This isn't about the PS4/PS5 dying in 20 years. It is about a design flaw that prevents a video game console from playing video games if it doesn't get an update after replacing a battery.

The PS2 doesn't have trophies. The PS3 didn't have trophies when the system software was designed. That is why this wasn't an issue before.

Switch doesn't have trophies which is why they don't have the same problems with the CMOS battery.
Is it that you don't know that the Switch doesn't have trophies or that you have no idea about what the actual problem is here?

No, you cannot. The PS4 and PS5 have internal clocks that manage game trophies, preventing players from manipulating the time that they earned those trophies. When you replace the cmos battery, the system needs to be updated from the PSN before it allows you to play any game- digital or physical. In 20 years when Sony takes down those servers, all PS4s will eventually become useless hunk...

The problem is that your PS4 and PS5 need to be connected to the PSN servers in order to correctly update itself after replacing the battery. Everything is fine now but when Sony shuts down those servers in a few decades, PS4 and PS5 won't be able to play any games - digital or physical.
Just imagine not being able to play any Nintendo or PlayStation 1 games because those consoles are all now just hunks of plastic.

I agree with most of what you said except the part about Prey. IGN gave it a 4/10 at launch because of a game breaking bug and that was a generous score. Bethesda had made the decision to not send out early review copies for any of their games, basically forcing customers who bought it at launch to have no feedback beforehand. If you are going to sell a product sight unseen, it sure as hell better work.
