I won't say gameplay is the most important thing. Gameplay, graphics, sound, and story all make a great game.
But, there will be times going forward where good and great games will be something like 720p and 30fps.
Minecraft is always the game that comes to mind for me. Block graphics that look like crap but addictive as hell. They could put it at 480p and you would not notice a graphical difference. Yet 10's of millions of people play Minecraft c...
Blacklight, Counter Strike, Mag, Quake Wars Enemy Territory, and Breach were all online shooters as well. None of those games are really worth playing offline. Some or all of them have offline features but I doubt anyone really plays them offline much.
I am fine with devts being upfront and saying they won't do single player and/or offline. There is nothing wrong with that. Just like there is nothing wrong with a game not having a multi-player mode.
I will take frame rate over resolution every time...
A smooth running 720p (In Thief's case 900p) at a solid 30 fps will kick the ass of gameplay on a 1080p game dropping to 15-20 fps every time.
There is nothing I hate more than stuttering frame rate in a game.
I don't care what the name of the console is. I have said this before... 720p is the minimal resolution and 30 fps is the minimal frame rate. Every thing else is gravy.
Really? You make a statement to drop the Sony Too bit but say Sony was nothing like MS...
Read this and tell us how much different Sony really was than MS:

I think each person has their minimums for quality...
For me...
1) No game breaking bugs
2) 30 fps
3) A solid control scheme
4) A well put together experience
Everything else is secondary... Minecraft really doesn't look different at 1080p then 480p, but the experience is well put together, there are no real game breaking bugs, it doesn't stutter on framerate, and the control scheme is solid.
Yes I like XB most and play multi-platform games on XB. But, I do play all the PS exclusives and the Wii U exclusives.
XB has faults as well, but I am tired of the same repetitive articles on this site... And only fanboys would write those articles because everyone already knows that PS4 can do 1080p on most games and X1 can't. And fanboys have to keep drilling it in like a bad date that never seems to end.
I disagree...
Deadrising 3 is a lot of fun, Powerstar Golf is a fun extreme golf game, Killer Instinct is an awesome fighting game, Ryse is a solid action game, Forza 5 is a solid racing game, Halo Spartan Assault is a solid top/down shooter, Max and the Curse of Brotherhood is a really good platformer, Peggle 2 is a very cool game, Crimson Dragon is even good after the updates to it. Lococycle is the only really weak launch game for X1.
"Xbox One and PS4 1080p debate will "auto-balance" eventually, says Thief dev"
Ya, eventually playstation journalist and/or fanboys will quit writing about it (hopefully)...
We all know that PS4 can do 1080p and 60fps in most games and X1 can't. X1 owners have accepted this as fact but sony fanboys can't seem to let it go (Probably because the games on PS4 suck rocks compared to the ones on X1 - Yes, they are 1080p and 60fps but t...
Honestly, I don't see how it is a cash grab. This is one of the best top down shooters on X360, it stays true to the Halo canon, and it is loads of fun to play the levels several times.
It may not be what the typical Halo fans like, but from my perspective this is a solid and very fun game.
@Foxhound922...
No doubt Uncharted, The Last of Us, and LBP are great games.
But, if you look at the ratings of exclusives from Nintendo thru the years Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. all do very well. And just because it is the same IPs doesn't mean they aren't any good. Mario is about 10 different IPs based on the same theme and they are all great IPs. Super Mario, Donkey Kong Country, Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Brothers, etc.

Why didn't Killzone Shadowfall, Knack Call of Duty Ghosts, or Battlefield 4 win GOTY last year?
Aren't they 1080p and 60 fps on PS4? And released in 2013?
Because as a game they stunk compared to Last of Us! Nothing to do with resolution and framerates.
I don't sit and play a game and go...
"S--- that game sucks because it is less than 1080p and 60 fps"...
You are not a gamer if that's the only thing you use to judge game quality.
Do multiplatform games play differently on PS4 because of resolution and framerate? NO. When I am locked in a game of BF4 and CoD do I notice the resolution and framerate differences? NO.
How do I know? I play them on both my PS4...
I have both PS4 and X1... When I go onto PS4 most seem to be on BF4 or COD Ghosts. Same on X1...
My X1 friends talk about playing Ryse, Forza, DR3, Powerstr Golf, Halo Spartan Assault and Max the Curse of Brotherhood.
My PS4 friends, seem to be going back to PS3 for most other games. Not many of them play the indie collection. The only PS4 game getting any traction seems to be Resogun among my friends.
Resolutiongate is a sony fanboy thing. Just like last gen, xbox fanboys were rubbing in game resolution and framerate issues early in the generation with titles like the Orange Box.
The fact is... 720p resolution and 30fps is good. I didn't see Killzone Shadowfall win game of the year in 2013... But Last of Us which was 720p and could not hold 30fps at times did... Proving that resolution and framerate don't matter as much as gameplay.
And the GOT...
Minecraft proves that great games don't need to be absolutely beautiful.
I doubt many xbox fans believed the devts were lying. I'm sure it was mostly Sony fans that thought that. They are just more vocal than the Xbox fans.
When I looked at all the images, I wasn't really concerned. Even the original Alpha was fine for me. I care more about how the game will play then how it looks.
No multiplayer is always better than tacked on garbage multiplayer.
And I haven't seen enough gameplay to know on this game, but I would guess that maybe the gameplay isn't suited to online multi-player.
Nothing wrong with Sony avoiding multi-player.
Don't force something that should not be forced.
This article is everywhere and nowhere.
First, consoles almost never have the same specifications, so this constant comparison of PS4 specs to X1 specs is dumb. Previous generations have showed that console specs don't result in generation success. Wii was less powerful than PS3 and 360 but sold more, PS2 less powerful than XB but sold more, etc. etc.
Second, MS has not left their focus from gaming. X1 has started with more exclusives than Sony did on PS...
Hey, it gets approved for Xbox One all the time!
But, I definitely agree with your comment...
This is a gaming site... We should hear great things about all the great content on all platforms.
If you want reliability reviews, go to consumer review sites or to electronic review sites. If you want to talk sales, go to to console sales sites.
If you buy any electronic on launch day you should accept prices could (and will probably) fall. If you can't accept the launch price, you should wait and become a later adopter.
That goes for every electronic, not just consoles. I don't know how many times I have bought an electronic on launch day and saw the price drop a month later. The money I could've saved is significant. But, I keep going to stores on launch days for phones, tvs, computers, receivers, ...
