I think that quote kinda misses what was actually said in the article:
----------
"We are not too much concerned about if the technology itself is the state-of-the-art or rather old-fashioned. If we can find out the most appropriate medium, between SD and HD, and flexibly move around them depending on the game's contents, it will be good, I think."

That doesn't look like Takeda said "in between" SD and HD. It looks like he'...
Mastiff -- I'd love to see Zelda, too...but more and more, it seems like it'll be another dual release. And from a business perspective, it's hard to argue with it. LoZ is Nintendo's most loved core franchise, and launching it with a new console works well.
As a fan, I'd love to see it as a holiday release next year, but I'm honestly not too worried about it. I love eye candy, but Zelda is about adventure and gameplay, which don't rely on high def.
The wild card i...
The way this is phrased makes it sound like just hot rodding the Wii to make it capable of outputting in HD. If Nintendo releases some sort of add-on for HD, it would be useless. The console is plenty capable of making good looking games in 480P like Corruption and Galaxy and Tri. And high-def isn't needed for Wii Sports or Wii Fit.
HD without a commensurate hardware bump in everything else wouldn't be Earth shattering.
Nintendo will simply need a new console alto...
Depends on the game.
TW10? Plays best on Wii.
Madden? Either 360 or PS3.
Pro Evo Soccer? Wii.
NBA 2K or Live? 360 or PS3.
I completely agree here.
Rail shooters are a niche genre. Nothing against those that love 'em and will pay full price for 'em, but I won't. They just aren't that good a value.
I mean, I sunk 70 hours into Zelda...that's what, $0.71 cents an hour?
6 hours in Extraction works out to $8.33 an hour. With no replay factor for me.
I bought Conduit for the multiplayer, which adds dozens of hours and makes a FPS with a short campaign worth it. <...
OK, that looked a LOT better than one of the other clips. I'm not talking about graphics (because some of the textures still look blah, but that could partly be the video), I'm talking about just how smooth the game controlled.
One of the earlier vids was from a tutorial section, and it just seemed very...twitchy. The controls here look as smooth as Corruption and Conduit.
I doubt we'll see it in 2010.
Keep in mind, Zelda is Nintendo's biggest gun. They try not to fire it that often; Twilight Princess was a GC port, so we haven't even seen a true Wii Zelda yet.
Once the next LoZ drops, it's likely to be the last big Wii game. I could see Nintendo delaying it for that very reason. If they can push it off until 2011, then they could release it alongside a new console, just like they did with TP.
According to EA, Wii game development costs 25%-33% as much as PS3/360 game development.

The prices for HD hardware is coming down; HDTV's cost less to manufacture and the PS3 costs less to produce.
But the price for game development hasn't gone down in the same way. HD games require more people to be employed ...
That's what I'm hoping for. Hopefully this releases around March or so (when Brawl was released in '08). But the last Galaxy game was a holiday release.
...so if SMG2 comes out earlier in the year, what takes its place as Nintendo's core holiday title? Other M?
It's a safe bet that Mario will outsell COD in the long run. I think that's a given.
But by the end of January? I don't think it will. MW2 will have a very big launch. I'm not sure NSMB can catch it in two months.
That's the thing...MW2 will launch HUGE.
NSMB will sell more consistently for a longer period of time. I have no doubt it will end up selling more than COD. But it's probably going to take awhile to catch up.
Yeah, a six-hour long rail shooter without much replay incentive simply isn't worth $50. Core gamers will wait for a price drop, and more casual gamers trust a more established IP like HotD or RE's "Chronicle" games.
Hopefully Silent Hill sells well enough to show people that if you put in the effort, the market is there.
For Reggie, though...eh. He's probably frustrated, as are most in Nintendo, that third parties have offered so much shovelware. When g...
Destroyman is back? And is a cyborg? TWO cyborgs? Awesome sauce.
Chu -- Grow up with the trolling comments, man. Each console has strengths, and each console has weaknesses.
I prefer customizable IR/pointer controls over dual analog for FPS any day; they are far faster and more precise. The only game on the Wii that has them so far -- plus a decent online component -- is Conduit. This COD4 port could end up being the best-controlling version of the game. To me, that matters.
That said...my expectations are being lowered by the...
Some parts look better than others (however, some of that could just be the quality of the clip).
But it also looks kinda herky-jerky and twitchy in places. THAT worries me more than any graphical issues.
The pictures look like bad-quality cell phone pics.
And the video has already been yanked. WTF, Activision? Throw us a bone, here!
"In Japan, this service requires monthly payments, but as of now, the American side of Capcom has not made a decision. One reason they can do this in Japan is due to the popularity of the series–people would probably pay way more than Capcom charges to get their hands on it–but that may not fly over here, considering it’s just not as popular. Regardless, the game will be on Capcom’s own servers, and will not require Friend Codes. It’s much more like playing an online game on the Playstat...
Yup.
When the Wii released, the cost for HD tech was prohibitively high.
But now, you can't even find an SDTV at Wal-Mart. The cost of producing an HD set has come so far down that old tube-type televisions will be obsolete in the very near future.
Likewise, HD hardware for a gaming console has come down in price, too, so it's only a matter of time before Nintendo releases an HD console.
I wouldn't be surprised for them to sneak a new conso...
SL1M -- I think Nintendo HAS made some fantastic games already on Wii -- Galaxy, LoZ:TP, SSBB, Corruption, Battalion Wars II, Fire Emblem, both Excite racers, Punch Out, Paper Mario, Warioland, Kart, etc.
None of those are shovelware. Not one.
As for new IP...Battalion Wars first appeared on GC. It's a pretty new franchise. Same with Pikmin, which should show up on Wii soon.
I'd like to see new IP, too, but Nintendo has more core franchises than they ...
Mastiff -- Diff'rent strokes, I guess. Because I'm super excited for Other M. It's the first Metroid of its kind since 1994.
With Zelda...yeah, I'm peeved at the wait, too. But this isn't new. This is what Nintendo does. There was a 7-year wait between A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. The wait wasn't that long between Majora's Mask and Windwaker, but MM was basically an OoT expansion pack (a damn good one), not a whole new game.
Zelda doesn't get rushed ...
