So because he got lucky and made one hugely successful game, he can basically forget making anything else because it'll never live up to people's expectations. That doesn't strike me as an attitude that will get you very far in life. As long as he keeps his own expectations on how well the game will sell at a reasonable level, so that the development costs are less than the income from sales, everything will be fine.

It's either take the risk and make somethin...

It looks too distorted. I fear it would either make me sick or give me a headache... and if not, those black borders would drive me crazy.

$499 is still quite a bit more than I would like to spend on a GPU and considering that I only game on a single 1680x1050 display, it would frankly be overkill for what I need. The 660/660ti/670 is what I'm planning on. Which one I end up with is going to depend on price vs performance vs what I see myself needing over the next 2 years.

Making an Elder Scrolls MMO and do it the justice it deserves would be extremely difficult at best... and that's before we even take Bethesda's abysmal track record of buggy releases into account.

I don't think they can pull it off and we don't need another half baked WoW clone that lasts a month or two before people jump ship, do we?

Seriously. I love WoW for what it is, but I don't want to play another WoW. I got WoW for just that, see? ...

For me? Digital hands down. I have too much stuff, live in a small apartment and got a fast Internet connection. I don't care much about the box and the weak excuse that passes for a manual these days. It's just more stuff that I need to store somewhere until I eventually toss it. I also enjoy the convenience of downloading a digital copy at any time I feel like it. Game stores aren't open 24/7 (at least where I live) and if it's not a huge or slow download, it usually takes m...

Well, that's good news. I'm looking for a replacement for my 460 which has a 170W TDP. 300W would mean a whole new power supply and since the 580 is some 250W TDP, I was concerned that there would be a huge increase in overall wattage across the whole line.

My PSU is 650W, so not a whole lot of power to spare considering that I'm running an I5-2500K at 1.47V with a truckload of fans and drives. Would suck having to get a new PSU just to stick in a 660 which is wha...

Looks good, but if the 300 Watt TDP turns out to be true, then that thing ain't going into my computer.

Free upgrade to Cataclysm and free lvl 80... way to piss on those who paid for the expansion and worked their way up the levels. What's even more sad is that one of the reasons they did the whole Cataclysm thing was to recreate the whole level 1-60 experience. Guess that counts for nothing these days huh? Or is it because people get stuck at lvl 60-80 while going through old content? I don't consider myself a Blizzard hater. Heck, I've defended Blizzard in the past... but this... ...

Damn impressive boost considering that we're just talking software optimization here.

I've been using nVidia ever since I replaced my Voodoo card with a GeForce 256 back in the day.

I've come close to switching sides a couple of times, but it has always come down to ATI's abysmal driver support which has kept me from doing just that.

It's a shame because I do feel ATI delivers in terms of hardware, but all the horror stori...

An I7-2600 strikes me as an odd choice for a gaming rig. You'd be much better off getting an I5-2500K paired with a nice big chunk'o'metal, aka CPU cooler, like the Noctua NH-D14 and then overclock it to hell. Getting 4.5GHz shouldn't be hard on even a fairly mediocre CPU. Get a good CPU and you hit 5GHz easily. Mine is on the bad side, so I only reach 4.8 at some 1.47 volts, but temps are still fine and it's stable.

I'm sure this is going to be one heck of a better experience to the newcomers than Flight Simulator X (FSX). Just getting FSX to run decently on a mid-range system requires a lot of computer knowledge and patience.

Having said that, I think most of the hardcore crowd is going to play around with it a bit (since it's a free download anyway), then leave it in the dust. Problem is, even if it does have some hardcore aspects, it's just so limited in scope compared to ...

There are top-end systems and then there are over the top systems. That system in the article is a perfect example of going over the top.

If I had that much money to blow, I'd spend it more wisely and still end up with a kick-ass system, a nice long vacation at some exotic location, a cool watch to show off and more mayonnaise than I can hope to use before the expiration date is up. I'd skip the car though. No need for that where I live.

The community reason is the one that does it for me. If the developers are cool, active within the community, listen to the players and generally seem to care about their product and the people playing it, I just cannot get myself to pirate their game. Taking something from people you feel you know is a lot more difficult than taking something from a faceless corporation that just seems to be out to milk you.

Complicated?

Come on...

My 65 year old mother has been a PC gamer since 1997 and she's no geek. Things were a lot more complicated back then, but if she could do it, surely you can as well? Especially these days where things are plug'n'play for the most part and all you need to do when things aren't, is to do a Google search or visit a forum.

I feel sorry for those who lost their job. That sucks.

I'm not in favor of piracy in any way, so please don't get me wrong, but I think it's foolish to point the finger at piracy and blame that alone for all your hardship. If you make a good game, then people -will- buy it. If you keep improving on your game after release, then it'll -keep- selling. You don't need to look far to see examples of that.

Also, don't blame lack of DRM. DRM ...
