Half of the articles on N4G these days are people telling you why you should or should not like something.
I think they need to speed up with the indies. I'm having more fun with them than just about every AAA title out there right now. Those are the games that dare to be different, and they're not all 8 or 16 bit throwback games. Right now War Thunder gets more playtime than any other game I own... and it was free!
There really wouldn't be much of an advantage playing a game like this on PC. It's a great game and could define its own genre, but in the end its visuals aren't exactly maxing the PS4 out.
So, it really comes down to where and how you want to play, vs. the visuals.
Sony have already made it very clear they are very interested in a subscription service for Now. As for the paid beta, part of working out the bugs is also working out the bugs in pricing, doing market analysis and seeing who is willing to pay for what, and then setting your prices when the service matures out of beta. this isn't just a test on the tech, but a test on the market for the tech.
@axios
Xbox as a brand has never turned a dime of profit. Xbox lost 4 billion. Xbox 360 another billion lost to RROD. All of the profits 360 made from Live and game sales were not enough to erase that 5 billion dollars worth of red ink. Xbox One also selling poorly now, so no chance to pay down that debt.
SCE may have erased PS1 and PS2 profit with PS3's mistakes, but they are well on their way back to being a profitable console brand.
Don't act like you've never seen a beta force you to buy another game to get access to it... monetizing a beta is nothing new. Part of the testing phase for this service is determining pricing and subscription service structure, so of course they want to see who is willing to pay for what.
...and microsoft continues their transition to "Games as a service". I get the feeling like they want to move on to that exclusively.
That isn't to say Sony isn't flirting with it too. Hell, PS+ and PSNow are both prime examples of games as a service.
Yes, as should any company. Keeping assets that have done nothing but lose money makes no sense. The Xbox brand went 4 billion in the hole with Xbox One and never was able to get enough steam behind it under Microsoft's control to get out of that initial debt.
They have made fumble after fumble with the brand. They took their only chance at real mainstream success and pissed it away by trying to force DRM down everyone's throat, then lying about kinect, etc. Even toda...
While I love the game, their response was essentially "we're gonna give you more game via DLC for the low low price of $19.95 per area! But WAIT! THERE'S MORE! Buy within the next 15 minutes, and we'll throw in the ultra super mega pulse rifle, ABSOLUTELY FREE! A $50 VALUE!!!"
We'll see though, I don't want to judge the game before I've played all of it.
"Stupid comment from some fool obsessed with some lame anime garbage nobody cares about"
Yes, but they also said aiming for TLOU's remake, and then they achieved it. I know the 2 games are in different leagues, but this is Naughty Dog we're talking about. They never cease to impress.
I think that the brand needs to live on, just not under Microsoft's control
Considering that it is rather obvious that driveclub milks every last bit of power out of PS4 for its amazing visuals, it would be one monumental challenge to get that game up and running in 3D at 60fps (needed for good VR). They probably would have to build a game from the ground up to be able to scale to those demands rather than adapt a game they've been working on to run in 2D at 30fps.
@crib
you do know there are more PS3s in the wild than 360s, and they also were in on the stress test, right? Argument validated.
Also, all of PSN didn't get knocked out.
and you base that bet on what? The odds aren't in your favor considering there are twice as many PS4s out there.
Dude says this as Destiny's Beta crashes Xbox Live (with millions fewer playing due to smaller install base) because of a bug...
@dawkins
"or they don't have one"
You do realize every PS4 comes with a headset, right?
Yes, but I hated this video. A bunch of random segments strung together by "Subscribe now!" screens, and little focus on the actual subject matter.
All console games have some form of DRM. This isn't a "must be connected every hour" type of DRM, just a "this person has purchased this game and is authorized to play it on this machine" DRM.
lol... what is this? this is confusing. There is no source! I don't know what it all means. could you repeat the question?
This news seems to have hit MPOG so hard they can't tell up from down anymore...
