what with the perfect storm and all?
I'm not hating...and in fact I'm directing this towards all marketing and PR talk from all angles...DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE. That goes for Sony and Nintendo as well, but I'm pointing this out in particular because of all of the braggadocio from last year. Again, I thought 2007 was the landmark year...but that's the job of a PR rep, to say anything to make a case for your product. Can't really hate the man for that, but at least be a bit more cr...
The difference is negligible at best, especially at this stage in the game.
Not necessarily to play devil's advocate, but I'm not impressed by EA numbers. The only compelling title they've sealed the deal on for the PS3 thus far has been SKATE, IMO. Selling millions of turds doesn't impress me, just tells me that there's a lot of dumb sheep out there.
This is now my most anticipated game for the year. Absolutely LOVED Abyss.
These games can hang with the biggest guns out there in my opinion, and do things so much better than some of the most revered(although I don't care about public/critical opinion) titles and franchises out there.
I hope they mean for the rest of the year...because 10 million period sounds modest at best. Resistance, Little Big Planet and Metal Gear will see to that, and with Killzone and GT5 looming over the horizon, I expect it to be a holly, jolly, Playstation Christmas for a lot of folks this year.
The only legitimate reason that any average Joe should be concerned with is number 4...the rest of those would likely apply to nitpickers, which isn't a bad thing, but they shouldn't try to play this off as if this is stuff that is universally legitimate or relevant.
that there are some folks out there that aren't zombies.
It amazes me that even some of the most level headed and reasonable folks on this site believe in the idea of "trusted sites" as if they grew up with the staff or something.
That's the type of mentality that may eventually develop and allow you to take their word about matters that you otherwise wouldn't.
Don't be so quick to trust a media outlet. If games were more lowkey, and more importantly, if the industry had no ties and ZERO stake in media outlets and review scores respectively, then it might work...but not in today's gaming world.
There isn't a single journalist that can tell you to like a better game than you can...period.

First off, using a child as an example just doesn't work. A child will grow by himself, his life and characteristics aren't governed by outside entities. A kid will NATURALLY get stronger as he grows(unless of course, he suffers from muscle atrophy, so even then...). A game, on the other hand, is controlled by folks who must work within the confines and capabilities of the platform it's being designed for...which means COMPROMISE. Do you sincerely believe that it's impossible for a game to lo...
Hopefully substantial improvements are made to an already stellar title.
I'd rather not see this become the Madden of skateboarding.
it's not fair to PRAISE the visuals of a game that's only 30% done either, but I've never heard anyone complaining about that...
Enough with the double standards, let people say what they want to say, so long as they're being sincere.
Now, I do think that this piece is a bunch of crap, as it states an issue inherent to all games. As I said earlier, this is akin to hating the Nintendo because it couldn't push polygons.
What I'm saying runs deeper though. ...
This, ladies and gentlemen, is marketing hype at it's finest...or most disgusting, depending upon how you look at it.
Not dissing the game itself, as I personally do think it looks superb, just tired of seeing this.
Midway takes a similar approach every time they're on the heels of a new Mortal Kombat game. Mk4 - we're revamping the series! Dud. MK:DA we're revamping the series! Dud.
but I will say this.
In all fairness, I agree with many that it's not even worth mentioning if it's as the article says...the usual graphical "fault" as they say...but the problem with people here is that they label this as a criticism. I think a more accurate term would be a simple observation. Big deal. I think most people would agree that it's there, but at the same time, probably doesn't affect them much because it's so widespread.
Ultimately my point w...
Why is it ok for the whole world to rave about the graphics of a game...no excuses for that, yet when someone make a criticism or voices a negative opinion...all of a sudden graphics don't matter?
So it's ok to speak highly of something you favor...yet when someone says otherwise, it never mattered in the first place? I'm gettin' tired of that.
Enough double standards. Gamers abound need to stop taking ownership in games and snap back to reality...this is just a hob...
because we all know that if someone doesn't like something that the teeming masses do, they must be either nuts, an elitist, not a true gamer, or any of various worn out cliche epithets that people sling around to quell their own insecurity.
How about this, if your precious game truly is as good as you let on, then you wouldn't give a crap about what the elitists say.
Caring what others think when you've already(supposedly) made up your mind only signals denial and i...
Looks more fun than what I've seen of Killzone in all honesty. Frantic and action packed, just the way I like it.
Graphics though...not quite there yet. I agree with some that for the most part it looks just like Gears 1. That isn't a bad thing IMO though, because to this day I still think Gears blows many games out of the water, so that's fine with me. Killzone wins in the visual department. Look at aliasing, particle effects, the environment, and especially the animations. Kill...
If I had a nickel for every time I've run across a fellow PS3 owner that believes the PSN costs money like Live does...I'd be a millionaire.
It completely stuns me, either Sony needs to start pitching this in big bold letters in their ads, or gamers everywhere need to spread the word.
You can't beat free...just can't. That's not a dig at Xbox by the way, I'm speaking strictly for the single console owners.
There is no sandbox game to be released within the next 6 months that stands a chance of stealing GTA4's thunder.
I don't quite think it's the Holy Grail like the rest of the world does, but...I won't influence sales and opinion as much as the masses, so again I say...smart move if true.
it does say in Japan...which strikes me as odd. Hopefully it goes everywhere, but maybe they're just testing the waters.
but I've gotta admit, that was one of the most creative spins I've ever seen. Kudos for that one, and I'm being sincere.
that's a good point, and a somewhat devious angle too. I tell ya, a good PR man is quite the sheister. At first, inflate the estimates to keep a glimmer of hope in the eyes of some, and then deflate them when the target is easily attainable so you can say by the end. "We greatly surpassed expectations."
That's underhanded...but it's clever, and a smart tactical move.
