It actually does both: a downgraded cheaper model saves costs, and at the same time can be sold to the uninformed customer as a new console to compete with the WiiU.
"Come here friend! Are you looking for a brand new WiiU for your kids? Forget about it, you can buy our brand New PS3S! Fully compatible with all our older PS3 games!"
@Ockbar
Your comparison is irrelevant. GenericNameHere compared perceived current bundle worths, not how much money Xbox live costed in the past 4 years and what features it does/doesn't have VS the PS3. I simply answered to GenericNameHere about the actual base price of the console itself.
Abiding to your logic, in order to have actual cross-gameplay chat on the PS3 (something gold members on the Xbox 360 have) you are actually required to buy a phone w...
Are you guys serious !?
The one person here that actually states the facts and bothers to look things up is get marked for trolling, while people who write stupid things like "it's all in-game" about photos which are clearly markes as concept art are gettings so many agrees!?
I'm sorry people, but your blindness is making you miss the whole point: The Gamingbolt article should have been the one to blame. EeJLP- just pointed it out.

@BitbyDeath
But the reason XMB is stuttering isn't due to lack of Memory, but rather to available processor cycles - the XMB is a background process and when it's called to the foreground it's like a computer waking up from suspend. If the console didn't have the system reserved memory to launch the XMB it wouldn't work in the first place.
Taking screenshots and videos would be a nice addition, but I think that it's mostly due to softw...
Every game is full of bugs? I recall my first Bethesda game was Home Alone and it was pretty much bug free. Their most recent Game is Dishonored (although they only Publish it).
Perhaps you're mostly talking about their Elder Scrolls games, then considering their hugh hugh scope and tons of playtime hours they are actually holding up pretty well (except perhaps for PS3 versions, but what can you do when you try to cram such a hugh game into an outdated architecture?)
Valve - Obviously. Don't even need to reason this.
CD Project - For always providing enhanced editions and more contents free for existing customers, especially in an era where other developers are nickle'n'diming you for virtual goods.
Bungie - one of the only companies ever providing free DLC for console based games. Not to mention their intense support of the online community, the tools they release to the public, and the encompassing service t...
Actually, SE originally tried to tie itself to the PS3, where both FFXIII and FFXIII VS were announced as exclusive.
But the tedious development process for the unusual architecture of the PS3 and its limitation they realized that it's hard to fulfill their vision, and the development of the engine for the PS3 took much longer than expected.
At the same time, they toyed for the first time with an external engine (unreal) when developing The Last Remnant, and reali...
I still don't understand: why is multi tasking so important for a console game? Do you have a sudden erge to render your latest animation in the background while playing a game? Compile some code? Extract a zip file!?
The only kind of multitasking I felt like I needed so far is chatting with my friends while playing, downloading new game demos, and perhaps playing my own music instead of the game default soundtrack. And I can already do this on a current gen console.
Sad to hear that. Although 10 hours barely scratch the surface of Skyrim: I'm about 160 hours and counting into the game with 2 different characters and no corrupted saves. Barely even 2 of 3 crashes to desktop. Probably the one of the most stable games I played last year considering how many hours I put into it, and definitely the most enjoyable.
The game has been perry much stable for most since as early as 1.2. Most of the new updates are just performance improvements ...
True. It's sad to see the author even put it there, and makes it seem he doesn't even know the franchise.
And there are so many actual new IPs he could have put in there instead, and even ones with an announced 2012 release date (unlike some games in that list): The Witness from Jonathan Blow, Remember Me from Capcom, The Cave and the new adventure game from Double Fine, The Wonderful 101 from Platinum Games... and the list goes on.
I think this is because you don't understand how pricing works: people who buy the bundle don't really consider the games and perihperals as worth the retail asking price.
And if they did, the X360 bundles will still look better. Consider this:
Xbox 360 slim 4Gb + Kinect Adventures (30$) + Kinect Sports (30$)+ Kinect (recently reduced to 110$) all for 250$. This puts the base 4GB Model at a "supposed price of 80$. Considering this perceived view ...
I'm sorry to say this but EeJLP is mostly right. This Gamingbolt article (like most of their stuff) has some pretty miserably chosen pictures that supposedly represent the quality in each game.
And these choices are weird, since all Halo games (Except for Halo Wars which uses CGI) have all the cutscenes done in realtime by the engine. And from Halo 3 onwards you can see amazing screenshots better representing the actual game thanks to the theater mode. Why didn't they...
@Oschino1907
I think that by "other games" he simply means Halo.
Thanks Thorstein! I'm glad to see more and more commenter saving us the bother of clicking on these miserable websites.
Personally 2013 looks kind of meh - especially compared to 2012 or 2011. The only RPG I'm actually excited about in 2013 is Grim Dawn, which isn't even on this list.
How about WW2 shooters?
I think you meant to say the biggest exlusive PS3 release this year. As for multiplats, there are some games on the PS3 which are pretty sure to surpass it.
Sells almost as good? I beg to differ...
The only game in the top 30 list where the sales are close is Fifa.. Even if we ignore FPS games (Borderlands 2: 127% better sales), we are left with:
RE5: 56% better sales
NBA 2K13: 24% better sales
Madden: 22% better sales
Yes, it is possible that some fanboys made ridiculous claims in the past about PS3 being bought mainly as a Blueray player (well, perhaps it was accurate for some people at ...
First DMC art!? We've seen the new Mundus a couple of months ago in the trailer:

Well, this explains it...
I don't want to get your hopes too high since people have different tastes and eventually the game might let you down after all the hype and praise it gets.
But the Andrew Ryan confrontation is pretty much the climax of the game and you have to experience it before you judge it (although it's not the end of the game - you still have about 1/3 game left after that).
Bioshock was also hard for me to chew on it a first, ...
Here is the list of games published solely by Microsoft Studios in 2012 for the Xbox 360 (excluding Kinect crap, and excluding 3rd party published games such as The Withcer 2), showing their EXTREME lack of care for the core gamer this year:
Halo 4
Forza Horizon
Super Time Force
Alan Wake's American Nightmare
South Park: Tenorman's Revenge
Fable Heroes
Deadlight
Sine Mora
Dungeo...
