Indeed. Microsoft has done a great job throwing money at third parties to make PS3 exclusives go multiplat. On the other hand, their 1st-party and 2nd-party developers are dropping like flies. The developer for the upcoming Halo Wars (and the Age of Empires series) was closed down by Microsoft.
So, who do you put your faith in? A company that perpetuates faulty hardware and bribes developers, or a company that invests millions of dollars in 1st-party development?
"Its a shame about the Apple ads- they should focus on their own strengths, not Microsoft's problems- everyone knows them already."
If the Xbox 360 is any indication, Microsoft's customers will buy whatever Microsoft tells them to buy despite obvious flaws. I think Apple made the right choice by pointing out Window's (and Microsoft's) glaring issues.
Fable 2's co-op is shameful, so I cannot realistically give this game a mention for GotY.
Oh my! It's at 89%??!?!?! FAIL!
That's sarcasm, by the way. I enjoyed Fable 2, but I think some of the game's problems got a free pass. The combat -- to be perfectly blunt -- is incredibly boring and simplistic. On top of that, the co-op mode (the feature I was MOST excited about) was entirely misrepresented. Not that it's the first time Molyneux (sp?) overhyped his own game, but you can't even play with your own character. You simply play a "henchman" that happens to h...
Face it. Xbox Live is a bad community. No amount of corporate censorship or ineffective "reporting" system is going to solve that. That's what you get when virtually every one of your top-selling games are online fragfest bloodbaths that cater to the 9-21 male demographic.
Hmmm. Let's see. I never saw a Mario Kart commercial, and look how that's selling. I never saw a commercial for Guitar Hero 1 or 2, and yet look how huge that franchise is. I never saw a commercial for Spore, and yet despite the DRM controversy it's still selling like hotcakes.
In other words, TV commercials aren't the only way to promote a game.
It's heartbreaking when I realize that you represent the intellectual elite among the 360 fanbase.
Mattrick is pathetic. Let me all remind you that he is the former head of EA who ran it into the ground. Yes, the EA that many of you consider "evil"? That's Mattrick's EA (ironically, with him out of the picture they are improving).
And although the "research" in this article is lacking, I'll provide you kids with some actual facts:
- 4D Boxing came out in 1991. Yes, it used Avatars, but I'm failing to see how it used avatars like the Wii does. A...
People diss on Home (personally, I could care less about it), then they turn around and worship a Mii/iTunes imitation. I don't get it.
There's one big difference, Gaminoz: XBL is an entire service. SOCOM is just one game (that is getting massive patches within the first week, mind you).
This isn't a good idea for Microsoft. Censoring the 12-year-olds and drunken racists? That would eliminate....like...80% of the 360's installed base.
Yes, I went there. I went there.
I guess you're struggling to read, GiantEnemyCrab. I said that Microsoft's PR has poisoned gaming media. Better luck next time.
Oh my. This is rich. Microsoft certainly loves their percentages. They love their attach rates, "total lifetime sales", and bull like that. It's very interesting because for EVERY SINGLE GENERATION before this one, the only thing that really mattered was the installed base. That's it. No one cared about attach rates or "total lifetime sales".
Yet, the media has so willingly swallowed Microsoft's PR nonsense. In reality, the 360 still has the worst sales in Ja...
I would rather have Microsoft implement a better reporting system and to enforce harsher punishments for racial slurs, excessive cursing, etc. In my experience of owning 2 360's (both of them broke), I can safely say that at least 50% of mic owners deserve to be banned permanently, and at least 75% deserve to have SOME sort of temporary ban. I mean, the amount of insults is just terrible, not to mention that players will insult you, team kill, harass you, etc just because your gamer score is ...
Greeeeat. So now, I'll be called a "fizucking azisshole" all the time PLUS being under the thumb of Microsoft's censorship.
Yes. Because Qore is required to play games online.
I believe that the so-called "PSN Nickel-and-Dime strategy" is nothing compared to the "XBL quarter-and-dollar strategy".
Guess what? I didn't spend a penny on Qore this month. You know why? Because there wasn't anything of interest to me, so I saved my money. I had a choice. But wait! I thought Microsoft was the one that doesn't want to "make our customers pay for things they don't want"...
Actually, FantasyStar, numbers show that the Arcade unit isn't doing so hot (relatively speaking) even after the price drop. I worked in a retail store for over a year this past year and the most common question I received was "What's the difference?" as the customer pointed to the three different 360 SKUs. If retailers displayed ONLY the Arcade, yeah, I'm sure it would sell, but even the "stupid" customers see the other boxes and wonder why there are more expensive versio...
FantasyStar, you may want to check your numbers again for the rest of the year. Several months this year the PS3 has outsold the 360. Sorry if you thought I implied "every single month".
I'm still puzzled by this whole "360 lead over the PS3 in Japan" nonsense.
It's just silly. The PS3 stomps the 360 all year long and yet somehow the 360 outselling the PS3 for one month (with two very high-profile JRPGs coming out in that month) is so amazing? People act like Sony has instantly failed. I guess with the 360 on the verge of collapse (developers dropping like flies, hardware STILL failing, sales failing, XBLA support failing, talks of a new console in 2010...
It's very hard for me to trust a reviewer these days, especially when reviewers are also gamers, and many gamers have a preference for certain systems, certain franchises, and certain genres. I remember seeing a Dead Space video review and for most of the "bad" things the reviewer said about the game I thought to myself "Gee. Have you ever PLAYED a survival horror game before?"
