Then make sure to buy your Blu-Ray movies through a retailer that is charging rational prices.

I have only bought ONE Blu-Ray movie through a regular brick&mortar retailer (300 on Blu-Ray, $35) due to the retail prices put on Blu-Ray by most traditional retailers.

Now Amazon, different story. I have only paid over $20 US for a handful of movies. I got some of them for $15.

"the ps3 failed not next-gen"

If that is true, then why isn't the 360 selling anywhere near as many units as the Wii? If you're judging your opinion on how the consoles are doing in Japan, then both the 360 and PS3 are failures. The only current-gen system doing well in Japan is the Wii.

HD gaming seems like it is just not taking off in Japan. And the 360 was doing PATHETIC in Japan until they started releasing JRPG's and drastically cut the prices. The...

You're talking about two RADICALLY different architectures. The 360 is more like a PC in how you develop for it, and the PS3 is more like a vector processing supercomputer.

Both architectures have their pluses and minuses. Although the 360 CURRENTLY has the ease-of-programming factor going for it, the PS3 architecture has more staying power with its higher-end CPU and RAM.

As the PS3 SDK evolves, it will become far more easy to develop for (just take a look at th...

If The Conduit does not do well, that would be a shame. It is the one Wii game coming out that I am most excited about.

I'll be picking it up to check out what all this new graphics engine is capable of, and to see if they have got the controls right for a Wii FPS. Metroid was pretty good, hopefully The Conduit will be more refined.

Trophy support for MGS4 would have me playing through the game another four or five times... I would be obsessed with getting the platinum trophy for MGS4... ;-)

Although the GTA4 patch tomorrow will have me going through it again... I feel so dirty being this obsessed with trophies after bashing achievements so much in the past. :-P lol

"Oh come on, stop moaning $ony. U had enough income until now."

I guess unlike Micro$oft which has billions of dollars in liquid assets (i.e. money sitting in bank accounts), yet still outsources support to India for "cost savings" instead of giving qualified US citizens the jobs (you know, Micro$oft's home country, the place that allowed them the opportunity to make those billions of dollars). Or manufacturing their console in Mexico, and getting the wonderf...

I'm the same way about PC/Mac software (gave up on PC gaming years ago... Got tired of building a new rig every 2-3 years to play the latest games decently).

I'll download a cracked copy to check it out (like Adobe Creative Suite, Reason, etc.), but if I like it, I'll find a way to buy it legit. Granted, I'll usually pull off a crazy discount (educational discount, employee discount, etc.) and not pay full retail, but I will pay for it... ;-)

As far as console pir...

Dude, XBox Media Center alone was worth chipping an original XBox. It has features that I really wish the PS3 would incorporate (like ShoutCast Internet radio, those SWEEEET visualizations it had, etc.)

I have several buddies that still have their modded XBox 1's just for XBMC.

Now why Microsoft didn't incorporate something like XBMC into the 360, I'll never know...

Honestly, I hope the PSP 3000 stays un-hackable. Piracy on the PSP has gotten out of hand to the point where it was driving developers away from the platform.

It's nice to see a competitor in the handheld marketplace that can actually survive against the Nintendo handhelds. Nintendo has been able to crush every other competitor out of business pretty quickly, even though the competition was superior (Sega GameGear & Nomad, Atari Lynx, NEC TurboExpress, SNK NeoGeo Pocket, Wo...

And the reason why so many developers were returning their PSP devkits...

While I must admit that I do have a custom firmware running on my PSP, the only reason I do so is because of being able to image the games I have, and run them off of the memory stick for HUGE reductions on loading times.

Now that Sony is integrating the PSN store into the PSP, and offering games as downloads, that kinda negates my reason for running a custom firmware.

Hopefully th...

"it's about how much money you made in PROFIT."

And do you honestly think that Microsoft is making ANY profit off of the consoles (other than the Elite) at the current prices?

I'm willing to go as far as to wager that M$ is LOSING money on the current Arcade 360 pricing. And they may be making a little money off of the 60GB Pro consoles at current prices.

Now factor in that back in January, Engaget was saying that the production costs of the ...

DJ, I think you hit the nail right on the head. Keep messaging the way it is, but allow users to attach a short voice (or video) clip.

I can understand why they would be squeamish about video (I can think of SOOOOOOOOO many pranks that could be pulled if this was allowed), but with voice, it would solve the cross-game voice chat issue.

Here's to hoping Sony starts bundling the official PS3 headset with all new consoles. =)

This update is SWEET... But there are still a few things I would like to see:

1. Cross-game chat. It shouldn't be that hard to implement. It's just a glorified voicemail system. Sony could use their partnership with Skype to do this... But sending a voice message is a LOT more convenient than typing out a text message (especially if you don't have a keyboard connected to your PS3).

2. XMB access while playing a Blu-Ray or DVD movie. Granted, you can jump righ...

After reading up on DivX VOD, this feature needs a little explination...

It seems like this is just a way for content providers to use DivX as a distribution channel. Looks like this is just a DRM'ed version of DivX (although rather fair about the content limitations).

Also, with the registration code required for the PS3 to use this functionality, it seems like the PS3 will be treated like a DivX certified DVD player.

I'll have to go and update my PS3 ...
