Oh wow. 1up fails hard. Their love affair with the 360 is getting a bit too obvious.

They give Fable II an "A" despite glitches and dismal co-op. What's their reason? "There's plenty of content to enjoy".

They give Gears II an "A+" despite glitches and a terrible storyline. What's their reason? "Oh...uh...the storyline isn't meant to be taken seriously...uh...and there's plenty of content to enjoy."

Now they give ...

Like the above poster said, Microsoft lacks innovation (no big surprise there if you're older than 15 and you've worked with Windows OS while growing up). They treat the video game industry like any other business venture: buy, copy, drop prices, and monopolize. That's why -- as a true gamer -- I don't support them. A video game industry dominated by Microsoft would be a dark day indeed. Now, I have nothing against the 360 itself. The 360 is a great system. But the company BEHIND the 360 -- M...

How does this game get such good scores with "framerate and texture problems"? Several reviewers have complained about these issues.

I believe that Resistance 2 (since we're all comparing these two games anyway) was marked down for those problems whereas Gears 2 gets a free pass? Hmmmm.

Perfect scores? Where? All I'm seeing are 9/10s and 9.5/10s?

Those are great scores, but if you're going to be a fanboy and say that Gears 2 is "crushing Resistance 2" with perfect scores you might want to produce...you know...some perfect scores.

Unreal Engine is next-gen?

If by next-gen you're referring to:

- short draw distances
- limited level size
- texture pop-in
- limited object geometry
- framerate problems

Yeah, I certainly HOPE Unreal Engine isn't the standard for next-gen. It's simply a popular engine that's incredibly easy to program for. It's also pretty cheap (relatively speaking) for developers to buy the license for. However, lots of the games end up looking th...

PS3 definitely has some big games (and by "big" I mean "full of content"). MGS4, LBP, and now Resistance 2 are all huge games that take advantage of the Blu Ray's extra capacity. I expect to see more and more big games like these coming out exclusively to the PS3 as time goes on.

For those that didn't read the article:

Estimated retail price is $1500.

Yeah....

Go PS3, my friends. Go PS3.

On a side note, is the PS3 (or other Blu Ray players) region-free for Blu Ray movies? I know that PS3 games are region-free, but I wasn't sure about the movies. The article mentioned that this new player can play NTSC and PAL region disks without problems, but I thought most Blu Ray players could already do that.

Bias or preferences aside, I would have to doff my cap to the amount of content in Sony's exclusives this holiday season. Little Big Planet, Valkyria Chronicles, Resistance 2....find a single 360 exclusive that can match the content and replayability found in those games. You can't.

It seems that Blu Ray is starting to show its true value when it comes to the size of games.

Great review. I'm still puzzled, though, about the lack of comment about the bland storyline or the (supposed) glitches. Several reviewers have said that the storyline was lame, and yet they gave the game a free pass. Take ANY other game and you're sure to see a game get bashed if the storyline isn't up to par. I think 1up even went so far as to say "Uh...the storyline OBVIOUSLY isn't meant to be taken seriously. Uh...so we're not going to mark it down for that." Really? REALLY?

An article on N4G that ISN'T anti-BluRay? Oh my!

Regardless of what this guy says, one quick glance at sales numbers and adoption rates makes even the most die-hard anti-BluRay fanboys crap their pants.

The 360 has a lead over the PS3 in Japan? Since when? Last I checked, the 360 hadn't hit a million yet (even with a year lead) whereas the PS3 was over 2.5 million.

OH!!!!

We're talking about month-to-month sales, right? But I thought those didn't MATTER! After all, the PS3 has been outselling the 360 in month-to-month sales for most of 2008...

But of course, that doesn't count.

Journalistic hypocrisy at its finest, my friends.

I just wanted to say "thanks" for that post. I never knew about the difference between red lasers vs. blue lasers in a media format. Bubbles.

@ EnemyCrab

Who ever said I was pretending? ;)

I know I'm a PS3 fanboy. I fully support the PS3.

If you feel those games deserve their high scores, I would implore you to go out and play some more games.

But then again, I wonder if your video game experience is limited to the Xbox brand...

Yeah, it's easy to bash a game 8 several months after its release...

Grow a pair, Mr. Blog Writer. Your personal opinion is simply that: an opinion. In my opinion, MGS4 is the best MGS game in the series. It exemplifies everything that makes MGS so great, and it ends the series in a way that will never be forgotten.

But that would make it so fanboys can't praise their console exclusive game for getting a 10/10 when it launches, nor can they mock a game for getting an 8/10 when it launches, and we CAN'T go without THAT!

The question isn't "SHOULD hype affect scores?".

The question is "DOES hype affect scores?"

With games like Halo 3, GTA4, Fallout 3, and Fable II receiving scores above 9/10, the answer is clear:

YES, hype affects scores (unfortunately).

In the article the author wrote:

"In 2006, a hacker known as "Muslix64" defeated Blu-ray's encryption. Since that time, Sony's system has been faced with continual security breaches and tremendous losses due to piracy."

Oh really? "Tremendous losses due to piracy"? Since when? Enlighten us, please. If Sony's losses are "tremendous", I'd like to see what he thinks of the rampant 360 DVD9 piracy...

Who is DreamStream? Forgive my ignorance if they're a really big company, but I've honestly never heard of them. I don't see how they can go toe-to-toe with Sony's Blu Ray.

And I find all of this funny.

This is what the haters have said:

2006 "HD-DVD will kill Blu Ray! Blu Ray's extra capacity doesn't matter."

2007 "Bah, who needs Blu Ray? Digital Downloads are the future! The extra capacity of Blu Ray doesn't matter."

I'm curious to see how this will work or if it will affect the stability of the games. After all, NO 360 games are designed to use the hard drive for streaming of data. Basically, this NXE feature is forcing the 360 game to behave in a way that it doesn't normally behave.

If it works, huzzah! But I'm still not sure it's going to be all that some people are cracking it up to be.

@ Crab and Lawman

Yeah, the 360 gets a free pass. Why do I claim this? Because this Firmware 2.5 issue is being patched, fixed, and forgotten. However, RRoD, disk-scratching, freezing, and "one light of death" problems are still prevalent and WAY over the acceptable standard. The 360 problems have been going on for years, and true gamers shouldn't have to tolerate it. That's why I dropped the 360 (after the second hardware failure) and bought a PS3. I've never looked ba...
