There are entirely too many articles and editorials with this theme. As a company in the lead, the media is painting a picture that MS is hungrily stalking Sony's coattails. The PR department behind MS doesn't help either, because they give the interviews supporting this mess and only serve to dignify this garbage.

The PS2 library was entirely too massive and oversatured with titles that had mass appeal. We're not quite there just yet, nor do I see us getting to that point until about Fall '09. Up to that point, I see this game getting a healthy amount of coverage once they're readly to unveil it, and it will surely be touted highly by Sony to strengthen the first party lineup in light of less 3rd party exclusives.

I think it would have served them, and us, better to have released the PS3 this fall as opposed to last year. In retrospect, the 360 was quite literally competing with the PS2. HW sales for the PS2 really were strong, and titles like FFXII, GoW 2, and Rogue Galaxy just continued to bolster what was already an all-star lineup for the ages. Hell, I was still enjoying Tales of the Abyss myself.

IMO, 2K has Live beat in player proportions, uniforms, and arenas.
Live is superior in skin textures, and it's got the right idea when it comes to lighting, but they overdid it with the darkness.

It was never that big to begin with, it's always fanboys that made a huge deal of it, or game sites that wanted hits.
Good game, but 2K needs to update their graphics engine. MLB and NHL did it, now it's basketballs turn. I'm sure it relates to the extra time needed for the PS3 version last year, so maybe next year will reflect more changes.
