When extra sleep started to outweigh free gaming time.
The Genesis factually had a better processor than the SNES, so the “speed” of gameplay action was very evident in their games. But the SNES had the FX chip which allowed for 3D-ish games like Starfox, MARIO Kart and others. So each system did something different graphically/gameplay wise but not necessarily better. I got the SNES because of Mario? Zelda, TMNT, UN Squadron and the list goes on, but owning one never stopped me from looking at the Genesis and wanting it for the games. So I thin...
I’ve been around since the Atari 2600 days, and while the Genesis had a different style of graphics than the SNES, it was still about which games on the system you preferred. Plus you had the TurboGrafx was from a processing standpoint more powerful... but not exactly a console that took the world by storm, along with the NEOGEO or 3DO.
I get it, it definitely can be an important if not an exciting feature for any console. But it’s never the sole reason for a purchase, especially when obviously games are the sole reason for a console, and for me at least price is typically important (at least at launch).
Personally I thought the series took a huge leap in story telling (particularly in writing). I thought 4 was wry cliche with horrible action hero catch phrases. Though 5 has some of those moments too, it’s still far and away better at story telling and most importantly character building.
I can’t ever remember a console doing well because it’s “sole” selling feature was graphics.
I don’t get this “is it worth $60” topic. It’s worth what people will pay for it. And a lot of people will no doubt pay $60 for it. I paid $60 for the RE2 remake, paid $39 for the Crash remake(s), and I can’t remember what I paid for on the Shadow of Colossus remake, but they were are worth their price tags just as I’m sure Zelda will be.
Again subjective. Nintendo does what does well and that’s a multitude of great platformers mixed in with some adventure titles. Sony does the 3rd person open world story driven games very well. Neither though are particularly innovative though. So it’s whatever you want your game to fit your mood.
To your point though, I think that’s why we’ve been living in such a gamers dream. Nintendo appears to those who want their platformer/adventure fix, Sony appeals mostly for those who want their narrative 3rd person action/rpg fix, and Microsoft has their racing and sometimes good action game niche. I think anyone can find something they prefer across three great (console) platforms.
I think the word “ever” is a little hyperbole, as it’s all subjective. But they definitely have been consistent through their years as a video game company, especially if you like their kind of games. But Sony is definitely up their now, especially with their 1st party efforts over the past decade or so. Microsoft has been hit or miss, hopefully with the developers they now have, they can become a little more consistent with their 1st party output
Kids like him rarely have anything important to do on a weekend... so copy & pasting Xbox nonsense through 20 alt accounts helps pass their time.
I appreciate him as an artist, and I do believe he is one of the very few creative minds that isn’t completely tethered down in a very very corporate industry. However, I do believe artistic minds do need focus sometimes. And I really really really hope I’m wrong, because this industry always needs new ideas, but Death Stranding is seemingly unfocused on what he wants it to be, particularly as a video game.
I mean this can happen to just about any modern game in the era of the internet. For me, “over-hype” generally happens in the story, gameplay and/or graphics you generally know what to except these days with an overload in previews.
I wonder what the market cap is these days for the console industry. The xbox360/ps3/wii got to nearly 300 million though I believe the Wii and it’s causal pull propped up the market. I’ve always kind of wondered what a potential cap would be between 3 if all were competitive and not marketing to the causal market.
That is a very good question. I would assume we can, because as we all know, if there was even the rumor that you couldn’t, the internet would freak out.
I read on twitter this morning he’s calling this a “social strand game, an action strand game.” In terms of its genre... I have no idea what that means...
Not a franchise but for the love of god re-release EINHANDER!
If we’re talking direct sequels and not continuation of a series i.e. MARIO, Zelda, Final Fantasy, etc.
Here would be my list in no particular order:
1. Super Metroid
2. Uncharted 2 (easily my favorite in the series)
3. Halo 2
4. God of War 2
5. Zelda II
6. Mass Effect 2
7. Turok 2
8. Tomb Raider 2 (PS1)
9. Mega Man 2
10. Resident evil 2
I do not for one second believe that Sony Pictures, whom can’t afford to have Spider-Man be less popular and Disney won’t let Spider-man for whom I’m safely assuming is a significant part of their MCU for years to come, won’t eventually come to some sort of agreement.
The Switch is a hybrid, with the purpose of the mini generating revenue from the EOL of the 3DS and their dedicated gaming division. Not sure what’s hard to get about that exactly.
