IMO, Metroid is the best 2D game ever made. And it's a strong contender for best game ever made, period.
To some people, that'll seem like hyperbole, but I don't think so. It's just that damn good.
Other M has a LOT to live up to.
Gee Capcom...were you guys storing up your stable of "win" games for 2010 or what?
First this, then MH:Tri in about two months?
I didn't know you had it in you.
...
...?
The N4G score attributes a perfect score for this game via Gamepro, but the link says 4 out of 5 (at least as I'm typing this).
Good score, regardless. However, I disagree with this part of the review:
"You can use the Classic Controller, a GameCube controller or a Wii/Gamecube joystick for 'tournament standard' controls seen in other 2D fighters, but these options require an additional purchase and will really only make sense to gamers who pl...
Yeah, this game is probably going to steal waaaaaay too many hours of my life.
As much as I'd like to play it, I don't think we'll see Dynamic Slash in EU/NA.
Hadn't heard of Samurai Warriors 3 before. That looks like it could be nice ('specially with some love from Shigy).
It's a stacked year on Wii. This list doesn't even include NMH2.
The last CC seems to be a love it or hate it game; after spending so many years in development, it became a jack of all trades and master of none. It got saddled with an unfortunate release date, to boot. It'll be too bad if Square cans it because they couldn't quite figure out what they wanted to do on Wii.
Geez. I thought Reggie might've opened himself up for embarrassment, too. But he was right.
darkride66 -- You're over-thinking this, amigo. Look at the sales of other PSP GTA games like Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories. Then compare them to Chinatown Wars.
So after all of those negative editorials, IGN gives two very high scores and editor's choice awards to two badass games.
2010 is sure starting off with a bang on Wii.
Yeah...I mean, it's got an online mode. And the classic controller is very comfortable, as Arius said. And you can always get something like this instead, anyway:

8.8 is still a good score. Bozon seems to be tougher on games than Cassamania.
But I really wish they'd get their crap together for some sort of standards for IGN. When we see a review, we don't say "oh, that's Boz's review" or "that's Matt's review." We say it's an IGN review. Just look at the title of this thread.
By IGN's score system, MadWorld is a better game than NMH2.
Good luck finding people who thought MW was better than ...
2:42 -- Naomi get new implants?
I kinda think with the voice acting and cinematics that this game may be a little more Fusion than Super Metroid.
But I'm down, regardless. I've watched that E3 trailer so many times that I've lost count. Too. Much. Win.
8.8 plus an editor's choice. Very good stuff.
That said, it's been harder and harder to really take reviews seriously this gen. Especially from IGN and their schizophrenic editorial views. This game has been on my radar since it was announced, and I was always going to get it day one, reviews be damned.
But Boz reviewed the first game and knocked it down on a few specific issues (the sandbox being the biggest culprit). It looks like those areas have been cleaned ...
An 88 score -- plus an editor's choice -- is encouraging.
I've become less and less trusting of reviews this gen, but Boz had some very specific complaints about the first game, and it seems Suda and co. answered most of them.
Day one.
To me, Bioshock and Corruption are tops this gen for creating truly awe-inspiring worlds (Elysia might be my favorite virtual playground ever).
And Super Metroid? As far as I'm concerned, it's the best game of the 2D era, and hasn't been topped by any of the 2D games that have come along since.
Metroid is so high because it's one of gaming's best franchises.
The Prime games were awesome, but they transformed Metroid into a first-person experience, whereas Zelda and Mario went the conventional third-person viewpoint route with their first 3D outings.
Now it's Metroid's turn (again). This is a true successor to Super Metroid in a way the original Prime couldn't be because of its viewpoint.
"Is a new Metroid really that wanted?"
------------
Ummm...you could say that.
This will be the first proper, 3D third-person Metroid, making it the first game of its kind since 1994.
That's the first thing that came to mind for me, too -- RS2 isn't gonna get tagged with an M-rating.
And for all its problems, MadWorld was actually a modest success.

COD has sold a million copies with each Wii release, and MWR looks like it will continue that trend.
M-rated games can sell on Wii. But super-niche games with no replayability are ...
