nobody here can claim xbox to be a success for microsoft at all... microsoft has only lost money with xbox... 7 billion dollars to be exact. the xbox 360 has paid back the money it cost the company already, which is good, but it did nothing to the 6.8 billion the company lost on the first xbox.

Xbox couldn't be farther from being profitable. The first one lost $6 billion. 360 has come nowhere close to profiting over that amount, therefore the Xbox project is still WAY in the red. The 360 might be paying for itself, but it doesn't erase the fact that enough money to feed thousands of families for years didn't go down the drain with the xbox project as a whole.

"Sorry man but this has to do with disk capacity and not the system in the whole cause Carmack and the ID crew know that graphically the 360 shi** all over the PS3 i mean why else would they choose it as lead system. Well aside from system familiarity."

Read the quote in the first post on this page. Carmack himself said the PS3 version will look superior, though only in specific instances. The rest would be identical. He even says in this game informer article that thou...

Burnout was a relatively simple game, far from an open world epic that we're seeing here. Just a small city to travel around in and a few cars and islands. Not all that space hungry. And Crysis, yes it can fit on a DVD9, but it is heavily compressed. When you install the game, it decompresses the files onto the hard drive. 360 doesn't have this option to be made mandatory like PC can, because not all 360's have hard drives. Therefore the decompression must be able to be done on the fly during...

"there's over 500 games on the 350, Im just curious how many games on the 360 actually require more than 1 dvd.if its lets than 50 games out of over 500 then this is not an issue, but anything to make the PS3 SEEM superior,"

Quantity means nothing, it's quality that matters. There are over 500 games on 360, but of those how many are high budget AAA titles? nowhere near as many. It's these sorts of titles that are having to make cuts to their content to fit on 360's disc...

@ digital comando

Actually, no it won't. Did you even read the article? Because of DVD, they REMOVED content from the game. So now it won't be the same game. We're getting a gimped version of their original vision because of the limitations of DVD.

And seriously, the proof is in the article, what's there to disagree about? he said we're getting a reduced version of RAGE because of DVD, plain as day. Nothing to disagree on there.

Until you RROD or require a hard drive to play all of your games (forza 3...)

Sometimes quality is better than quantity... just because you get more sales doesn't mean you have better quality. It just means you are better at hyping your product.

It's because RAGE is an open world game, similar to GTA. You will find yourself traveling between the two wastelands some, where you will have to swap the disc. Tossing in a third instance where you have to swap the disc to travel to area 3 obviously seemed like too much of a hassle to them, so they nixed the third wasteland. Imagine GTA San Andreas, where you have to change discs to go from san andreas to los santos or san fiero... having more than two discs could get to be restrictive when ...

Exactly, which leaves them to the realm of releasing additional hardware to plug into the xbox 360 itself, which as I pointed out in my 2 previous posts above, is a huge mistake.

And to those that disagree with my comments, most of them are coming straight from a game developer that posts in our forums, who actually has a bit of inside perspective on how these third party studios are reacting to both sony and MS' hardware add on approach. he goes by cpiasminc on forums.e-mpire.c...

Another fatal flaw to the hardware add on concept is that it divides the install base. Microsoft has already divided their install base 5 times now:

Xbox 360 owners
xbox 360 owners with Live!
Xbox 360 owners with HDMI (not totally divisive, but it does prevent 360 from utilizing all of HDMI's features like 24 bit 7.1 surround sound or HDMI based 3D)
Xbox 360 owners with a hard drive
Xbox 360 owners with Natal

Further segmenting an already brok...

The problem with piggybacking hardware onto existing hardware, as we all came to find with the sega CD and the 32x, is that you are still restricted by certain bottlenecks present in the old hardware that prevent you from being able to utilize the new hardware to it's fullest potential. Case in point, Sega CD being restricted to using the Genesis' terrible 64 colors on screen at once color palette, which severely impacted the quality of it's visuals making the full motion video look even wors...

Natal's fatal flaw is that it has almost a half second of lag. That is what sony was taking a stab at when they said there is no lag like previous camera based setups. Even eyetoy had lag. The new setup does not. You can watch natal's demos, and there is a clear and present lag (I even have photo proof from a pic we took at the MS press conference, where you can see the girl with her leg in the air and her avatar is standing on both feet still). That, coupled with the fact that natal still gl...

Should one of the world's biggest hardware giants for the past 50 years, known to make quality hardware in the gaming, television, consumer electronics, and recording industries, exit hardware?

Hell no. Not while some company that made it's name on software alone and has not been able to design an overheating issue out of their console for 3 years is still on the market. Not after crushing world records with most consoles sold, and then doing it again 7 years later. Not after sel...

GT5's video is as real time as forza's, both are in game assets but are using the touched up replay mode which is not indicative of actual gameplay visuals. case in point, there is a LOT more aliasing on forza's in game visuals, and I'd expect to see some in GT5 as well. none the less, as said before, Forza still looks like a game whereas GT5 borders photorealism, and running at a higher resolution to boot.

6192d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Bear in mind GT5 runs in a higher native resolution than Forza does, with forza running at 720p, and (if GT5 Prologue is anything to go by), GT5 running at a res between that and 1080p (forgot the exact pixel dimensions).

GT5 achieves the more realistic look, but Forza is still very clean looking none the less. However, this video shows REPLAY MODES, not gameplay. In Forza's gameplay, which I got to check out while at E3, there is considerably more aliasing (jagged edges) going ...

Well, it probably has to do with the fact that since, at times, 360's dvd drive is faster than ps3's blu-ray drive, when making a multiplatform game they might want that extra bandwidth, so they use the hard drive. that said, i agree that it is probably them just cutting corners to save development time and money by requiring unnecessarily large installs (over half the 360 version's size in some cases) so they can get around the disc drive speed difference when a little code optimization and ...

6198d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

The blu-ray lens actually reads faster than dvd in some instances, due to the fact that blu-ray discs have a constant read rate while dvd's is variable.

if all installs were made optional, it would eliminate the advantage gained by being able to cache data to the hard drive for faster reading (faster loads, the ability to stream more data at once allowing for more complex levels, audio, visuals, etc), so they would be forced to craft their game with the limitations of the blu-ra...

The thing is, they have already invested so much money into the development of those games, and those games are so far along in development, that it would be a huge waste of cash for them to drop sony and not even release the games that they were working on. even if they did drop sony, all of those games would release but there would be no further production started for new ps3 games.
