Would be impossible on Xbox One since the game doesn't output at 1080p.

Xbox One struggles with higher resolutions and framerates, which is a key factor in good VR that doesn't make you sick. It could do VR, but it would have to really scale back the visuals to pull it off. A good bit more than PS4, considering most multiplat games enjoy a 40-60% increase in pixels per frame on the PS4, with more stable framerates. 1080p60 with no framerate drops is a bare minimum for VR... and yes I have a VR headset (google cardboard with a 1080p phone) and have used Oculus...

You missed my point entirely. The fact that they have such scalability is what limits them. If the developer targeted one specific build of PC (which will never happen, but I'm speaking theoretically here), and put in features such as physics and AI that the game relied on that maxed out that build to its fullest potential (we'll assume it is a monster build), you wouldn't be able to port that game to weaker hardware without making some big compromises to the gameplay itself. Much...

There are still ways you can craft a game to take full advantage of one specific architecture that would make the game unplayable on other architectures without heavy compromises.

Make a game that maxes out a PC with the latest Intel/Nvidia chips and a ton of RAM, and make that game take full advantage of that particular PC build's capabilities, and you aren't going to be running that game on any other system (PC included) without heavy compromises. Any multiplatform ...

You mean the one where the author blamed cross gen ports and launch titles for not innovating in ways next gen consoles could only do, as if that has ever happened in the history of gaming consoles? The article that ignored many of the most intriguing next gen games on the way, such as No Man's Sky (a game with 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 explorable planets) and focusing on SEQUELS to existing popular franchises (whose fans would be pissed if the games deviated too far from their predecess...

"Why the next-gen is failing to live up to the hype"

It looks like a PS game because it is artistic, imaginative, and approaches things from a slightly different (albeit similar in visual style to puppeteer) approach vs. the usual games out there.

Not surprised MS canned it.

and a gamepad, as some of the games can't be played as well with kb/m.

lots of other non-gaming stuff. like updating drivers because the one you're using has a bug that crashes certain games, or makes other games run like crap. or maybe searching for an Nvidia card, because the AMD card you bought doesn't run the game you like optimally due to a partnership between Nvidia and that developer. or scanning for viruses. or making lots of noise and taking up lots of space.

Oh yeah, and that free OS you thought you could install to bypass hav...

I don't want to flail my arms around just to make a character on a screen flail its arms around, as it is stupid. However, if I am fully immersed in another virtual world, I do want to be able to interact with that world.

The clouds have dried up, the bottle of secret sauce has dripped its last drop, and now they've moved on to denial that the problem was ever a problem to begin with.

You cannot get as good of a frequency response with such a tiny driver vs. larger over-ear headphones. That's like trying to say you'll get as good graphics out of a wii as you will a PS4. Over-ear headphones create a larger chamber around your ear for sound to resonate in, accommodate a larger speaker system which can produce a wider range of frequencies, and can produce better dynamic range... though you guys probably are used to listening to modern mp3s that have been mastered to h...

The 6's GPU didn't even bench better than the phone in my pocket, and my phone can't even do console quality graphics... so no, this overpriced piece of tech from 2012 can't do it either.

In ear headphones suck. Even the best ones have very limited bass response.

Ps4 outsold every other device, handhelds included, combined... by 40k units.

I own one, and know that you're talking out of your ass. Videogames of any sort can cause seizures (why do you think there's a warning on every game? You can't turn PS4 on without seeing one.) As for motion sickness... there are people who can't play a FPS due to motion sickness. You can't make a one size fits all VR or 3D system that will work even for people with weak eyes/sensitivity to motion.

The negative reports have been outnumbered vastly by the positive, by no less than an 80%-20% margin. Of course, you can't make a device that straps to your face that everyone is going to be able to enjoy. Some people get motion sick easy. Others can't stand having something on their faces for long, and get uncomfortable. VR isn't and never was for everybody, much like 3D. VR appeals to a wider audience than 3D, but faces the same issues with people being made uncomfortable by it ...

The final project morpheus may very well have a higher resolution than the current one (which is equal in resolution and has better head tracking than the rift DK2). It has been hinted at by people at Sony that they are debating over using the current screen, or an even better OLED screen with faster response time and higher resolution. Cost will decide which they go with upon release. Since they have no solid release date, they have some flexibility when it comes to the final specs.

Jimmy Fallon, Conan, and hundreds upon hundreds of gaming journalists at E3, TGS, and Gamescom all tried it without issue... so obviously the "it makes me sick" camp is far outnumbered by the "it was really cool!" camp.

Also, if it were on Xbox One, it would be making even more people sick or getting even more resolution complaints, due to lower native rendering resolution, framerate, or both. The box struggles hard enough just rendering one viewpoint at ...

Some people are not going to be able to use virtual reality of any sort without feeling sick. Some folks can't watch 3D anything without getting a headache. You can't make a one size fits all solution that makes it work... Even at 120fps. I have a phone with a 1080p screen, and a google cardboard headset to make it a VR device. I can personally tell you the "nintendo DS resolution" claim is total bull****. The only time I ever see any pixelation at all is when trying to look...
