Blu Ray will certainly help the PS3, especially since Sony is sticking to the 10-year cycle for the PS3. Even for non-gamers, the PS3 has become synonymous with Blu Ray, so a lot of Blu Ray adopters are going to be looking to the PS3 as their player of choice.

PS3 is in its second year and people are already spelling disaster for it. I think some people are just too eager for Sony to fail. The sales on the system are continuing to pick up, and with Blu Ray rapidly becoming the standard, sales are going to improve.

Unfortunately, the game industry is plagued with impatient "let's base all of our predictions on the last 6 months of sales" journalists. That's why we saw so many "the Nintendo Revolution/Wii is going to fail&...

So let me get this straight, BlackRaven. You don't consider glitches that force you to restart the game to be "extreme"? Because there are several of those glitches that have been reported.

@ Keele

If these massive glitches were simply "missed", I'm worried about the quality of the other aspects of the game.

However, in most cases developers know when a game is glitchy. They have to keep to deadlines, though, so they launch it anyway. Heck, the 360 hardware itself falls into this category.

Lost Planet. Bioshock. Eternal Sonata. And now Tales of Vesperia is rumored to come out on the PS3 in 2009.

I'm surprised people still mock the PS3 for always "losing exclusives" when the same is happening to the 360 as we speak.

@ PirateThom

Yeah, I didn't want to imply that there was NO difference between DVD and Blu Ray, but at the beginning there were some movies where the difference wasn't very noticable.

But nowadays, even the Blu Ray haters can't deny the large leap of quality over DVD that Blu Ray has. Just like you said, many Blu Ray movies look even better than the movie theater!

Wait. Think about what you're saying. This article is about an economic downturn. EVERYone is going to feel this, including developers. As people have said for a while "3rd-party exclusives are a thing of the past". So, if that's the case, where do exclusives come from?

1st and 2nd parties. Who has more 1st and 2nd parties? Sony. Microsoft actually has a LOWER ratio of exclusives than they used to. Their ratio (since Microsoft loves ratios so much) has dropped every ye...

Unless you have stock in Sony and Microsoft (some fanboys certainly ACT like they do), why should we care about a profit drop? This happens all the time. Microsoft recently lowered their estimates of profit in 2009. O NOEZ! 360 WILL FAIL!!

Sony has led the console market with nearly 250 million consoles sold (add in another 40 million units if you count the PSP). Are fanboys so dumb that they would willfully ignore that fact? I guess we could have all been saying the same thing a...

Saying that "every game has glitches" is an excuse. It is a lame excuse. Was CoD4 riddled with glitches? Nope. Was Bioshock riddled with glitches? Nope. What about Viva Pinata:TiP or MGS4? Nope. What about Uncharted and Burnout: Paradise? Nope.

Plenty of ambitious, AAA games have been glitch-free. There is NO excuse. If you want to tolerate a glitchy game, then you have low standards. Don't act like everyone else should tolerate a glitchy game. Some...

This is good news for Blu Ray, PS3 owners, and movie lovers. I would have been disappointed if "digital downloads" took over like Microsoft keeps saying over and over again (ironically, PSN has more downloads than XBLA, especially when it comes to movies and full-length games). Blu Ray disks aren't perfect, but neither was DVD. We're starting to REALLY see the advantages of Blu Ray in movies like Hulk and Iron Man. Saying that "there's not much difference between upscaled DVD a...

So true. Bubbles for that. People rip apart Sony games for showing any glitches, yet the 360 gets a free pass when it comes to glitches, framerate drops, texture pop-in, and long load times. I have to wonder what's going on when AAA 360 titles (Gears1 and 2, Fable 2, Mass Effect) are suffering from so many glitches when the AAA titles on the so-called "NoGoodGamestation 3" are bug-free, glitch-free, and run at a smooth framerate. Compare Uncharted to Gears and you'll know what I'm t...

I don't disagree with the article. I think we should always look at ways that certain things can improve.

However, these types of articles always feel a bit one-sided. I rarely see a "3 ways Xbox Live could improve" or "The Top 5 things we want in the new NXE update". Maybe I'm ignorant or maybe I conveniently miss those articles every time they are posted, but from my perspective it seems a bit one-sided. Why does PSN get the rack while XBox Live (which is ce...

@ NaiNaiNai

What does "AAA" even matter? Halo 3 was AAA yet it was a massive disappointment for many long-time Halo fans (myself included; that marked the turning point for my 360 devotion). Super Mario Galaxy was AAA and yet so many people wrote it off as "kiddy". FF7: Crisis Core was NOT AAA yet people gobbled it up.

My point is that an arbitrary label such as "AAA" is something that only fanboys care about. Resistance, Uncharted, and ...

Why is it that Resistance 2 beta (with 60 players online and 8-player co-op) is more stable and more glitch-free than the vast majority of 360 retail games? I just don't understand. If Live is so superior and 360 games are so much better, why can't they beat a simple beta on the "Failstation"?

SOCOM is only one game (that is being patched). Gears of War is one of the most popular online 360 games and yet many of the multiplayer glitches and exploits still exist years af...

I hope it survives. Live has gone through a lot of stability issues, not only due to the Halo 3 launch but also due to CoD4 (which is a more popular online game than Halo 3, even on the 360). Live has had many well-documented crashes and slowdowns over the past year. It makes me wonder why people pay $50 a year for it when PSN is free and a much more stable online service. You would be hard-pressed to finish MGS4 in 6 hours. Did you even play the game? Even if you skip every single cutscene, it is difficult to finish the game in under 7 or 8 hours. In fact, there are rewards for finishing the game under 6 hours, 5 1/2 hours, 5 hours, and 4 1/2 hours. These are meant to be difficult accomplishments. My first playthrough was 32 hours. Cutting the 6 1/2 hours of cutscenes out, that's still a solid length of time. I just finished my sixth playthrough and my "a...

I'll wait for "real" reviews of the game, but even with those reviews I imagine journalists will give the game a free pass much like they give many of the 360's exclusives a free pass.

To me, Gears of War is a joke. It takes the worst aspects of the Halo franchise (generic aliens, archetypal characters, generic storyline, "macho" attitude) and magnifies it by 1,000. When I play the game, I can't help but grimace at the multitude of lame one-liners that wouldn'...
