Zero Day 1 releases, only 2 cross-gen AAA 1st party games in over the first 2 full years of being out, I’d say this gen is off to the worst start for a new Xbox generation.

Even Xbox One came out with with Ryse: Son of Rome, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct and Forza Motorsport 5 on day 1 on top of several 3rd party releases.

Totally agreed. I just always had high hopes for where Shenmue was headed. 1&2 had great hand to hand combat with a fun crime drama story to unfold just like Sleeping Dogs. Was never a fan of the Yakuza games so Sleeping Dogs was always the closest thing to scratching that itch for me. Super awesome game. Also, I’ve heard the Judgement series by Sega is similarly good, but I hadn’t got around to trying them out yet.

It was what I always wanted out of a Shenmue sequel. Always wished Shenmue 3 would’ve been properly funded and ended being like Sleeping Dogs. Always felt like a more story focused GTA with good hand to hand combat for me. Definitely a gem worthy of occasionally revisiting, and a proper budget sequel would have my money day 1.

Ghost of Tsushima, LOU2, and Bloodborne all say hello as well. Just a fantastic generation of games overall IMO. Hard to rank really.

With services. Still no AAA games all year long for an almost brand new console to play. You know, the main reason we buy the box for…

Yes, there’s definitely an axe to grind when loyal customers can no longer expect quality titles on any kind of regular basis out of their platform creators. We’ve spent far too much money and waited far too long for what?…more services? Where are the medium defining games? It’s like they completely quit trying to compete and went out and bought a whole new roster just to say they have something, but it’ll be another 2-4 years before you see any of it. So why release a new console with nothin...

I’d argue the activision move by MS was more then just about games. CoD was a large revenue source for SIE in general. Sony relied on those profits to help them fund projects large and small up and down the company throughout the years. This move directly affects a main competitor’s operating budget. But hey, If you can’t beat them, steal their resources and smile while giving their hard work away for free(MLB:the show). Nothing cut-throat going on here at all. Not an Amazon move at all…

You know your can turn haptics off right? Helps improve battery-life too. Might as well if it hurts your hands.

Amen. I’ve been saying the same thing to my buds. Feels like I’m aging out of my lifetime favorite hobby. Time to find new things to care about in between the long droughts of high tier titles I remember all 3 major console manufacturers (4 if we’re including Sega) making for us to enjoy. The 3rd party stuff were always the side dishes for me compared to many of the big amazing 1st party IPs we came to know each company for. Sony and Nintendo seem like the only ones truly still running with t...

Elden Ring is overrated. 80hrs in and I’m convinced it has no meaningful story, and the atmosphere is less then half as interesting as Bloodborne. Classic case of more is not always better IMO. 100hrs+ does not make a game great. And the up-rezzed game you speak of isn’t just any ol’ game. It’s literally one of the GOATs, and your making your final judgment on the upgrades coming without playing it. Smarter AI, 3D audio, dualsense features on top of graphical work done. Were people really exp...

Outside of a PROPER DLC, anyone paying additional money to add anything to a game that can’t be reasonably earned only support games being further and further parted out, charged for, and encourage more and more dev teams to drip feed us as opposed to delivering truly great games with high quality assurance. Season passes, free-to-play, and MT’s can all eat my shorts.

How’s $35 for a single plane “Nice”? Supporting crap like this will only see games further pieced apart more and more. Sounds great 👍🏼 👍🏼

And you don’t think Sony hasn’t had a big hand in SE’s growth for over the last 20 years? If Sony does acquire them(which I don’t personally care for SE games mostly) I wouldn’t call it inorganic. Just like Insomniac, it would be a close partnership many years in the making.

There really hasn’t been a good reason since launch this gen. Every game runs just fine on my pc or Xbox one x. Zero next-gen only games equals zero reasons to really get one so far. Unless back compat is the reason anyone buys a new system for. Can’t believe this much gas-lighting has helped them sell their new consoles so well so far.

Agreed. I personally enjoyed Demon Souls much more then the Dark Souls series for whatever reason, and it definitely served as the blueprint for those games and most of Fromsoft’s other IPs to current date. They found their “style” of game making Demon Souls.

Hoping folks don’t sleep on Collisto Protocol. It looks crazy good, and has one of the best directors in the biz getting another proper crack at it, with his own new IP. Visceral deserved better from EA, and I’m pumped to see this guy helming for us a fresh new experience.

So games with a broader appeal are bad? And they should limit their abilities and their art styles based on the companies home country? Hmm,…never thought of it like that.

The proof is still in the games though, and the games even up til recently have continually been bangers. I’ve seen no drop off in quality of Sony AAA SP games in recent years. When I see that dip, I’ll complain about the changes. Otherwise, the way I see it, it’s just been full steam ahead since PS4 years, while also trying new things along the way, like VR, and now new monitors and headset lines, and system plates…I think they’re not given enough credit for generally supporting all aspects...

Maybe for GOTY awards, but just because it’s not going to sell more then some others doesn’t mean a game shouldn’t exist/release. We could say goodbye to a lot of games if that were the case. That said, 2023 does look packed with heavy hitters.
