Agreed. By the time it comes out I'll still be playing Rebirth. Any game releasing in march will have a hard time competing for my time. Doesn't mean I won't pick it up later on though, but then again, I still haven even bought Team Ninja's last title Wo Long, which also looks interesting to me.

Boxed copies still account for roughly 18% of the total game sales revenue on console. That's still a significant chunk. Obviously it's up to each publisher to decide, but I don't see why you'd deliberately ignore a 10 billion dollar market unless you can't fit a physical release into the initial budget.

Like many others have already said, I'm also waiting for a physical release. Would be interesting to see how much of a sales boost a delayed physical release would cause. Of course the timing of that release plays a role too. The next couple months are pretty stacked already.

"Most people can't relate to a black female named Saga Anderson lol."

Being unable to relate to a protagonist based on skin color and sex is literally a "woke" talking point, but go on.

How egocentric do you have to be to find this sort of stuff immersion breaking? Identity politics has broken people's brains.

You're off by three orders of magnitude there, so it's not quite as bad as you made it sound, but still - when you consider that a game like Modern Warfare II alone generated almost 2 months of Gamepass revenue in 3 days it becomes quite clear why this pace of growth won't cut it for Microsoft if they want to rely primarily on subscriptions for their heavy hitters.

It's kinda funny that Microsoft has maneuvered themselves into this situation, where a good po...

@-Foxtrot: Sony's interest in porting their games to PC has more to do with the fact that the console userbase hasn't been growing since the PS2 days, while AAA game budgets have increased by more than an order of magnitude since then.

To grow the target audience they have to look outside the Playstation ecosystem. The only reason why they haven't been much more aggressive with their PC strategy is because they need to tread carefully, not to lose their core mar...

You're in good company with that opinion, but I personallty I disagree. I've just replayed the entire franchise recently and the world in V is very well designed in my opinion. The mechanics work extremely well with the open world and it's pretty clear that a lot of thought has gone into the map layout.

With that said, I will agree that it would've been nice to see some large indoor base levels for a change. Ground Zeroes' Camp Omega is probably my favor...

Look at Bloober's track record. They aren't necissarily a bad studio, but they're clearly a strange choice to remake one of the most beloved japanese horror games of all time. None of their games even come close to SH2 in quality. If anything I'm surprised people got this hyped about the SH2 remake to begin with, knowing Bloober was gonna be at the helm of the project.

I hope you're right and it turns out fantastic, but there's plenty of reasons to b...

I love all the mainline numbered Solid games. If I had to separate them I'd probably put MGS1, 3 and V in the top tier, closely followed by MGS2 and MGS4, but they're all among my all time favorites.

As much as I like the story of Peace Walker, It's not a very fun game to replay. The fact that it was designed around a portable system makes it hard to enjoy on a home console in my opinion. The armored vehicle battle missions are extremely tedious and repetitive ...

I get not liking it, but why would they reduce the price for people who are already willing to pay the full price? These deals only exist to lure new customers into the subscription system.

Personally these deals don't do much for me. I haven't had PS+ for years and I currently don't see much of a reason to resubscribe. Maybe whenever I have more free time, I'll temporarily resub and try some games that I would't outright buy, but look interesting enough...

If even that. Kojima is competing with his past work on this one. If we assume PS6 might launch late 2028, that's not that much time to build a new IP to try and top his entire legacy. Especially considering that full production might not start until late 2025 for all we know.

Couldn't agree more. Not sure if this was already confirmed, but I'm also happy to see that Ludvig Forssell is still in charge of the original soundtrack. I wasn't sure if he'd score the sequel since he left KJP.

What a show. Probably my favorite State of Play so far. Death Stranding 2 looks nuts.

To each their own, but I don't understand the obsession with themes personally. I barely spend any time on the homescreen and when I do, app specific backgrounds serve a purpose by emphasizing what I'm hovering on. I just don't see much room for customization.

The phisical market is still large enough at this point that Sony would probably want to at least offer an optional disc drive for backwards compatibility purposes.

It is hard to say where the disc market will bottom out ultimately and whether what's left will be too large for publishers to ignore, but I don't think comparing the console market to the PC market makes much sense.

On PC you have ways around DRM on a per-game-basis, while on console ...

I do pretty much the same thing minus the pre-ordering. If a physical release relies on patches to fix critical issues and/or add vital features, I consider it a digital-only game.

I also make exceptions for indies, since it's more understandable that a physical release might not be feasible on a tight budget. For digital only games I usually go for the PC version.

True, but Ninja Theory were independent back then. With Microsoft publishing there is no reason to delay the physical release.

Not playing off discs has nothing to do with it. The key part is that you have the data and a non-expiring license locally. That's why having a feature complete and fully functioning gold master is important. The license on the disc is just there to prevent piracy.

It's not really about physical vs. digital media. The data on the disc is digital to begin with. The issue with centralized digital storefronts generally is that the license you're getting has an expi...

Sony should've just made it so that both games point to the same trophy entries on their server. It's kinda stupid that you basically get a second platinum trophy for free. Not that the competative aspect of trophy hunting is worth much anyway, when there are shovelware games specifically designed to give you an easy platinum in the least amount of time possible.

It's also strange to me that Sony still hasn't implemented a way to reset your trophies for a s...

A feature like this can't work on the system level alone. It would just be part of the SDK which developers can implement if they want to. So it wouldn't be universal and it almost certainly would be tied to PS+ with an option to turn off pop-up notifications for the game tips. In other words the feature might require you to be online, but the games should work fine without it (offline).
