Nintendo/Mario is constantly trying to innovate, part of the reason (I think) sales aren't as good as they should be. People have shown they want more of the same, a lack of innovation. The best selling games are generally 6 month instalment franchises. Even consoles. The Wii and Wii U for example scared people of by simply not being a .5 version of what had come before. The majority fear change.
Thank heavens for Nintendo who arent afraid to innovate and go in new direct...
I'm sorry. Minecraft is hugely successful, I agree, but possibly a fad? Lets see where Minecraft is in 30 years time, what it continues to offer in those 30 years, then we can talk...
Absolute tosh. No way Nintendoland was "more a tech demo than actual game". Its feature packed. So many games to play, so many things to unlock and find. A wonderful game.
You could have 200 games, all of which could be poor. Its called quality over quantity.
I'm sorry. If people are prepared to pay £40, £50 and sometimes £60 for the 6 monthly 'update' of a popular franchise, no reason why Bayonetta 2 shouldn't warrant equal billing. Fact is, no price cut will not convince the majority to buy Bayonetta 2, for that would mean buying a Wii U - and when all the 'cool' kids have PS4/XB1's...
Edit. Those who believe this game bombed (sales) and should have been released on PS4and/or XB1, I wo...
It isn't 'dark', increasing difficult, age restrictive or violent, so what's the point - said the self-proclaimed 'hardcore' gamer. I hope it runs at 1080p with all the visual extras turned up to the max at least. Hang on a sec. I forgot, gaming shouldn't be the sole accesses of the angry adolescent.
Smash is in the list, 3rd place. I agree with @ninsigma however. Yes, Zombi was good, innovative, but Toad (for me) a more polished and overall enjoyable game - pure Nintendo.
Not likely. Nintendo games have a habit (generally) of playing just as well in retrospect. I can't for the life of me imagine SM3DW (for example) not playing equally well - if not better - in 10 years time. The Dreamcast was a true gem of a console, but that was Sega, this is Nintendo.
I cant imagine Skyward Sword not doing much for anybody, let alone a self-proclaimed Zelda fan. It was EXACTLY the shake up the series required at exactly the right time - Twilight feeling for the first time in recent memory that the series was treading water - albeit still a great game. The idea that Zelda U will be ditching Motion Plus in favour of a 'traditional' control method is a massive disappointment.
I disagree that an 'essential' game must then equate to a 'masterpiece', but that's by the by. Definitely an essential game, NOT a masterpiece, in my opinion. Regarding its depiction of women. Yes, I'm afraid it does hinder the games greatness in my eyes. It could/should have gave us strong, complex, 3 dimensional female characters, instead we get a pre-prepubescents wet dream...poor.
Purely subjective - obviously, but (for me) MGSV is in no way a 'masterpiece'. A brilliant sandbox of ideas, looks splendid, runs flawlessly, BUT, its the stereotypes which let it down, big time. For a game which is trying to elevate the medium into something more 'grown up', its ideas on women in particular leave a lot to be desired. A HIGHLY recommended games none the less. Essential even.
That being the case, I hope Nintendo continue to work within their 'constraints' and from it offer us polished titles running at a buttery smooth framerate. If pushing games means more glitches and inconsistent performance, good luck with that.
Point entirely missed...
Nintendo games are as much 'kiddy games' as COD, GTA and The Witcher (for example). It takes a grown up not only to see this but be confident enough in themselves to not care either way. Great games, truly great games available via the Wii U (at present) EASILY justify the price of said console, saying otherwise is trolling, pure and simple.
I also own a PS4 and am playing Phantom Pain at the moment, so far (minus hospital ope...
For those of you sick of broken games, you should perhaps try the Wii U instead of sniping from the sidelines. 2014 offered a wealth of brilliant games and none of which found broken. 2015 already has Splatoon and Mario Maker, with plenty more 'must haves' incoming. If you are looking for quantity, yes, other major consoles are ahead in that field, but if its QUALITY you seek - games which keep on giving and are polished to perfection, I suggest you man up and try Nintendo...
That you - by your own admission - only own 1 game (albeit great) for the Wii U and don't play it much puts you in a poor position to comment. SM3DW, Bayonetta 2, Tropical Freeze, Splatoon, Smash, Pikmin 3, etc, etc...none of these appeal? If so, you have to ask yourself, why did you buy a Wii U in the first place!?
Depends. I agree with @Pookandpie the PC/Wii U combination is best if you want to play the majority of great games on the market. Both XB1 and PS4 combined don't possess enough (if any) really great exclusives that weren't available last gen at least. Owning a Wii U myself I cant help feeling people are really missing out not owning one with so many truly great games simply unavailable on any other platform.
The PC with everything turned up is EASILY best, but, unless under a microscope side by side, in real terms both current gen console offerings look and run amazingly.
Yes, I also have a dedicated graphics card, 8gb of PC ram, but its my processor which sucks. An Athlon, a pretty poor one sadly.
Fine, but will it run well on my sub-stamdard PC? Seriously, I'd like to purchase it but am dubious as to how it performs.
Its true. Apart from the Mario platforming series becoming a 4 dimensional racing sim I fail to see how Nintendo can innovate much more with the franchise, and yet they continually do, much to my surprise and amazement.
