Saying no doesn't change reality. It's a very powerful GPU in that little $700 box... and the part they're leaving out in the article is that it has ray tracing tech not even found in the 7800XT, RDNA4 equivalent tech, in addition to the PSSR which is supposed to be superior to anything the 7800XT can do. Couple that with the 2TB SSD that has faster then PCI-E 4.0 speeds, hardware decompression that doesn't take any GPU power to do (unlike PCs) and dedicated 3D audio hardware ...
My last GPU purchase was $1,500, and I damn sure didn't buy it for gaming. I bought it for work. In fact, I've never run a single game on it. It's my little ray tracing monster. $700 is about the most I could ever see myself spending on gaming, regardless of the platform.
Cerny did say it was up to the developer.
There will always be a place for 30fps games... though as AI tech continues to improve, we'll see that getting upscaled to 60 more often than not. Before long, AI will reach a point where the console will render a few really high quality frames per second and AI will generate the rest... just look at AI doom, running entirely via AI generation.
The one thing it has going for it is the fact that it upscales and upframes all older games that it can play with no input required from the developer, so even our PS4, PSVR, and PSVR2 library will be looking and playing better.
I'm not happy about buying it at this price, and I'm only doing so because I planned on giving my nephews my OG PS5 for Christmas, and if I'm going to buy a new console, I might as well buy the best... but I did take a serious pause and ...
Lightning, limited or not, it's still a ripoff.
I'm not justifying Pro's price, or XBSX 2TB's, I'm just pointing out the fact that this is the competition Sony is facing... $600 for a 2TB 12 TeraFLOP console. So, how do you think, with that in mind, they're going to approach dropping a 2TB 33.5 TeraFLOP console? I'm surprised they didn't go for $800, considering what their competition is charging.
PSSR can upscale both frame rate and resolution. Being that PSSR works on the game after the engine renders the image, there is no reason why it couldn't generate extra frames as well as more pixels before sending it to the display.
"Lack of competition" - Microsoft's 2TB Xbox Series X, with literally no other upgrades over the base model than the hard drive, is only $100 cheaper than the substantially upgraded 2TB PS5 Pro, while still having a slower SSD than the base model PS5.
Having a PS4 port doesn't mean it isn't the best looking racing game on consoles. Even Digital Foundry agrees with that. Now it looks even better.
Microsoft wants $599 just to add 1TB to the hard drive, with no further upgrades to the base Series X at all. While Pro is VERY expensive, if we look at bang for the buck vs. the competition, well... it comes with 2TB also, plus 65% more GPU cores, 3x better ray tracing, it's the most powerful console on earth. At least you have something to show for that extra money.
I'd love to see someone here build a $700 PC that can do Gran Turismo 7 in 8K, or 4K with full ray tracing. Post your links, lol.
Sony has not deviated from their 10 year lifespan... PS5 will continue to get great games for years to come, but there's now an option to play them at higher resolutions and framerates with better ray tracing, for those who want to pay for it.
"CPU Specifications ; Total Cores 6 ; # of Performance-cores 6, # of Efficient-cores 0"
Nope, the PC you linked is a 6 core. A delivery bicycle indeed...
Also, PS4 is RDNA 3/4 Hybrid, with ray tracing features not found in any current GPU.
Gran Turismo 7 already supports 8K on PS5 Pro, or 4K with full ray tracing.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is charging $600 for a Series X with nothing upgraded but the hard drive (...
Another thing they're not mentioning, PS5 Pro automatically upscales all PS5 games with no updates required, PSVR2 games as well... and it's doing so for $100 more than the 2TB Xbox Series S.
No, Darth, you won't find a PC that can game anywhere near as good a a pro for $700. Both the CPU and GPU will be weaker. It won't have PSSR or 3D audio. It definitely won't have a controller with haptics and adaptive triggers.
Same CPU, but it's overclocked more.
"And their new consoles aren't absurdly priced either."
Are you even hearing yourself talk? Microsoft dropped an Xbox Series X with the exact same hardware and nothing more than a bigger hard drive, 2TB, for $600.
"you can do a whole lot more on a gaming PC than you can a 5 Pro."
Not at that price point...
"Though right now microcenter in America is selling with there in house brand 4060 gaming pc's with 6core cpu's for $749"
And y'all were whining about PS5 Pro's 8 core Ryzen being too weak... pick a complaint and stick with it. A weak 6 core CPU is going to have far worse framerates than a PS5 Pro. The 4060 is also a weak GPU compared to PS5 Pro. A 4060 is roughly equivalent to a AMD RX 7600. PS5 Pro is equivalent to a 7700XT, but with the addition...
Articles need to stop telling people what to do. I agree that a PS5 Pro is a good value over a similarly priced PC, but regardless, let people think for themselves.
