I think I figured out what Boz's problem was: he probably went to customize his controls and maxed everything out. That is the only way to get your cursor so twitchy that you have skips/drops.
You honestly couldn't make your controls THAT touchy in Conduit, so in some respects, this game has a higher ceiling for control responsiveness. It's also something that probably shouldn't have been included, because it's nearly unusable (much like having a motorcycle that'll go 220 mph)....
According to the boards at IGN, there's someone who goes by the screen name fyzxwhyz who is a Treyarch dev who frequents neogaf. And this is what he had to say:
"The comments in the IGN review about the cursor not being responsive are baffling. The low-level input filtering (the part of the code that affects the raw cursor response) is 100% identical to WAW. If the reviewer doesn't like the way it feels, that's one thing, but if he's saying its a step back from WAW, then so...
Yep. Cassamania was/is a HVS fanboy, but I at least thought his Conduit review was fair (if a tad bit too high).
I just went back to play COD for a minute doing the test offered by Boz -- aim in COD4, then press the home button and aim around. I'm not having the problem he described.
Opinions are one thing. Preferring a certain genre or art style over another is, of course, valid.
But claiming a game is broken when it isn't? That's just lying.
Well...Bozon must be playing a different game than everyone else.
http://wii.ign.com/articles...
I just am not finding the problems he did with control. I move the remote, the gun moves. I shrink the bounding box, aiming tightens up.
And all of the stuff Conduit (which I loved) failed at -- setting up quick matches, being as lag free as possible, variety of maps, invulnerability ...
This review really makes me lose a lot of trust in IGN. Their Nintendo team has usually been relatively fair.
I could deal with Bozon complaining about the visuals, because he's been playing MW2 and reviewing that.
But the controls? Are you kidding me? And tying that to framerate issues that no one else is having?
Pretty funny that an online-centric game that operates with no lag and has huge maps gets a lower rating than one with significantly more l...
Conduit's character and gun models looked better, and there was some nice bloom thrown in throughout. But really, that's about it.
The environments are much bigger in COD, especially the online maps. And the art style is much more varied.
And the controls equal Conduit's. Easily. If Bozon is screwing up, it's on him. Not the setup.
I have no idea what is up with Boz, but this review is incredibly inaccurate.
No, they didn't review this one fair at all. I just got done with a few hours online. The visuals are NOT any worse than W@W. And the controls are just as good as Conduit.
It's also got a far superior online compared to Conduit (its main competitor on Wii). You don't spawn in walls or off the map, or wait 8 minutes to connect, find a match and load it. Yet that game scored higher.
Makes no sense.
Last time I did it was for Metroid Prime 3. Good times.
morganfell -- Care to give your own estimates? 'Cause VGC isn't too far off from other estimates:

VGC doesn't ever nail sales numbers. They give ballpark estimates. Usually, they're in the ballpark. Sometimes they aren't.
"Gone are the next-generation, high definition polished graphics, replaced with loading screens and awkward controllers."
----------------
Of course the graphics will be lower res and you'll get a few loading screens. Duh.
The "awkward controller" thing is laughable, IMO. Put your hands in your lap like normal, or use an arm rest on your couch. The only thing that would be "awkward" is if you're standing with your arms pointing ...
I agree with Product. Nintendo wasn't in danger of going all Sega on us. They have a firm base of titles that a certain number of people buy their consoles for. They could've done exactly what Sony and Microsoft did, ended up in third place again, and still would've survived.
What I find funny are the people who choose to get pissed now at Nintendo for stuff that they've always done.
There are always big delays in Zelda games (and a LoZ release is always a rare occurrenc...
Yeah, I've seen a few comments basically saying "WTF, Boz?"
I'm watching some online matches on youtube. I think the turning speed may be a hair slower in COD, but if that's adjustable, it's probably just the person playing the game.
Plus, COD has traditionally rewarded players for precise aiming through gun sights/scope, and the turning on that is bound to be slower than free aiming with a sub-machine gun.
I saw this yesterday. The most important thing are the controls, and this quote -- "In fact, due to the Wii Remote controls, the game works even better and beats even The Conduit’s controls." -- is in agreements with other reviews I've read. Except for IGN's first take:
http://wii.ign.com/articles...
The only thing that kept me from pulling the trigger on this one were the controls. IGN mentioned some framerate and aiming problems:
http://wii.ign.com/articles...
But they're the only ones I've seen mention this problem. I think Bozon might be letting his HVS fanboyism get in the way.
If the controls are spot on, and if this has the best online (it usually takes me 5 minutes to...
"I readied myself for whatever the title's huge and beautiful world had to offer. And that's when the realisation began - the trailers had been lying to me.
"The game's world is undoubtedly huge - the small portion I played in is but a fraction of the overall map, but I could see for what looked like miles towards a distant horizon, where a ginormous herd of dinosaur-looking beasties were on the move. Brilliant, except to get there, you have to go through several loadin...
Thanks for taking the time to type that. : )
I think Bozon might be letting MW2 (and maybe a bias toward HVS) color his opinion with this game. No one else has mentioned bad framerate problems or control issues in the reader comments I've looked through (yours included).
tunaks1 -- Thanks for the info. If you don't mind, though...one more question: how are the customizable controls?
I had thought this would be a grand slam thing, but IGN doesn't agree:
http://wii.ign.com/articles...
Have you had any touble?
You're absolutely right with Conduit...if IGN hadn't hyped that game to high hell, people probably would've been blown away by the tech in it. Instead, they saw a game that didn't look like a 360 launch title and were disappointed. The drab art style didn't help, but the character/enemy models looked great, the guns were fantastic and the shooting effects were very sharp on the Trust/Drudge weapons.
MW has a better art style, the enemy AI looks to be much better and the online ...
That's what I expected. Conduit was a ground-up offering. This is a port (of a port, really, as the original HD versions couldn't stand up to the PC version, either). Of COURSE a port won't look as good as a game built just for one system. This statement from the review makes no sense:
"Given the extra two years Treyarch had to squeeze every last drop of polish from the Wii, this is underwhelming visually. It looks okay for a Wii game - that's the dreaded caveat - but it...
For all that were wishing for new Nintendo IP, this is cool.
...if we get a US/EU release, of course.
