Games are taking several years to make, several millions of dollars in costs, and then throw R&D time to get a grip on the console itself.
This isn't PC's ladies and gentlemen, I don't see why everyone is in such a hurry to usher in the next wave of consoles. Let developers get a grip on these machines. There's plenty left in all three that we have yet to see, let's just enjoy the ride.
Even if the claims about cost and media distraction aren't true, the fact of the matter is that it's a developers conference, meaning that 99% of what's being yammered in there, the average, and even above average, Joe won't comprehend it.
Thus, a substantial media presence DOES indeed cause a distraction, because it gives Sony and MS incentive to shoehorn thier big budget productions into keynotes and press releases. Sony did it last year, this time it was Micro's turn.

In this day and age, most good titles take well over a year, sometimes two or three, to complete.
According to the man responsible for the game, this title was 5% complete just two month ago. Now I'm hearing 50%. That's outrageous. No wonder they can't achieve what was depicted in the trailer, they're not even giving themselves a chance.
but he made Sagat look a bit like Herman Munster.
Games of today and tomorrow are increasingly becoming massive undertakings for studios. Some of the best and most highly anticipated titles are taking at least 2 years to develop, and in some cases well over 3. If we're talking 4 year life spans here, coupled with increasing development time and costs, then that doesn't exactly spell the most secure investment for publishers.
Say a team makes a game in two years, and then begins production on another. By the time it's all said ...
Why? It's arbitrary. Arbitrary because, unlike grading a written test, there is no standard with which for docking points in games. Combine that with the fact that everyone WILL have a different experience with different games, and it furthers my point that trusting scores is pretty much pointless. Notice I said scores, not reviews, I'll get to that later.
The press has put a combination of horse blinders and a big, ugly smoke screen over consumers. They've somehow given the pu...
I think Sony needs to bite the bullet and include the PSEye and a headset in addition to the controller for their next console.
I love stuff like this, but it's always a shame when devs don't bother to implement technology like this because it doesn't come packed in.
Heck, I think they should bundle a Sony headset and the PSEye with the PS3 maybe 2 years down the road, but that's just me.
and I personally think 90% of all games could benefit from it, but I do have concerns with this game.
If the gameplay mechanics themselves are broken, which in all honesty I expect them to be for their first shot, then no kind of fancy tech will save it.
This should be a redeeming quality though, and I'll check it out just to see what results.
where it's pre-ordered from? I was gonna go with Amazon, as I usually get the fastest delivery from them, but I'd like to know whether or not it's only through certain outlets.
why do so many people feel the need to claim "2007 is the year of this, 2008 is the year of that!"
That just reeks of insecurity to me, as if you all have to keep reminding yourselves of that, like you don't genuinely believe it or something.
Really, just play your games and enjoy them, who gives a sh*t about this versus crap. The media will perpetuate that crap throughout the duration of the year, believe me.
It gets to me because I'd bet a di...
but really, how much can you expect out of a portable action game?
Comes with the territory I suppose. You can't just toss a moniker like GoW onto a platform and not expect some high expectations.
I can get something of an idea from the second one, at least the textures are there. Looks good. Killzone 2's character faces look like sh*t right now, so I'll do a better comparison: MGS4.
Quite frankly, these look better than MGS4 character faces, and of course, that's just entertaining the idea that this stuff is legit.
We'll find out in due time, I suppose. In any case, I'm glad to know that this game didn't get the ax.
I see it with my own eyes. Then again, I think Heavy Rain looks better than Killzone, so who knows.
You know what though, I hope it's true.
but if it is, it sounds a lot like that Jason Statham movie Crank, which I thought was very cool.
Testers are a good resource of course, but there's nothing like your target audience. Only thing I'd say is to take everything with a grain of salt and actually see if things work.
It was the target audience that ruined Spider-Man 3 after all, begging and pleading for them to pigeonhole Venom into the plot.
but Warhawk was a half-hearted abortion of a game by comparison. I'm not the biggest Halo fan in the world, and in fact I've never owned the game, but I own Warhawk and I'll be the first one to say that it doesn't hold a candle to Halo.
It has nowhere near the depth, detail, features, or pretty much anything that Halo has. The only thing Warhawk has on other games is big maps. Name any feature or gameplay aspect it's got and I can probably give you a game that does it much much...
they should have something that is more representative of the Playstation brand. The current store, while functional...is a bit of a shame in light of other Sony products, which are sleek, intuitive and easy to use 99% of the time.
I think the XMB Store was a flawless concept for what it was though, and think that would work great, all I'm saying is that they could very well take another route and be effective.
get ripped apart at the seams.
I agree with the above, when IPs change hands it usually isn't a good thing. Taking someone else's baby and raising it doesn't work the same way as in the real world.
The vision is different, sometimes it gets lost, and we're talking different development paradigms and gameplay philosophies.
May I ask how on earth you could possibly know this?
Leave it to you to turn my post into some Sony vs. MS console war crap.
I was speaking on behalf of ALL THREE CURRENT SYSTEMS. Of course, you would be the one to fixate on Sony. Typical.
