I played the closed beta and a little of the open beta. I am on the fence. I will wait and see some streams and hear from other friends who pre-purchased before I make a decision. I don't rely upon reviews from the big sites. They are clearly under pressure from publishers to spin positive press as they derive revenue from them in advertising. Rare to see a big budget title from a major studio/publisher receive less than an 8. My guess is IGN will rate this an 8 or higher. Maybe deserved ...
As the saying goes... jack of all trades master of none.
I wonder though if some sort of docking station is envisioned. Dock which supports external display, BT controllers, etc. So effectively turning the mobile handset into a quasi console. Just a thought.
If indeed Windows Store games are hampered in a way the article states, I for one will avoid Windows Store purchases till those 'limitations' are removed. I will wait and see what happens but I sincerely hope these limitations are not truly the case.
I have also been gaming for 35 years whether it be in arcades, my Atari 2600 / Atari 800 to present day. Although it is true family and work consume a fair amount of my time it is possible to balance them all (generally forgoing sleep). It's good to know there are other 'veteran' gamers out there. In truth when I am playing with or against someone I don't care about their age. As long as I can mute kids dropping F bombs, it makes no difference to me their age. I continue to m...
I'd imagine it's better for MS not XBOX. So since MS owns XBOX I don't see the downside. Avignon the game available on PC takes nothing away from XBOX. Some people don't have or want a pc or some people don't want an XBOX. Why narrow your market for the software sale by making it exclusive if it will not drive sales of the platform. MS makes money on Windows license, MS makes money on Xbox platform sale, MS makes money on game title sale from their store or hard copy sale....
It is my understanding that at least initially the consoles were sold at a loss or near break even. Like your mobile phone, the real money is in services and software sold for the given device(s). Perhaps MS is trying to diversify their brand and focus on the store. They have an XBOX app built into Win10 now. Seems like the approach. MS wants to sell software and services regardless of whether it is on X1 or PC. Why put all your eggs in one basket?
I have a pair of HyperX Cloud 2's. Very well constructed, comfortable, and sound great. Go them last black Friday for a steal.
I pre-loaded the beta on PC this morning. I am hopeful the beta is well done. However I did not pre-order this game as I would like to see / play it myself beforehand. finger crossed.
@Septic Surely as a first gen VR product for the masses I suspect PSVR will not be perfect. That seems logical. However, judging by other people's first hand accounts of the experience with it, it sounds very promising. But naturally next gen will probably be even better.
Although a remaster might be nice, it does play pretty well on X1 backwards compatibility. And being free in several countries is a nice touch.
I truly want this game to be amazing but I am very skeptical of Ubisoft. I will not purchase day 1 but rather watch some streams and seek input from friends who have it before I buy. I won't bother with review sites as they will surely give it 8 of 10 or better regardless of actual content and gameplay. The large reviw sites are hard to trust. But I am cautiously optimistic nonetheless. Very disappointing they removed an area of the map before launch.
And I was looking forward to The Division but this leaves me with a bad feeling. I dislike in game transactions.
I don't generally trust 'reviews' by many sites such as IGN or others. Remember that these sites derive revenue from advertisements by publishers. Gaming websites do not want to risk biting the hand that feeds them. So take that into consideration when reading reviews. It's an example why magazines like Consumer Reports do not have paid advertising....
21st century problems. ;) But I can see if one is on a slower internet connection this is a pain. I am fortunate to have fiber.
I agree @Khaotic. Piracy is not the solution. The only viable option for a consumer is not buy the product if you believe the price is unfairly high. I suspect prices for new console games at retail outlets is going to rise in the US soon too. It is very infrequent that I buy games at full retail price. Most often I wait months till the price drops.
1080P HD sets were much more expensive when first released. I paid over $4000 way back for a 50" Sony. Prices drop over time especially in the electronics business. I think it will be the software which determines market share as well. As my focus is gaming for VR I suspect I will look into a PSVR first. But I won't rule out the Oculus based on price alone if the software is very good.
Have to agree that good quality costs money. You don't have the money or think it is too expensive then don't buy it. Everyone always thinks everything should be $299 (US). Perhaps price will drop someday when a new model releases but for that price it is expected that early adopters pay more.
People are paying $150 (US) for an X1 controller. People are also paying hundreds for premium headsets. I think early adopters will also pay $400 for PSVR. But the long term success really rests on the software and actual user experience. I am interested but don't consider myself an early adopter. Maybe in 6 months after release of the tech. Early adopters always pay more and over time the price drops. I think Sony could do very well with sales of the device.
Agreed. It was just a simple tweet. It's the headline which is somewhat excessive. I myself don't need to see much of the game beforehand. I don't need the marketing teasers to look forward to playing it.
This is great news. Looking forward to my PSVR.
