If you think the anti-MS articles are bad now, you should have seen the Anti-PS3 articles back in late 2006 through mid-2007.
I can't even begin to describe how many "PS3 is just a blu-ray trojan horse", or "Sony forces features on you, where Microsoft makes it your CHOICE" articles were floating around. If you listened to all of the anti-PS3 doom and gloom back then, then it would seem like the PS3 was DOA.
And honestly, what was so anti-MS abou...
LOL... I've converted a few buddies that way... After an RROD/DVD drive error or two, they start asking me about the PS3...
The shame of it is that software-wise, the 360 is a good system... It's just the unpredictable hardware...
And that's why I use my PS3 for day-to-day gaming... Other than the 2.0 firmware controller glitch (which was fixed in the next firmware in a matter of days), I have had no issues with my PS3...
HD gaming is what brought me back to home console gaming. Coming from a PC gaming background, I got used to gaming in 1024x768 or better... Which happens to give you a BIG advantage in FPS games (where you can see other players from WAAAAAY off).
After getting my PS3 in December '06, it only took me a month before I had a 37" 1080p HDTV, and never looked back. Gaming is DEFINITELY better in HD.
TheMART gets all of his sales figures from VG Chartz ;-)
The only ones I don't have are:
Skate
MLB 08
Battlefield: Bad Company
Rock Band (I have it on the 360, but not on the PS3)
I have had my PS3 since December of '06, and I currently have 23 disc-based games and too many PSN titles (my PS3 games section on the XMB is getting crowded).
All in all I have owned 28 PS3 games over the time I have owned the system (gave away Tiger '07 and Fight Night: Round 3, traded in Ridge Racer 7, NFS: Car...
"And watch Sony easily break 20 mil by end of the calender year."
With the momentum that Sony has been building up, I would not be surprised with sales of 25 million PS3 consoles by the end of the calendar year.
Think of how many people will get a PS3 this holiday season for God of War 3 alone... Not to mention Resistance 2, Killzone 2, SOCOM, and LBP can add up for some monsterous PS3 sales...
I played BioShock a bit when it first came out for the 360. It's definitely a solid game.
Home integration and trophies will be enough for me to consider adding it to my collection.
LOL! I've been slowly but surely converting my 360 owning buddies over to the PS3... I've converted three so far, only five more to go...
The biggest selling point I have been getting them on is showing them what Blu-Ray movies look like on their HDTV's. That's usually enough to get their wife/fiancee/girlfriend in on it as well... ;-)
This is nothing new to Nintendo hand-helds.
One thing that would be interesting to see would be how DS hardware sales are affected if Nintendo manages to shut down all of the companies producing/selling flash carts...
True... But Dark-Alex (the one that PWNED the PSP) already has a PS3 section up on his site. There aren't any custom firmware releases YET...
I don't know how Sony pulled off the PS3 STAYING un-hackable this long into its lifetime.. Both the PS1 and PS2 were mod-able by almost two years in...
It actually sounds like you WANT Microsoft to rush out yet another console... Look at what happened last time they did that... :-P
Honestly, with both the 360 and PS3 able to do firmware updates and add additional software features the way they can, I don't see either company rushing out to get another new console out there on the market.
The only company I could see putting out a new console by 2010 or 2011 would be Nintendo. The Wii will be looking VERY dated by ...
"Fact is, the largest line up with the highest scoring games (this time the 360) also has the change of getting a pile of bad scoring games. But its not like the Wii at least, only a handfull 1st party good games and the rest a pile of mindless minipartygames..."
So by your logic, the 360 should be flying off the shelves... But 360 hardware sales have been in a slowdown since launch... The "Halo Effect" didn't last as long as expected, and GTA4 didn't bring ...
With Microsoft right behind them, with the Newton controller, more casual games, and Avatars... ;-)
This title has potential as a "toolkit" for the end user.
When used in conjunction with the right social networking, it can turn out to be pretty cool...
I wonder how many Spore related albums will pop up on DeviantArt... :-)
I'll probably pick this one up just to check it out and see what all potential it has... I see a planet full of Squidbillies coming soon.. ;-)
"Good points. One more thing the main selling points for ps2 are that 99% are modded to be able to play all region and pirated games for as low as $2. Had the console been only able to play original games costing 30-40$ then the number of units sold would have been drastically low."
Then explain why the original XBox didn't fly off the shelves in record numbers... It was EASY to mod, you could upgrade the hard drive and not even have to bother with discs (just rent a g...
Dude, nearly every game after Ratchet & Clank: ToD has supported rumble straight out of the box (except CoD4...)
Even Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection supports rumble, so Namco has already worked with it!
This is just BS... I can't believe Namco did that...
"it wasn't even hfaze's argument"
Glad to oblige ya ;-)
"1. Like download demos and play them straight away without installing them?"
Well, that is pretty neat... But one or two minutes out of my life won't kill me.. Worth $50/year to play online... FAIL
"2. Currently the XBL interface, everything integrates together, whether your gaming, watching a movie, music, or just on the Dash."
Are you referring to the "blades" interface, or the popup you get when you hit the XBox butto...
What exactly is it about Live that is so much better than PSN? The ONLY feature that Live has that PSN (currently) does not that I would even care for is the short voice messages cross-game.
Other than that, what else is there? Cross-game invites? That's just a pain in my a$$... When I'm playing CoD4, I don't really want to be bombarded with invites to play Halo 3... Besides, by the time you quit the game you're already in, swap the games, and get into the game you were invi...
Honestly though, her nomination for VP with McSame seems like a pretty petty move to bring in the militant Hillary Clinton (read, female nominee) supporters, and balance out the age equation on the republican ticket.
McCain is getting OLD... He's already come down with cancer three times, he's already over 65, and the sheer fact that this is 2008, and McCain is JUST NOW learning how to use the Internet... That puts Sarah Palin just a heartbeat (literally ;-) away from the presi...
