I hate how fanboys and such will justify that crap by calling everyone "brokies" or "broke Boys" when they either rufuse to pay that price or can't afford to even if they wanted to, the corporate boot licking is really sickening. If only everyone would show a bit more solidarity and not tolerate these prices by not buying them until they price them more reasonably.
I fully expect Nividia to gimp the 80 card again by not giving it enough VRAM so that you'd have to upgrade sooner than later. Thus making the 5070TI/5090 the better deal in the long run, they really like to gimp certain cards in the stack by purposely limiting the amount of VRAM.
That 4080 Super should last you a long time, I'm still holding onto my 1080TI, I'm tempted to upgrade to a 5000 series, but I'll probably wait till 6000 now, I'm going to run that 1080TI into the ground at this rate. I also agree that 4 years is a good life span for a GPU, but you could push it to last as long as a console generation and then upgrade.
People always exaggerate how often you need to upgrade PC parts, but a decent to high-end build should last ...

I don't know why you got so many downvotes, you're more or less right, PC and Nintendo pretty much give you access to 95% of games out there, more if you're willing to emulate.

A 1080 Ti trades blows with a PS5, and that's a 7-year-old GPU now, I don't think it's that hard to find a newer GPU that would easily best it, you don't even need an 80-tier GPU. A 4060 TI 16GB is easily enough to beat a PS5 by a noti...

The reason Nvidia cards are so badly gimped below the 90 cards is because they refuse to put a decent amount of VRAM on there, so you have to upgrade sooner, rather than later. That's why the 90 cards are generally the best deal, they come with a decent amount of VRAM, any cards below that, and it's probably a better idea to consider the AMD/Intel equivelents instead.
Modern consoles can barely manage to get above 4K 60fps at best, you have to make trade-offs if you want the Switch to be a handheld as well. Personally, I'm fine with 1440p 60fps, but I'm pretty sure the Switch will use DLSS or some sort of frame gen to get some form of 4k with decent frame rates.
Is this your way of saying the PS5 and Series X has been a good generation? I really think this has been the weakest generation for Playstation, and Xbox hasn't had a good generation since the 360. I'm pretty sure most adult gamers would agree this has been a pretty weak period for gaming overall.
Personally I moved onto PC after seeing what happened to Playstation, the Switch is easily the best console of this gen though if we're looking at game libraries.

I really do think they've got Mario Kart 9 ready to go, they've just been saving it for the new Switch, I wouldn't be surprised if it released with it.
The majority of today's games are disappointing, it's actually more surprising to have a great game come out because we have so many AAA flops. Sure there are enough games to play for the year, especially if you dig into your backlog or play indies and AA games, but I don't think most people will look back at this console generation fondly (unless you own a Switch), nor do I think they'll remember 2024 as a good year for gaming.
I hope this doesn't suck, they haven't had a good run with Muv-Luv games outside the main visual novels.

I'm not buying another subscription, I have 3 or 4 as it is (Playstation, Netflix/Disney, Amazon), I am not adding a 5th one to the mix. This is why I also moved away from a lot of software that adopted subscription models instead of allowing me to buy the product outright. I'm still salty about Clip Studio, I paid for a forever license, now they took that away in favor of subscriptions.

I would say the difference is pretty negligible, but developers used to be able to do some pretty crazy things when they were working within the limitations of older consoles (It's amazing BotW/ToTTK functions as well as it does on the Switch). Considering newer consoles are closer to PCs than they've ever been, I'd say the difference is even more negligible than previous generations.

The only one making money on hardware is Nintendo, but they build with older, weaker hardware, it works for them, because their exclusives do most of the heavy lifting, plus they also go in a different direction to Playstation/Xbox.
I wish I had grabbed the fat PS3, I still have a decent collection of PS1/PS2 games, my PS1 is dead, and one of my PS2s are dead, hopefully the other PS2 doesn't breakdown, otherwise I might have to learn how to fix PS2s.
