from them after Wolverine, but realistically Sony will probably want them to keep oversaturating the market with super hero games until people get sick of them, the same way Disney did it with the movies.

@Nebaku
I don't even agree with the claim that the FGC has thrived for decades, let alone that it thrived for decades because of fighting games having a high skill barrier. To skilled players a high skill ceiling is certainly appealing, but that's very different from a high skill barrier.

Easy to learn, hard to master has generally been considered ideal for fighting games as long as I can think and while I personally love games like SF4 and Blazblue, dealin...
