Good score. Despite the shortage of content and hum-ho graphics, I hope that gamers will look beyond the game for a top-notch co-op experience.
This plus Resistance 2 plus a few matches of Guilty Gear has me and my buddies completely occupied when we hang out.
I love the art style of this game and all of the tiny details.
Yes, nice textures are nice. I won't argue with that. However, the overall look of a game can be greatly accented by lens blur, smoke effects, enhanced particle effects, smooth animations, dynamic lighting, etc., and Killzone 2 has all of these things in spades. I mean, we can sit down and compare screenshots for hours, but at the end of the day when you crank up that KZ2 beta, there is absolutely nothing on the marke...
It seems that video game lawsuits are on the rise this generation. Can't say I'm surprised.
And $18 million isn't that much. Seriously. I don't see how this will "ruin" Sony (as I'm sure some posters will claim) yet the $1 billion write-off for the RRoD from Microsoft is no big deal.
So let me get this straight, Microsoft...
You consider HOME to be a fail, and yet somehow you consider social networking to be the future, even though you have yet to take action on this.

@ darkride
Thanks for the info. I didn't know Canada's warranty stuff. All I know is that 360 owners get a 3-year warranty on the RRoD and that's about it (beyond the standard 90-day warranty).
OH NOEZ! A LOW REVIEW! SUPPRESS IT! SUPPRESS IT!
In all seriousness, though, the game is good, but it doesn't deserve 9+ scores. It is a short game that is boring unless you're playing co-op, and I do believe that plenty of games (like Warhawk, Frontlines, and SOCOM) have been hammered for only being fun if you're playing it online.
I don't know if that was a sarcastic slam against biased media journalists (which would be apt) or a serious comment (which would be hilarious).
Oh boy. So, when National Geographic opens a gaming division (which I couldn't care less about) that favors the PS3 over the 360, suddenly they're showing their fanboyism.
Yet, when Square-Enix (a proven gaming company that a lot of gamers love) shows an obvious bias toward the 360, people say that they're just "making smart business decisions" and "going with the bettar console lolollol!"
I love how these glaring issues were passed over for all of the reviews out there. The same goes for LBP, though at least LBP's issues are all but fixed.
The funny thing is that SOCOM was completely hammered for connection and server issues, yet Gears 2 gets a free pass.
Anyone who puts faith the video game journalists is a tool.
You are very incorrect. Microsoft didn't do this out of the goodness of their hearts, nor did they do it to show their dedication to the 360.
They did it because they were afraid of a recall. Since the beginning of RRoD, Microsoft had said "the problems are well within industry standards", which is an obvious lie. They've also said the same statement about the disc-scratching, One Ring of Death, and other common problems. The only reason why they enacted the 3-year warr...
"the sad trolls...that haven't played the game"
I see people use this excuse so much, and it's pathetic. Instead of addressing people's legitimate complaints like the bad graphics or the short campaign, you say "LOL! U MUST NOT HAVE PLAYED TEH GAEM!" What a weak argument.
@ solar
So instead of making a thoughtful response, you post a video?
You don't aspire much, do you?
This game got a free pass. Take the exact same game, replace the word "Valve" on the cover with "Ubisoft", "EA", or "Activision" and it would have scored an 8/10 tops.
This game has a short campaign. Many other games are scored lower. What's the reviewer's excuse? "Uh...it's highly replayable".
The game has sub-par graphics. Many games score lower for this. What's the reviewer's excuse? "Uh...it has solid art dir...
This game is made by Valve, therefore a free pass was expected. No one wants to come across as a Valve hater. Gaming journalists have been crooked for years and only the most blinded of fanboys don't see it.
The funny thing is that IGN gave Mirror's Edge (which is graphically superior to L4D in every way, shape, and form) an 8/10 for graphics, and they didn't even allow for an artificial "art direction" boost, even though Mirror's Edge's art style is miles ahead of L4D ...
Yeah I listened to the show. It was good.
You haven't noticed any pop-in? Really? I notice it all the time. It's especially easy to notice in L4D because there aren't a lot of movable objects (like random boxes) in the levels. So, the few objects that you do see really stand out, especially when they...you know...POP IN. The zombies don't pop-in, which is nice. The environments don't have a lot of draw distance, so I don't know why you'd compare R2 (which has a lot of size and draw distance in the levels) to L4D.

What game SHOULD win game of the year and what game WILL win game of the year are typically two different things, unfortunately.
SHOULD win:
- LBP
- Fallout 3
- MGS4
- Left 4 Dead
- Dead Space (at least it should be nominated)
WILL win:
- GTA4
- Gears 2 (I guarantee Spike TV will pick this as their GotY)
- MGS4
- Fallout 3
You are ignorant. Go play the demo again. At the VERY beginning of the demo, stand in front of the door that leads downstairs. Walk two steps to the right. Walk forward. POP! Look! That chimney just magically appeared! This is but one example of how boxes, garbage bags, and miscellaneous objects will randomly appear in the game.
If you like the game, that's super duper, but don't be ignorant. The game runs on an outdated engine and even the IGN reviewer pointed that out.
Piracy may hurt the console down the line since the 360 relies so heavily on 3rd parties to survive. If a 3rd party developer gets fed up and cuts support for the 360, what alternative does Microsoft have? None. However, I don't see this becoming a huge issue. Microsoft still has the hardware problems of the 360 breathing down their neck.
I am very wary of DLC, especially when it launches so close to the actual game release.
With that said, does anyone still play this franchise? I'm not flaming, I'm just asking. I thought Tomb Raider was in the same boat as Sonic the Hedgehog and Crash Bandicoot as far as "worn-out video game characters" go...
