Ok, Microsoft said that by pre-ordering an XB1 game digitally, you get the PC game for free.
I'm still trying to figure out how this will work for 3rd party because it seems like someone will be losing.
@ castillo
Because the PS4 was designed powerful enough to handle it from the start. The Xbox wasn't. Sony already knew how they were going to implement it into the console when they first engineered it. Its not as simple as pluging a VR headset into a console like it is a PC. It has to be built to hamdle the workload or you're going ti end up with a VERY expensive peripheral
@ castillo
The fact that Microsoft doesn't even have a HMD, puts them at a disadvantage. How long do you think it'll take them to release one, let alone support enough games before the generation is over with? Preparation takes a minimum of a year, and that's prepping. Let alone launching one. You see how long it took the 360 to respond the Wii (Kinect launched late 2010) or the original Xbox to respond to the PS2 (PS2 launched in 1999 Japan while Xbox was late 20...
Microsoft is not anticipating a VR headset because they don't have one to present. They don't have one to present because they never prepared for one. Simple. Its not rocket science. They were banking on VR getting about as much attention as motion controls, so they put all their eggs in AR/Hololens just like they did with HD DVD to BluRay. They didn't see it as a serious war to get into until everyone started jumping in it. Then they realized they had made a mistake but it was to...
Or rather Sony covering all bases while they prepare to drop bombs that Microsoft will not have to counter them back.
Mac and PC remote play? Wow....
Its like every major answer Microsoft makes to get ahead, it seems Sony is right there to take the wind out of their sail.
What about those pallets of PS4 pics? They were real quick to post those and talk about how much they were selling then until they found that it didn't make a difference. Now all of a sudden they are being modest with logins being more important. What it basically comes down to is them getting the tar kicked out of them to a point where they have to eat their words.
@ DarkOcelet
It never was. Like Kinect, people just hyped the hell out of it because Sony had VR, and Microsoft needed a way to respond.
Two different packages: a bundled VR headset with camera+game (probably headphones too) and then the standalone unit, which is the headset by itself. I'm betting that headset is $250.
Sony is going to blow the doors off the competition.
Stupid article
How about both? https://youtu.be/Jk3bjwazHs...
If Sony owns the technology, nothing is stopping them from using it in the future. I mean this dude act like Tobii just came along and revolutionized something. Before Tobii even had this, Sony not only showed this off a full year ahead of them, but they were also talking about it becoming a game changer for VR at one of their conferences....
They'll announce it at GDC. June seems to be the launch date but it could very well be April. The "first half of 2016" remember?
Sony announced 35.9 million jan 3rd. That means Microsoft was 19.2 and Sony 35.7 Dec 31st 2015. Microsoft averages ~10 million a year with the holidays being their biggest month, that's about 9.5 million a year, 1.5 million in November and another 1.5 million in December. So without any exclusives, they are probably averaging around 650,000k to 700,000k a month. In 45 days, Sony was able to sell through 5.7 million units to consumers. There's no stretch to say they probably sold about...
But VR is a gimmick. LoL
Apple has jumped aboard,Disney, Now Google, Samsung.
Sony bet right on when they chose VR.
Of course its not. Those are just peanuts. I remember having this and I think I used it like 3 to 5 times until the current generation library got robust enough, and then I never used it again.
I just thought about this but by these being last years figures and EA announcing 55 million units out in the wild at the end of 2015 for both the PS4 and the XB1, I wonder were they only applying that to SOLD THROUGH or shipped numbers. If its the latter, then Microsoft is in much worst shape than I originally thought.
55 - 35.9 or 55 - 37.7
O_O
But Sony is in more regions. Just wait till Microsoft launches there.
Yeah right.... Waiting and still waiting.
Like I said, this war is over and Microsoft knows it. There is absolutely no way they are going to catch Sony this gen. But you knows what's worse? These are LAST years numbers and Sony still hasn't hit Microsoft with their first party yet, let us not even get on VR, which seems to be loaded with exclusives just because its VR. This is no lo...
I doubt Hololens will make any relevant impact this gen. It doesn't even have developers let alone games.
No one is on board of this except Microsoft. All the big players are looking at VR as the next shift in entertainment.
Oh J. Allard at it again. I remember he kept going on and on about the HD era being thw 360s advantage until the PS3 ended up with BluRay. LoL! Since they didn't have a BluRay while trying to make everything digital, he tried to stall BluRay from succeeding by launching an add-on HD DVD player to keep both formats in limbo. What good that did. LoL!
HE's a tool.
@ wonderfulmonkeyman
You never used VR. It is so obvious from your response and description of it.
And unlike a simple controller to which you've experienced with traditional game play, one affects the user quite different from the other.
Exactly! I couldn't have said it better. People setting there disagreeing know its true.
