It's hard to top the game that sent the series into 3D. That one will always hold a special place for long-time fans. Mario 64, OoT, GTA3, Metroid Prime...you can only make the leap to 3D once.*

But Nintendo can do it. They just did it two years ago with Galaxy, which IMO is the best 3D Mario yet.

(*With Metroid, it's a bit different. We ARE going to get a proper third-person view in the next one, so in a way, it's the first "traditional" 3D Metroid.)

Trashing MM or TP isn't too constructive, IMO. They both have the best stories of any games in the LoZ series (and yes, they're both the darkest).

TP gets a lot of hate, but I don't quite understand why. It WAS a bit overrated with the scores it got, but it was still a good game. And Midna was the LEAST annoying sidekick in any 3D LoZ so far.

Just my $0.02.

dchalfont -- I agree with you that GTA IV was in some ways a step back from the previous games, but that's also not the one I was comparing Majora's Mask to. MM was basically an expansion pack of OoT: the same game engine, but improved graphics and a different story. In that respect, Vice City and San Andreas would be the GTA games that would be in direct comparison.

And as great as both of those games are (they're both better than GTA3, IMO), in "best of" lists, you'...

Majora's Mask faced the same problem all GTA's have now faced since GTA3 -- it's hard to follow up the game that jumped the series into 3D.

I know that she got a lot of crap for the Nintendo minute thing she did on IGN, but not revealing big secrets and talking in marketing speak was her job.

I'd like voice chat, too, but for the most part, I agree with oobob.

By far, I hear more homophobic/sophomoric taunting than anything else online, not strategy.

If you're sniping, put claymores around your doors.

If you're moving around, don't be a lone run 'n gunner. Stay in pairs (or more) and make sure there's someone else to help you check corners. Staying in teams also lets you know where C4 gets planted.

Sorry Arius, thought I sent that to you. I'll PM it now.

Y'gotta learn how to camp out in this game. Run 'n gun will get you killed (unless you're a 40 rank playing a 10). Being methodical in your movements is key. If you haven't tightened up your ADS camera speed, I definitely recommend it. I only shoot from the hip now if I can't avoid it.

Well, seeing as Fallout 3 already got a release date, I suppose the next Zelda could learn how to get one of those...

Valay -- I agree. LoZ:TP is easily still one of my favorite games.

Mastiff -- Sadly, I don't think there's any way around Nintendo following the same Zelda strategy they used with Twilight Princess. It's there biggest gun, and using it as a launch title is a killer sales strategy. It's pretty much THE exclusive killer app any company could have.
That pisses me off as a gamer, because I want Zelda NOW. But I don't think we'll see it 'til 2011. We'll get Other M, SMG2, Si...

Gee, would you look at that -- someone that actually spent time with the game to review it, instead of rushing something out a day after they received it (coughBozonIGNcough).

This and the 1UP review are dead on. COD4 was a great game in 2007, and it's still a great game on the Wii now, because greatness shines through, even if the visuals are a bit muddier.

It sold about 400,000 copies and was profitable enough to get a sequel. That's hardly pathetic. It's a niche/cult game that had absolutely no marketing and sold on word of mouth alone. Compare the numbers NMH did do Suda's other games. It's not like Killer 7 made any impact (although I love that game). Not every game can sell like Halo.

Seriously. When Boz takes his time with a title and doesn't rush through it, he writes like an actual gaming journalist instead of (surprise) someone rushing through a game. Who'd of thunk it? I dig those screen shots, though. I know Tri gets all the love for pushing the Wii, but damn...Square looks like they did their homework, too.

I'm more of a Zelda person, but as this has much more action/adventure in it (I was never a huge fan of turn-based stuff), I'm pretty much sold ...

Tellin' it like it is.

Did you read the IGN hands-on, Spoon?

http://wii.ign.com/articles...

When Boz actually takes his time with something, the writing can be enlightening. But I digress...

This looks like something that might tide me over until Zelda drops.

I'm not sure I totally agree, Pill. I mean, even the original Zelda wasn't the most graphically advanced game of its time. To me, Zelda has always been about exploration and adventure, and that has never changed.

So, I don't think 1080p would make that much of a difference. And the massive open world in Twilight Princess is still bigger than some games on the HD consoles.

It could certainly use some voice acting (but leave Link mute) and an orchestrated soundtrack...

Ahem.

"As Activision seems to be discovering this year with Guitar Hero, there's danger when a title is overexposed with too many iterations. Nonetheless, the publisher has aggressive expansion plans for Call of Duty. Although Infinity Ward and Treyarch have produced sequels in alternating years since 2005, the publisher now has a third development studio working on future versions.

"One person close to the company said it also was considering adapting Call...

Agreed. The controls are the strongest part of the game -- the visuals take a hit, there's no voice chat, there are fewer players in matches.

I think the great controls make up for all of that. You can aim down the scope halfway across the map and quickly take someone out with a headshot -- that's with a light machine gun, not a sniper rifle.

If the controls feel too twitchy, set the bounding box bigger, lower your camera turn speed and lower the cursor sensitivity...

I'm with Scissor. I'd like for as many people to play Suda's games as possible.

Don't really see what the fuss is all about here. PS3/360 owners get a port of a fantastic game. Wii owners get a sequel of said fantastic game.

Everybody wins.

Yup. It's just good, bloody fun to slice someone in half.

And the up/down stance mechanic actually worked REALLY smooth on Wii (and it was sorely under-reported). You could go through the game without much caring about it on the easy difficulty level, but bump it all the way up, and you see how deceptively deep the combat system was.

Zant makes the list? Huh? I thought that was a pretty good battle.

I agree that LoZ:TP would've actually been better overall [spoilers] if he had been made the main antagonist instead of Ganon's puppet, but the actual fight was good, IMO.
