This whole press release reeks of desperation. It's June, and they're trying to hype up their holiday lineup... because they have nothing else positive to say at this point. Looks like another disappointing NPD is on the way.
@clover
and 2 games a month for ps4! and free games for 3 different consoles for one price.
It's like this IP is cursed... whoever owns it goes out of business.
Even with the upgrades, they're not pushing the console as hard as it could be pushed. They could solve the problem with one more option... a 1080p mode that doesn't let you switch, and a sub 1080p mode that does.
One 1080p frame takes up about 13mb. 2 of them rendered together will take up 26mb. The frame buffer needs massive bandwidth, so devs would want to use ESRAM for that instead of the DDR. There is only 32mb of ESRAM to work with, and there are other functions that need high bandwidth RAM for the GPU to be able to do its thing. This is where they are hitting a challenge.
This is why many Xbox One games choose higher quality effects, faster frame rate, etc. over hitting 1080p r...
If it didn't, the datacenters could be reused to strengthen Sony's other services. Eventually net connections will reach a point where cloud gaming is viable, and keeping ahead of the competition with research, hardware, and patents is nothing but a good thing. So, the investment is worth it. Cloud gaming, and eventually even cloud rendering, will be a thing eventually, even if these companies are jumping the gun a bit. At least they're testing and building infrastructure to hand...
and that's just input lag... no other commands other than what button your controller pushed, and a compressed video stream that scales down to less than 5mbps if needed... and too much lag on decent internet connections. and to think there's people who think that consoles are ready for cloud aided rendering...
I've had this game on PS4 since launch last November?
Which is why I said "similar", not "same".
Some games are already taking similar approaches on their own, such as Far Cry 4 allowing people to play along in multiplayer with a friend even if they don't own the game.
The article, ridiculous. Especially coming from a PS fansite.
However, the concerns regarding Xbox One's support drying up are not far fetched. MS started off roaring strong with 360, stealing exclusives from the PS brand left and right, coming out with new IP (Gears) that sold extremely well and established the console as the go-to place for shooters, both first and third person. They built an online system unrivaled by anything else on consoles.
Then So...
This place is turning into Xbox Live...
Not new, actually a former journalist myself, I've been to E3 3 times now and have been to many invite only industry events, however I haven't been keeping up with the scene as closely for the past few years. I've definitely never heard of them, and regardless this is just click bait.
This exact same headline was posted in another article over a year ago.
A console, a controller, an autographed picture of Phil Spencer smirking while chewing bubblegum, and a 3 month Live membership.
Not to mention this is the hundredth opinion article about this exact same subject. N4G should put a limit on the number of days after a piece of news breaks that an opinion piece can be written about it or something... this is getting ridiculous.
Another no-name gaming fansite trying to get hits with flame bait headlines.
Definitely some butthurt going on here.
When's the last time you saw a "I want Sunset Overdrive to Fail"?
I guess some can handle favored developers going multiplatform better than others.
PS4 actually has better depth of field effects.
