I think DJ is referring to a report a few months ago where EA, Ubisoft, Activision, and a few other 3rd-party publishers stated that they made more overall profit on the PS3, even when 360 games sold more. They clarified by mentioning that the profit margin on each game sold is much better on the PS3, so even when a game sells less it still profits them more than the 360 version.
You kids are looking at this the wrong way. It's not just about piracy. It's about the image that it gives the console. If you think Capcom, Ubisoft, EA, etc look at the piracy on the 360 and don't care, you've got another thing coming. Rampant piracy on a console can turn away developers. It has happened time and time again on the PC. You think that a console is immune?
I hope they do more than just Halo. Sony and Nintendo are just as guilty as Microsoft for whoring out franchises, but at least they have OTHER franchises they focus on.
Aside from the 3D graphics, how was it a milestone for JRPGs, let alone RPGs? FF6 had a deeper storyline and more likable characters (unless you were 8 years old and you actually sympathized with Cloud Strife). XenoGears did a much better storyline, though it was only released a few short months after FF7. I won't even go into all of the awesome RPGs that were hitting PC at the time.
FF7 didn't suck. However, (contrary to the belief of FF7 fanboys), it just isn't the Second Coming of Jesus H Christ. It's a decent game that is fairly bland if you go back and play it now (and make sure you take off your nostalgia goggles).
If anything, I think that FF8 or Vagrant Story deserve more attention if we're gonna look back at Squaresoft games on the PS1.
I'm sorry, but Lionhead? They made a pretty bad game called "Fable II". Aside from the huge amount of glitches, old-hat missions, and pathetic ending, I hope I'm not the only one who felt sh*t on by the joke of a co-op mode.
Lots of those are obvious picks: Kojima Productions and Bioware have earned their place at the head of the gaming world.
Intelligent Systems was an interesting pick. They are a fantastic developer. I'd also throw Camelot onto that pile....
It looks great and I really enjoyed the demo. This plus Empire Total War plus Dawn of War II plus the Sins of a Solar Empire expansion makes these past two months so good for strategy fans.

Hmmm.
@ TheTwelve
So true.
Amazing graphics. Amazing physics. Amazing ragdoll animations. Amazing enemy AI. Amazing multiplayer. Amazing review scores. Amazing sales.
What else can haters say?
"Bu bu bu but teh first Killzone was suck!"
@ xjx
Sales numbers, the last bastion of hope for fanboys. Have fun playing your "sales" while the rest of us play games.
Two huge games in February (KZ2 and SF4) plus several "small" games such as F.E.A.R 2, Star Ocean 4, Flower, The Maw, Noby Noby Boy, and PQ: Galactrix.
Somehow I doubt that Halo Wars and RE5 can top that, especially since RE5 was a major letdown based on the demo (not flaming. That's just my opinion).
Blah blah blah. Hype kills games. Hype kills games.
*Yawn*
We get it. Nicely written article, but I have this nagging little voice in the back of my mind screaming "Where were these articles when Halo 3 and Gears 2 were on the horizon?"
Okay, Lair was hyped. We get it. That game wasn't amazing. Can we move beyond 2007 and get with the program? Why is it that Sony is the only one in the video game market that gets chastised and scrutinized for ...
"Halo" already had plenty of worthy challengers (and many of them surpassed Halo): Half Life 2, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, Resistance, Crysis, and the list goes on. Halo peaked at "Halo: Combat Evolved". Everything that followed was good, but it failed to recapture the same magic that the first Halo gave us.
Best 360 game is Mass Effect, IMO.
So suddenly an opinion article (and a lousy one at that) is "news" on "News 4 Gamers.com"?
Huh. Interesting.
Of course they can. They have plenty of money.
However, let's not forget that BUYING exclusives is a very different thing than DEVELOPING exclusives.
More FUD from Microsoft. Surprise surprise.
Cnet + a Sony article = LOL.
I remember journalists bashing the PS2 for being "hard to program for" due to the Emotion Engine...
Last night all the gamers on the site went out and played Killzone 2.
In some ways, upcoming games that we have already seen such as Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, and God of War III surpassed the graphics in KZ2 (in SOME ways, mind you). And let's not forget that inevitable Team Ico game still being developed...
I don't think anyone would say that FF7 was BAD for its time. Of course it was good....for its time.
The problem is the seething mass of people who leave out the "for its time" and consider FF7 to be the best game of ALL time, which is just silly. You'd have to have fanboy nostalgia goggles made out of 3-inch thick glass to or you'd have to play no more than 3 RPGs in your whole life to truly believe that FF7 is the best out there.
