That’s definitely a possibility. I would imagine that the market would react to price/value of that change. But salaries, team sizes, and other the capital costs increase year over year, so at some point our game prices will need to change keep up with the complexity of the next generation games. Do I want to play $70, no of course not. But I completely understand the reasoning behind it.
I do not understand for the life of me how/why this difficult to understand. If production costs increase, then the price will too. If games aren’t worth the $10 hike, then the market will correct itself. Micro transactions aren’t going anywhere, they’re a margin rich way to provide revenue, I personally dislike them and refrain from any and all MC purchases. If games remain at $60 and production costs still increase, then you will get smaller games, fewer games, and far less innovation to pl...
So then how does mean they get a “pass?” Millions of people don’t continuously buy their games over nearly 40 yrs because people were willingly overlooking supposedly flaws/redundancy. Also just because the IP name is the same doesn’t mean the game to game product is the same.
No one “praised” game for its technical performance. But praised the fact that it could actually be ported to the device. It’s nearly a 10 point drop in review rating from the other versions of the same game.
And you may be right, it’s just hard to tell where the author was going with this exactly.
I’m confused as what the author is getting at exactly. Blaming the switch for a poorly done port of a game like Outer Worlds (which did not get a free pass), is fine, but other studios have brought switch ports over with far less issues. So wouldn’t it then be the developers problem? Secondly “giving the switch a pass,” does mean games are suddenly glorified more than what they are. For example the port of Wolfestein 2, it had poor resolutions, but it worked and it’s a fun way to play the ga...
Oh man just off the top of my head; FFVII, LoZ:OoT, Uncharted 2, BioShock, Fallout 3, GoW3, Metroid Prime, Mass Effect 2, Super Metroid, Castlevania SoT, New GoW, Batman Arkham Asylum, Halo 3. The opening scenes/levels to these games did such a great job of setting the tone for much of the rest of the game.
It’s economics and expectation. Every gen costs go up, especially in the beginning. If we expect expansive, state of the art gameplay, graphics, and interactivity, well then something has to change, and given the irrational nature of gamers, I can safely assume reigning in expectations isn’t going to be a top priority...
It kinda of had boss fights with the cauldron areas, the encounter with the huge bird (I forget its actual name), anytime you encountered a Thunderjaw, or those big corrupted machines deathbringers. And true the end boss fairly simple.
GoW, I really liked the game, but it just lacked different enemy types or boss battles. Easily the most challenging “bosses” were the optional Valkarie fights.
Personally I think HoZD is the best game the PS4 gave this gen. I loved GoW but the lack of enemies and epic boss fights keep it from the PS4s best game. I’m playing through the LoU2, so I can’t comment on that, but so far HoZD is its best game IMO.
I thought about it, but I want to support developers that take chances, regardless of whether it could be good or bad. Besides, as a collector, I need to own a copy of a controversial masterpiece, right?
It’s very interesting to read these reviews and reactions. My brother, who’s sole reason for getting a PS4 was for this game... was not impressed, graphics, gameplay, design he loved... story not so much. But I’m picking up my copy tomorrow and very interested to play it.
The Star Wars Rogue Squadron games we’re my favorite of the franchise
Meh, an all digital home console isn’t for me. There’s nothing like opening a brand new game and popping in a cartridge or disk to play. Plus you’d have to contend with Sony throttling their network speed/downloads. While not horrible, it’s noticeable.
I am very much looking forward to a quiet PS console after having the jet engine that is my ps pro past couple of years
I don’t think anyone knows the price therefore no one can say that the digital version is $100 less
It’s hard to tell how wide it is given the pic of the sizes floating around. But I would say it’s roughly 14.4” tall if comparing to my ps pro. https://old.reddit.com/r/Xb...
I wouldn’t say it puts pressure on them. I would say it just puts the ball back in their court. They’ll show what they plan to have game wise and then fanboys will take sides while the rest of us figure out budgets. Besides both are obviously playing “price chicken” with each other. I think outside of supply, pricing are the two biggest pressure points for both companies at the moment.
I like both, but I am concerned now after seeing how massive the PS5 is in size and where I’m going to put it.
Yes it will survive. Prices really haven’t changed on games for nearly two decades, yet salaries, teams, and game complexity have increased exponentially (for AAA games). Something has to give.
