If the "Wii mentality" wins out in the gaming industry, then they will have lost one customer here. I am one of those customers looking for that quantum leap in technology in the next generation of gaming, eagerly awaiting true photo-realistic cinematic gaming. The Wii doesn't even come close to delivering that.
It's good for Nintendo that they hit a success like they did with the Wii, but I hope that Sony and Microsoft do NOT alienate customers like me and bring out ...
And the DualShock 3 is truly the controller Sony should have launched the system with.
I will be trading in the two SixAxis controllers I have when the DS3 officially comes here to the states. I haven't used either of them since mid-November... :-)
This is a great thing in the age of HUGE media files...
Personally, I would love this for audio recording projects. I can just put a huge drive in my laptop and not have to lug around an external drive to save the audio to.
24bit/192Khz audio gets HUGE quickly, 562.5KB/sec. I would LOVE a 1TB drive for my laptop... ;-)
Talk about comparing apples to potatoes...
What does the installation time of ONE PS3 game have to do with the buffering time of watching an HD movie on Live marketplace? (Besides, DMC4 had the longest install time of ANY PS3 game by a longshot)
"Btw - Your whole Ping time talk is total nonsense and you know it. You are just looking for something to hate about it.. it's ok you don't have to be jealous, envious and a pathetic sour loser."
So you're saying that it's a myth that during peak usage times, your transfer speeds drop and your latency (ping time) goes up? Even if you're on a DSL or fiber connection (straight pipe between you and the distribution hub), you are still limited by the trunk line running to ...
"AGAIN, than how do you describe what happen with cd's??? The cd market completely died to mp3. Tower Records, a once big cd store, has gone out of business because of digital download. The same will eventually happen with movies."
Let's see... MP3's are usually 3-7MB, which would take 32-74 seconds to download @ 768Kb/sec. Not to mention that MP3's were WIDELY traded FOR FREE when they first hit the scene. And even now with the RIAA cracking down on P2P music/movie/...
"Wow dude. Prior to PS3, 360, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, I'm sure you were happy with DVD @ 5.1. Now you're telling me you're not happy unless it's 1080p @ 7.1. So before it wasn't like the theater right? There isn't a person in the world that can tell whether a movie is in 1080p or 720p with their human eyes. You my friend, are a tool."
Considering that before HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, DVD was the ONLY CHOICE, then yeah, I was somewhat happy with it (LaserDisc still had better pict...
"The thing is that you are only renting it for 360 ms point or 480 points if its a new release. About 4-5 buxs after 24 hours of playing."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
"In the United States, 80 points are equal to US$1. As a result, an 800 point arcade game would retail for US$10 in real-world currency."
So, 360 M$p would be $4.50 USD... ...
The 360 Premium is only $50 less than a 40GB PS3. An extra $50 for more reliable hardware, double the hard drive space, and Blu-Ray it's pretty much a no-brainer on which system to go with...
And before anyone tries to chime in with the 360 Arcade being $120 less than the 40GB PS3, the Arcade won't be able to use the GTA4 DLC (along with the Live video marketplace and a good few other things) without a $100 20GB hard drive, so it works out to only $20 less than a 40GB PS3.

'Cuase that Mii kinda looks like a black Jesus...
And with Jesus being from Israel, and so close to Africa, he definitely wasn't a pasty white Honkey McCracker... ;-)
And that's HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA, Muhuhahahahahahahahahahaha, Muhuhahahahahahahahahahaha...
Glad to see that Microsoft is not going unchecked in their monopolistic desires. If they would not have become flat-out greedy in the late 90's (doing things like threatening OEM's with drastically increasing their Windows and Office licensing costs if they continued pre-installing Netscape Navigator on their PC's), they would not be in all of this antitrust trouble righ...
Not surprising for a company that waited until late 2005 to even bother with online play. They are WAY behind the curve as far as online gaming goes.
I would not expect much from the Wii online-wise... It could improve over time, but the way Nintendo chose to go with it severely limits the community aspect of online gaming.
Just one more opportunity for the competition to catch up to and pass the Wii in overall sales...
Resistance, Motorstorm, and Heavenly Sword have all received rumble patches. And pretty much every game released after Ratchet & Clank (other than CoD4) has supported rumble right out of the box. Even third party cross-platform games...
That just SUX...
"God forbid they do though because PSN most likely wont have the ability to spot these "Modded" consoles to the degree Xbox LIVE does."
Do you really think they would make that kind of mistake after the PSP getting OWNED by DarkAlex? Think about it...
Although I do agree that the user-upgradable hard drives could end up biting Sony in the a$$ if a HDD loader like this is seriously released. Why do you think that Sony was so quick to drop HDD sup...
I really hope that Infinity Ward includes rumble support in this update. The DualShock 3 controllers will be out in the US in a month, so it would be good timing to do it now.
CoD4 is the only recent PS3 game I have that does not support rumble.
Is the complete lack of a standard. Right now you have competing standards, which means that you are stuck locked into one vendor's implementation.
For example, if you download a movie using the XBox Live movie service, will you be able to play it back on your friend's Apple TV box? Will you be able to play it back on another 360? Nope, and Nope...
Where with Blu-Ray, I can play it back on my PS3, or a buddy's Samsung Blu-Ray player, or on a PC with a Blu-Ray driv...
Nintendo has been banking on the Mario, Zelda and Metroid franchises since the early 80's... But who can argue with it if the games sell plenty of copies...
Now Sonic... Yeah that one is pretty much past its prime... The only thing keeping Sonic alive is getting included in Nintendo's franchises... The last few Sonic games were AWFUL.
It would be hard to retire the Nintendo oldschool franchises... That pretty much makes up almost all of Nintendo's heavy hitters....
Even if Infinity Ward just went through and re-worked all of the old Call of Duty multiplayer maps, I would snap it up as soon as it came out.
I have been hopelessly addicted to all of the Infinity Ward Call of Duty games. And I would not mind paying for REASONABLY priced DLC for a game that I have had a blast with, and will get that much more entertainment out of.
You can pretty much officially call CoD4 a Halo killer... ;-)
CoD4 has been the top game on XBox Live for going on three months now. I know that I pretty much abandoned Halo 3 when CoD4 came out...
I wonder if they would still be cool with it if a Halo mod for UT3 came out for the PS3... ;-)
