Exactly, I know there’s the stigma that the hardcore gamer typically only caters to the highest spec system to only the most graphic in-depth gaming. But I would argue that more and more “hardcore” gamers are about playing the most games across all consoles. The Switch is mostly likely not going to be a primary system (at least from a market share position).

Define “hardcore.” Are those that only seek the highest graphic fidelity in games? Then no, those have long moved on to the PC and “pro” version consoles. If you define “hardcore” as those gamers that play everything from tower defense games to mature narrative driven games and buy games in the masses, well then the answer is yes as evident by their sales.

From what I heard, this first “episode” will be on two discs and will only be in the city Midgar with 40-60 playable hours... of those who enjoyed the original and know that Midgar really only takes 5-ish hours to complete... what in the heck are they going to fill it with for 40+ hours!? I’m less and less interested in this as a FFVII fan, but still interested to see what they pull off.

I’m not so much concerned as to the resolution but as to what the frame rate situation will be like. If it’s 720p and at a stable 30fps... then I might consider the double dip, particularly to finally go through the DLC.

Metroid literally restarted development this past January, Animal Crossing has never been about graphic fidelity, and Zelda was not CGI, that is the same in-game graphics of the Breath of the Wild.

Or Doom, Wolfenstein, Witcher, Alien Isolation...

Nintendo came correct. Good show.

I heard this rumor a while back, outside of how this would even perform on the console... the issue of porting was due to the size of carts. They were supposed to be expanding the size to 64gb soon which is “supposed” to allow these larger games to be ported over. I guess we’ll see

I love whatculture YouTube videos particularly on movies and tv, their video game videos are heavily influenced by PlayStation games (which are great and all) but when they stray from the PS topics they definitely lose me.

I think you’re thinking of something else/another article. This one states that it has sold past the PS4 lifetime sales in Japan, not the rest of the world.

Streaming playback, Netflix, YouTube, etc. I don’t foresee any gameplay either in a native or “checkerboard” out of the box. It’s just to cost prohibitive to offer at this point.

Oh well. Can’t win them all.

Thank you! I’m saying $500, they are still going to try and avoid any loss per unit sold like they did with the PS3. They were able to sell the PS4 at a profit from launch and still be the most powerful console, I don’t know why they would change that model.

I think we’re still at least one gen away from this possible all digital and/or streaming gaming console reality. Gaming as a service makes great business sense, high margins, complete control, and the potential to reach more markets... that being said, not all of us are connected to fiber, 5g, or heck even decent broadband. Digital will continue grow and firmly surpass physical next gen but the quality and ability to go firmly digital strictly depends on the transport and there are still m...

To be fair, outside of Apex, what has gone right for EA lately?

I said it won’t support 8k gameplay.
You said the article would said it would support “upscaling.” And by the context I’m assuming you’re thinking it’s gameplay upscaling.
So I pointed out that, the upscaling quote is an (incorrect IMO) assumption as Sony has not been quoted that 8k pertains to gameplay.
Not sure what there is to miss.

Exactly, I mean games at 1080p are 40-50gbs on average. You make them 4K native, they would be closer to 100gbs. The PS5 on paper looks awesome... I just hope they’re not going down a Xbone/PS3 pricing route at launch. I’ll still under up getting it... but anything over $400 is still a tough sell to the masses for console gaming.

It’s the article that “assumes” it would be upscaling. All Sony has said is that it would support 8k graphics/resolution, to which in theory would more than likely mean video playback. Having 8k resolution for gaming (even upscaling) would be a very very tall order given the current state of technology &prices for a machine that would/could launch in 2020-2021.

I’m sorry but this won’t support 8k... at least not in gameplay form. We’re still about 3-4 where 8k TV sets are even an economical consumer choice. I’m curious what size SSD drive will ship with it, I mean it needs to be at least 1tb... which is still kind of expensive, but I do hope they make it happen. I’m just super happy it’s going to be BC, and if they just focus on 60fps vs any unnecessary bells & whistles, it’s a day one for me for sure.

Definitely my favorite FF game. Im pretty sure my blockbuster rental fees could have paid for the game twice over back in the day.
