n4f -- Yokoi died, but Sakamoto-san was still there, the guy who directed the first game, then Super Metroid, and is in charge now of Other M.
(Plus, Makoto Kanō and Hiroji Kiyotake were main designers of the original.)
And Shigy himself said they were still trying to come up with something for the N64:
"Even through the entire Nintendo 64 period we were thinking of ways to produce a new Metroid title. We couldn't come up with any concrete ideas or ...
How the heck did bob get 5 disagrees on this?
It's a completely valid point that we've gotten some core franchises that HAVE been on the shelf for awhile. PunchOut, being a biggie. Plus not one, not two, but three Excite racers.
This is just what Nintendo does. They skipped the entire N64 gen with Metroid, one of the big three franchises!
We got two Star Foxes last gen -- Adventures and Assault. And y'know what? Not the best the series has to offer....
I thought that "MOOD" was what the Prime games did best. There's nothing like landing on Tallon IV for the first time and visiting the Chozo ruins. There's a definite mood set, IMO.
But hey, that's just me.
As for Other M...more! C'mon, Nintendo. If this game is gonna launch this summer (which seems reasonable to me, considering how long it's been in development), lets see some more gameplay clips. Please?
"Red Steel 2 will be based around the city of Caldera, situated northwest of Las Vegas in an area known as the Nevada territories. Canyons, mines, ramshackle slums and saloons will inevitably feature, but Ubisoft also tells us they'll be some surprises that we'll stumble across in the Red West, such as an ancestral monastery, or an ancient temple that rests on the edge of a cliff-side."

Can't. Wait.
Chris Hansen totally walked in on me playing Bizarre Jelly 5.
True story.
I'd say less Crank and more Kill Bill (as NMH2 is all about revenge).
The combat is deceptively complex, especially when you up the difficulty. You won't be able to button mash; you've gotta pick your spots, evade, mix in high/low attacks, kicks/punches, use charged beam shots and change between what beam katanas are ideal for each situation.
...and so on and so forth.

Yes, I've played both God of War installments on PS2. Mainly because I love Greek mythology and the history of ancient (mainly pre-Hellenistic) Greece. And yes, maxing the difficulty on NMH was harder than beating Ares. And NMH2 is even harder than the original. But you'd know that if you had played it.
You know what real "serious gamers" do? They see that each console has both strong points and weaknesses. Put simply, if you can't find tough, core games on Wii, y...
FWIW, when I went to Gamestop to buy NMH2, they asked if I wanted to reserve Other M. I asked when they had it penciled in for, and they said June.
Nice that you glossed over the games I mentioned. You wanna own Metroid on veteran or hyper difficulty? Yes it's a compilation (although no one complained with Orange Box), but Trilogy does include Echoes, and if you think Devil May Cry holds a candle to the wretched challenge in that game, you aren't being serious.
God of War? Played it. Now, Nintendo isn't going to make a gory beat 'em up, but third parties have stepped up with that on Wii. Try cranking up the difficulty i...
You're entitled to your preferences. But you'd rather judge other people's preferences in games as being inferior to yours, and that's just myopic.
Galaxy DID blow me away this gen. It has the best level design of any game I've played this whole generation.
Corruption blew me away. Visiting Elysia ranks up there with searching through Rapture for me.
PunchOut is cartoon-y. It's also damn hard. Much harder than any GTA I've played.
The Wii lacks innov...
lol
What Nintendo game is getting sequels with 15,000 sales? Their core titles do quite well. And yes, Nintendo still makes core titles. I have no idea why some people want to pretend that the only thing Nintendo makes anymore is Wii Fit.
You want a challenging game? Go get all 120 stars in Galaxy; the first 60 stars come a LOT easier than the last 60.
Sink 70 hours into LoZ:TP and tell me how a casual gamer that doesn't care about gaming will manage to get...
Bah, why bother with the classic controller for this game?
Still, tons of win.
lol
That'd be an even better example -- try to flirt with a girl by saying: "Oh, my interests? I'm hardcore. I watch porn."
...although that might work for Travis Touchdown...

Truth.
Playing videogames is nothing more than entertainment. Attach "hardcore" to just about anything in entertainment ("I'm a hardcore film buff!") and you're going to sound pretentious.
If you loved the shooter in the first one, you will absolutely love "Bizarre Jerry (Jelly)," the game in Travis' apartment. Between that and the 8-bit pizza delivery game (an homage to Rad Racer), I lost at least an hour just with them.
If you loved the first one, you'll love this one.
I only got in three hours last night. Kinda miss the sandbox, some of the 8-bit games are a tad wonky, and I haven't opened up the assassination/revenge side missions (which only GS mentions:

Overall, I'm 0.00000000000000001% underwhelmed. I h...
I'm not gonna have time to get back to my apartment tonight to play any NMH2, but this review sure makes me want to.
AEtherbane -- I don't know how much more polish could've really been put on the graphics (it's a cel-shaded Suda game, after all) or the difficulty curve, but you're definitely right on the camera. You can always re-center it, but it still goes awry a little too often.
Awesome game, regardless. I do miss the overworld/sandbox a little bit, though.
