I hated the game myself, easily my worst PC purchase in the last three years or so.
"Let me be absolutely clear here: this is a strategy game for strategy die-hards, the kinds of people that live for plowing through menus and painstakingly constructing an empire from the most modest of beginnings. It will bore to tears most of the jump cut-addled, MTV-watching, Ritalin-popping masses due to a sometimes excruciatingly slow pace."
Clarification is a lost art todays reviews, and at least making an effort to suggest who may like what type of games is inval...
I suppose they forgot the fiasco that was Tony Hawk...
They remind me of Midway now. Promising better Mortal Kombat games, we believe it and they turn out a trash product again and again.
I'll start listening when they start delivering.
So far, all they have is CoD4. Unless Infinity Ward gets cloned 10 times over, I'm not holding my breath for their other studios.
This isn't to say that 3rd parties are irrelevant, but this generation in particular, there's a very obvious difference between a multiplat and an exclusive.
I like that because it enables devs like Insomniac and Naughty Dog to finally get the recognition, and more importantly funding and resources that they need.
If you look at the PS2 era, even some of the better exclusives didn't look superior enogh to most multiplats for the average joe to bat an eye.
quote reviews, previews, impressions, and positive press from their darling little media outlets.
They'll turn on you at the drop of a hat in favor of where the money's headed. Let this whirlwind of bad press be a lesson to all of us.
I'm just laughing in the face of those who felt that the media(of all things) was on their side.
now I'm only waiting on confirmation for the kitchen sink, it sure is everywhere else.
bickering and bragging about a multiplatform game is pathetic?
Wow, this sounds like the bratty kid in the neighborhood gloating about having the better Batman toy.
Sorry, but I'm just calling it how I see it. This is irrelevant, they didn't need to go this route. Yes, you'll have more content on GTA4. Noted. Your version will probably sell more for a couple of a reasons. Noted.
No need to beat our favorite dead horse...arrogance.
There were some terms that Sony and Jaffe wouldn't agree on...which is precisely why he left in the first place. The developer relationship will still be there, but I wouldn't count on him going back to Sony unless they can reconcile.
If this game gets big enough, Sony and Media Molecule would be FOOLS to not update it and patch it with downloadable textures and materials.
My only hope is that they wouldn't nickel and dime people ala Motorstorm and Need for Speed. Give an abundance of content in the updates, especially if they were to cost money.
but I expect LBP to last much longer. Creativity and new things popping up everywhere will certainly fuel that. MGS4, once you beat it enough times, there won't be anything else to it. MGO maybe, but it seems that the full version is something different.
It's a crap shoot.
Good because it's easier to garner hype, anticipation, and coverage wit the NAME, but tough because it's difficult to live up to what made the classics what they were.
Needless to say, they can't release something simple like the old game in this day and age, so it's difficult to know what to expect.
To this day, Metal Gear has been the only one to pull it off gracefully. We don't know what SF4 has in store for us, either.
...
They see a score and automatically assume any of several things about the game, when another persons opinions will never match up with theirs.
That's why if you saw buy, rent, or avoid, you'd probably want to read the review to find out what it would mean for you.
No matter which way you cut it, numbers mean zilch, and someone else's subjective verdict, be it a word, letter, or number can't tell YOU what to buy. Reviews scores are opinions, but they've somehow fooled...
Jaffe has been pretty adamant about not creating high profile titles anymore. I wouldn't be surprised to see this be the Twisted Metal equivalent of WipEout HD.
That isn't a bad thing per se, but then it would be relegated to the PSN, and therefore not be exactly what we all may want or expect it to be.
I could be wrong though, maybe Jaffe meant epic, over the top front-runners like God of War, and the next TM may very well be a disc based, fully featured no hold bar...
Literally, the only difference between this and numbers are the fact that one is a digit and the other is text. Literally. A letter or a number has no MEANING. Why?
Ask 30 people what an 85 means to them. Guarantee you'll get 30 different answers.
Ask 30 people what a B means to them. Again, you'll get 30 different answers. It's no different.
On the other hand...ask 30 people what the word buy means...you'll get the same answer from every one, same with ...
This is essentially asking "Do mergers reduce competition?"
Of course they do, and it's happening way too much now. That's the nature of a billion dollar industry, I suppose...
Words like Buy, Rent, and dodge/pass/avoid have clear cut meanings. Granted, that means that more games will inherently fall into less categories, therefore casting doubt upon the reader, but that's the point.
Not enough people READ reviews anymore. Everyone takes reviews for granted as some pseudo-scientific method for rating games..they're not. A rating or score strictly reflects the opinion of the reviewer(or their agenda, either or).
The content within the review...
This is fundamentally the same as a numerical system. Just like in grade school, EVERYONE and their mom has their own interpretation of an A, B, or C.
There's folks who are happy with a C, and others who can't stand to get an A-. This will be no different. Elitist fanboys will still shun any game that's an A- or less, just wait and see. This is a strictly psychological difference.
Once again...rating games is not an exact science. Until the day reviewers quit being s...
You're drumming things down our throats that everyone knows and nobody cares about.
Cell isn't for personal computers, noted. It's not meant to replace traditional CPU's, noted.
What are you trying to prove? Who cares, you're the one person in this thread ranting about nothing, get off of it.
multi-cores will be left in the dust once IBM gets their light processors off the ground.
I, among many others have known this for at least 4 months now.
Do people not know how to use google anymore? So, are those of you who like to beg people for links saying that you'll remain WILLFULLY ignorant to something instead of using the easiest resource at your disposal?
Here's what I found with a SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH
