keeping secrets anywhere in the gaming industry is hard. We knew about Microsoft buying the producers of the "zcam" long before natal ever came to be, Kojima kinda leaked that MGS Rising would hit 360 also with his teaser site, Microsoft's Xbox 360+ was leaked accidentally by a natal dev... so it isn't just Sony.

The actual retail date of the price cut could come later than the 18th, but the announcement is supposed to be then. That would give them a bit of time to clear out old stock (at a reduced price, which makes sense when you look at the hints our source gave by saying PS3 gets a price cut and "something that hasn't been done before", such as the slim).

With GT5 rumored to land by Christmas, Uncharted 2 coming soon, and a possible PS3 slim and a price cut on the existing models (the 80GB's are being phased out in japan now, which hints that they're making way for a new model), Sony is in a VERY good spot to rule the holidays.

well, some of them simply couldn't afford it. it's not like they chose to skip until a price cut. there are some that did, however.

I can understand where you're coming from GEC... but at the same time, think about the consumers and how ticked off they'd be if they drop $400 now and they cut the price by $100 in a couple weeks! As much as we like Sony, it's us, the fellow gamer, that we're looking out for the most!

And they'll laugh when they see that report, because obviously you don't understand the definition of the word spam... let me help you. If I was spamming the article, I would be posting links to our site, forums, or any other type of promotion for us or the things we do. That is not what I have been doing at all. I have not been promoting anything at all, only commenting on something that I am quite hyped to hear about since I'm in the market for a couple PS3's right now (christmas).

I'm talking about the article, not spamming it. I have the right to comment wherever the hell I want, and you can't do a thing about it, so go cry me a river.

quite possibly, but it will likely be announced on the 18th.

You can trust it... this dude has yet to give us info that didn't pan out.

I updated the article with that info... it's at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany. Sorry for leaving that out.

Or as I mentioned, possibly responding to the negative reaction to PSP Go's price?

I personally believe this guy 100%, his rumors have been true before. All I have to say for now is... ABOUT @#!$%@% TIME!!!

What I want to see is voice recognition in a FPS, allowing you to interact with the characters. THAT would be immersion.

6160d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

That is true in a way, but it also kills immersion when your character simply does not interact with the people around him, which simply doesn't happen unless the character is a mute or some silent bad ass. It can work in some cases, but other characters don't fit the bill as well to be the silent type who never once says anything at all.

Imagine a silent duke nukem...

keep in mind the comments about the new model costing 70% less than the original, and the fact that their last price cut was by $100.

A completely different piece of hardware (with an additional 16gb's of memory thrown in) has absolutely nothing to do with ps3 or when it will get a price cut. sony's sales are slumping in this terrible economy, and they know the best way to beat that is by making their console more affordable.

I never once said it wasn't speculation.

As for why make a slim? Why did they do it with PS2? Why did they do it with PS1? Cost.

As they shrink components, moving them into a smaller chassis helps to eliminate production cost. It also makes it more appealing to consumers (especially the japanese) because it fits into the entertainment center easier.

Sony didn't "need" to shrink the PS2, it was already sitting on top of the world (as was the P...

I updated the article to make it a bit more clear, though the following sentance "meaning they have reduced the manufacturing cost of the system in line with their estimates on where it should be by now" already clarified that I meant I was talking about the production price.

I doubt those pics were real. It's possible that they could have been an early production model before the look was finalized, but i'm more inclined to believe that they are just cheap knockoffs. the contracts being signed and such by the manufacturers to make ps3 slim AFTER those pics leaked out is further support to that, as why would they make the systems before signing the contract?

we all know sony likes to make sexy machines... all of their previous systems have looked awes...

Considering the amazing gaming lineup PS3 has this and next year, if they drop the price to $300 by christmas and release a slim unit, the 360 will be in trouble. Some of sony's biggest heavy hitters like gran turismo, god of war, uncharted 2, last guardian, mag, etc. are still on the horizon, wheras 360 doesn't have quite as many high profile games on the way. ODST will certainly make waves, but not as much as a true "halo 4" would. That, and the slim PS3's will fare a lot better w...
