They charged the same amount - $20.
And no, that isn't how remasters work. I'm not even sure where you even got that idea. Which game in the past have you had to already own before you got the privilege to buy the remaster of the game?
When your competitor is doing laps around you on a topic, you might want to at least think about it. Let's be clear, Sony's absolute refusal to even bring up the details about bc just makes them look stupid. If they don't want to do it, at least be honest and come out and say that you don't want to do it. Instead of mentioning it at all during the showcase, Jim Ryan had to finally admit the facts about PS1/PS2/PS3 bc when asked by Famitsu. We still have no idea how PS4 bc ...
This doesn't really change the complete tone-deafness of Sony around the whole issue. Activision got crap for forcing people who wanted the Call of Duty 4 Remaster to buy the Infinity War bundle and then Sony tries to do the same thing. Insomniac is trying to damage control the situation but you still cannot buy Spider-Man Remastered separately. You can pay to have your PS4 version upgraded but that just means new players have to pay for the same game twice if they want to play Spider-...

""Bethesda: $7.5 billion
Sony's 2013-2019 operating profit: $8.838 billion"
'Nuff said. "
Yet Microsoft has failed at almost every venture since the launch of Windows and XBox is the closest thing to being successful.
Zune going against IPOD. Microsoft loses.
Surface going against IPAD. Microsoft loses.
Windows Phone going against IPHONE. Microsoft lose...
"How is this doing bad?"
It says a lot when you have to leave out all of Bethesda Softworks' games between 2020's Doom Eternal and 2017's Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. I'll fill in your list -
Fallout 76 - 2018
The Elder Scrolls: Blades - 2019
Rage 2 - 2019
Wolfenstein: Youngblood - 2019
It was a very brief window for a few years following the launch of XB360 and mostly based on western RPGs. Microsoft followed the original XBox games Morrowind, Fable, Knights of the Old Republic, and Jade Empire with Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in 2006, Mass Effect in 2007, and Fable 2 in 2008. Microsoft also published the JRPGs Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.
I suspect that the game will initially be supported on PS5 but that will slowly wind down once Microsoft takes full control. In the past when MS and Bethesda worked together on Skyrim, PS players had to wait an entire year to get the DLC and 6 months just to get a decent patch to fix the lag. Compare that with ESO where even though Sony had the advertising rights for the game the only advantage that PS players got in 5 years was the exclusive Frisky Srib pet for preordering Morrowind throug...
The important part of the message is "the platforms currently supported" which doesn't include the PS5 since that hasn't released yet. While I'll still play ESO on my PS4, I cannot justify spending any more money on it knowing that there is a strong possibility in the future for the game support to be terminated or that there will no longer be a balanced approach to content release to the platforms. Nothing any of the corporate heads can say will stop my concerns since...
Yes, Microsoft did such a "great" job with Fable and Lionhead Studios that we should all be excited by this...
@TheRealTedCruz
Ok, I see what the confusion is - you have no idea what the word "greedy" means. Apparently, you think that making money and greedy are interchangeable terms, which they are not. Microsoft purchasing game publisher Zenimax to keep their third-party games off of rival platforms is the definition of greedy. In absolutely no way is that even remotely the same as Sony buying the game studio Insomniac which made almost exclusively developed games for...
Only thing it means to me is that I won't be buying anymore Zenimax games if they are exclusive to XBox. I am completely against monopolies and decades later Microsoft is still pulling this crap. Buying up an entire publisher just to keep their games off of your rival's platform is complete bs. Of course, it isn't surprising to see all those fanboys "upset" about Spider-Man in Avengers being locked to PS4 celebrating this purchase as some great win for gaming.
Which 3rd party developer did Sony acquire? Insomniac is the only studio Sony has bought this decade and the only game that they had made that was published by a 3rd party was 2013's Fuse. Are you seriously trying to say that that is the same thing as buying Zenimax which is an actual 3rd party publisher?
One less reason for me to support XBox. Instead of actually investing in new studios (just 1 out of 15) Microsoft instead just cares about buying other people's work so that they can claim it as their own. Microsoft had the chance to buy a publisher in 2012 with the bankruptcy of THQ but passed on every single IP as well as buying the entire publisher like they did here.
@SullysCigar
Why would Microsoft care about burning bridges? They already have a dedicated online store that sells XBoxs directly to consumers. The XBox Design lab is part of that online store and is the only place people can go to get official customized XBox controllers. XBox Game Pass completely undercuts any retailer trying to sell physical XBox games. The Walmarts and especially the Best Buys of the world need XBox much more than XBox needs them.
Shadow of the Colossus was a complete remake with the best graphics to date on the PS4 yet Sony only charged $40 for it (and everyone praised them for that). I have no problem paying an extra $10 for a new game. I am not paying $70 for a game that I have already platniumed, especially when Sony is selling SMMM for $20 less.
It is a valid example when I see the some of the people who criticized Nintendo for their handling of Super Mario 3D All-Stars commenting here in defense of Sony's handling of PS5 preorders. If what Sony did is acceptable because everyone knew a week in advance when the conference was, then the limited availability of Super Mario 3D All-Stars shouldn't be an issue since Nintendo has told us 7 months in advance of when sales end.
These should also be made available to PS4 users.
Excited about Demon Souls - no way I am paying $70 for it. Bluepoint's remake of Shadow of the Colossus was $40 at launch. Demon Souls should be the same price as Spider Man: Miles Morales.
So much defending of bad corporate behavior. "Sony doesn't have any control over retailers" Are you kidding me?! Sony worked to get both Gamer's Club Unlocked and Amazon Prime discount cancelled (or did you think that magically both services naturally ended within months of each other and that every retailer just happens to sell new games at identical prices). Sony then followed that up the next year with removing all digital sales from third-party vendors so that nobody...
@sampsonon
That event wasn't a press event but was a replacement for their GDC event. Since then, none of the press events have even mentioned the topic of backwards compatibility. Like you pointed out, the last time Sony publicly talked about bc was in March and now with less than 6 weeks to launch we still have almost no idea of how it will work. Will I be able to put my PS4 disc in and just start playing or will I have to download a digital copy of the game? Will...
