25 million SOLD by the end of the year? Methinks no. Just because Microsoft is cramming retailers full of 360 units (which they have done in the past) up to the 25 mil mark doesn't mean that they have actually SOLD 25 million. Most estimates put the 360 at about 22.5 or 23 million. Do you honestly think the 360 will sell 2 million units in half a month?
Half-Life 3 will be the 360's answer to Killzone 2? Uhhh....we're still waiting on Episode 3, let alone HL3. And of course, it can only be the 360's answer to KZ2 if it happens to be an exclusive, which is very unlikely.
So now we're reviewing betas. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see websites beginning to review demos and betas, throwing in their own biased quips into the mix.
It's so sad. A beta is DESIGNED to show off an unfinished product in order to improve the final version. Are you journalists insane?
I agree with you. I'm at the end of Valkyria Chronicles and I want to finish the game, but I keep thinking to myself "Hmmm. Headshot some Empire soldiers, or blow up some people in the K2 beta?" And this is from a BETA that is barely 1/2 a gigabite.
The WORST fanboys (in my opinion) are the "analyst fanboys". They can support any system or format, because these types of fanboys are everywhere. They're not you're typical fanboy that simply says "Gears 2 will pwn Resistance 2" and leave it at that. No. They go much further.
They scrape up obscure blogspot posts or tech.yahoo editorials from 18 months ago to PROVE that Gears 2 will pwn Resistance 2 (or vice versa). They talk about "adoption curve"...
@ Keele
Exactly. Just like Sony abandoned the PS2 right when the 360 came out. Oh wait.
Maybe it was just like Sony abandoned the PS2 right when the PS3 came out. Oh wait.
You can cross your fingers and pray to Bill Gates all you want, but Sony has proved time and time again that they will support their hardware with AAA titles much longer than the competition.
@ miniduf
I don't. If I wanted to do that, I would invest in my PC (which I do, because I'm also a big PC gamer). Consoles shouldn't be like PCs. You shouldn't have to upgrade every 5 years. The PS1 and PS2 (and soon the PS3) proved that. They also proved that you can have groundbreaking, AAA titles in those years after the 5-year mark. God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, and Rogue Galaxy ring a bell (not to mention every EA Sports and 2K Sport game).
History shows t...
Are these the PC numbers, or are they for the Wii, too? I loved the game on the Wii and I would be sad to see if it was pirated.
No surprise there. Yet Xbox fanboys will defend Microsoft all the same.
@ IdleLee
You're all for shorter console life spans? I'm the exact opposite. I used to be an Xbox owner (and a Nintendo/SEGA fan before that) but I was disappointed that the Xbox was dropped after only 4 years, especially since I bought one in Year 3. I am now a Sony supporter because I bought a PS2 and it is STILL being supported by new games. I also bought a PS3 because Sony plans to support it for 10+ years. I can't understand why people would actually want to buy a new system...
How can NXE beat Home when NXE is nothing but a menu upgrade, whereas Home is a social networking program that is separate from the XMB?
If the XMB gets a major visual overhaul, you can start comparing the two, but until then perhaps you should go find some silly "Resistance 2 vs Gears 2" and continue to compare two disparate things like all the other fanboys on this site.
NXE is nice and shiny, but mostly pointless. I will say that it's much easier to navigate the menus than the Blade system. It's a lot more like the iPod menu or the XMB.
With that said, I am puzzled by 360 fanboys who claim this will "kill Home once and for all". I thought that Home was "teh fail". Why would it need killing? And how would a menu upgrade kill a social networking program?
I like the destruction, but I like the smoke and particle effects even more. There really aren't any games that use smoke as a tactical advantage, unless you're talking about smoke grenades, and those are underused and not often included in FPS games.
But in Killzone 2, smoke gets thrown up by environmental destruction, so there are many times when your vision is obscured by a lot of dust and debris. Yes, the graphics are absolutely stunning, but things like this are what impress...
In other words, they are going to milk milk milk milk it to death and kill any potential greatness that the franchise had.
Most people expected another Xbox. The REAL question is when will it hit?
Methinks 2010 or early 2011.
@ NipGrip
The same logic applies to the PS3, it seems. When it came out, people thought that unless the PS3 completely outsold the 360 in 5 days, the PS3 was automatically fail. They continue to think this way. If a PS3 exclusive doesn't sell as much as Halo 3, it is fail. If the PS3 doesn't outsell the 360 in a single month of the year in Japan, it is fail (of course, if the 360 doesn't outsell the PS3 several months of the year worldwide, no one pays attention). If a PS3 exclus...
Something I find funny: many anti-PS3 people will point to the adoption curve of the PS3 and say "See?!?! The PS3 isn't selling as well as the PS2 within the same lifespan. Therefore, it is the failurez!" In that case, adoption curve is so very important. Yet, when we bring up the issue of Blu Ray and how Blu Ray's adoption curve (both for hardware and discs) is FAR higher than DVD in the same time frame, suddenly adoption curve doesn't mean a thing. I guess I'm not surprised. 360 s...
@ Kigmal
Did I say it happens every day? Nope. I simple laughed at the fact that people willingly pay money for a service that has as many issues as Xbox Live. I guess I'm not surprised, because these same people willingly pay for a system that has as many hardware issues as the 360. Go figure.
There's a fine line. I have a PS3 and I love it. Many of the "issues" that people whine about don't bother me. Am I a fanboy, or are the issues not as big as people make them? Who knows?
However, the WORST kind of fanboys are the analyst fanboys. Despite the fact that they have had little or no formal education in the field of business or economics, they feel like they can make an educated comment on how "X" console will defeat "Y" console just becau...
RARE is officially dead to me, and Free Radical is on the rocks after creating a very crappy FPS (Haze).
Yes, I loved the old Goldeneye, Time Splitters, and Banjo games from these developers, but their ability to create good games has all but disappeared. Just because they were good in the PAST doesn't mean we have to enjoy the crap they shovel out NOW. Don't let nostalgia cloud your mind. Be a gamer, not a blind fanboy.
