Does anyone recall that MS was forced by the DOJ to change policies due to anti-competitive behavior with Windows? That was not very long ago. Tim Sweeney is correct in that UWP is a very slippery slope. I hope that perhaps this will propel the adoption of SteamOS or something similar. I have no issues with Windows if it remains open but I have no trust of MS's business practices.
But the interesting picture not told by sales is how many of the X1S sold are people 'upgrading' from their orig X1 or are new sales. I suspect a fair number of the sales are not new X1 owners but existing customer base.
I can see why perhaps MS announced Scorpio so soon. They knew the hardware sales numbers were declining rapidly and hope by announcing so early to stem that tide.
I agree it won't set any console records but I'll bet it sells reasonably well even at $60. But if not perhaps the price will drop quickly.
So the marketplace will send the message loud and clear if many people agree with you. It is not necessary to buy it. If it doesn't sell well then Bethesda will know they set the price too high. Although, I am guessing it will sell reasonably well for them. I'd love to play it on my PS4 but won't spend $60 on it. But I also play on PC so really no big deal for me.
With the demise of N-Space, I wish Digital Extremes would continue development of this title. Perhaps continue making improvements or just release mod support so the community can enhance the game. RoD does have some nice improvements.
I agree with your assessment. I read the entire article. His concerns seem valid to me. It's the sheeple who enable business practices like MS and others to create walls which eventually lead to fewer choices. Sure MS is a talented company but 'some' of their tactics with Win 10 can surely be considered restrictive. If anyone reads the article he basically states that some tweaks in their business decisions would be beneficial.
MS apparently wants to transform XBox from just known as console into a platform. So games could still be XBox exclusive if it is considered as a software platform not just the console hardware itself. Have no idea if this strategy will work but sure is interesting.
I also played on PS3 originally. It was a bit painful due to bugs and slow release of expansions on PS3. Since then I played modded on PC and it was a much better experience. I expect you will love the game on PS4.
Nearly every game published is for money. If you are meaning greed then I have to disagree with the sentiment. No console consumer is required or forced to purchase the game. Although do I think it would be worth a full retail price? For me it is not. However other's who may have never played the game it may well be worth full retail. I still play modded Skyrim on PC so I will get the game free. Although I do think this was a convenient option to sell since they had done some of the work...
I will bet that their 40% calculation includes the size of the orig X1 with the external power brick not just the enclosure itself. So 40% may be accurate if you include their enormous power brick on the X1. But still the graphic is misleading.
Not true. Be brave. The UK will be just fine.
The U.K. will be just fine. I have no doubt about that.
"and only released because so much time and money has been invested in it that it would be a waste not to..
Yes I agree this is possibly what happened if the game turns out poorly. Hopefully not though. But I am reminded of the saying "Don't throw good money after bad". I have to imagine if it was really poor Sony would have pulled the plug on it.
Although I really love Bethesda games, it is so disappointing that they cannot get things right out the gate ever. Always some snafu. Amateur hour sometimes there.
Unless Scorpio is modular then I will stick my gaming pc. Not stuck with one company store front for purchases either. PC is just more versatile still in the end.
Sony never confirmed specs of Neo for one. That was all press rumor. But regardless, it is a sure fire bet Sony will adjust specs if necessary. I think it is wishful thinking on X1 fanboys part that the tables are reversed. Given the time and lack of official reveal / timeframe for Neo, Sony will adjust as necessary.
If both Sony and MS are successful with new console re-specs I imagine the days of 7-8 year HW cycles is over. 3 years will be the new norm perhaps. We'll see. However, since I also have a gaming pc I don't think I will need a reason to own Scorpio if the 'exclusive' games are all on Win10 as well. Too early to say but perhaps just need my pc and a PS4 Neo.
I have to imagine it will be $499. Would be surprised if less. Only time will tell. I like the new X1 slim form factor with built in power. Probably won't get one though. I imagine Sony specs for PS4 Neo will change somewhat before official reveal which is smart. At the end of all this I expect both consoles to be more similar in terms of performance than before. Both will be 4K capable and have VR. I will continue to own both most likely. Although my purchases for titles have been almost...
