Prime 1 is marvelous. I developed an appreciation for Prime 2 based (at least in part) on its difficulty. And I know I'm in the minority, but I like the dark world in Echoes, despite all of the purple.
But I went back and played the original the night before last and started a new game. There is nothing that compares to landing on the Tallon IV overworld and walking through the Chozo ruins for the first time.
That game was made in 2002, and somehow, it still stand...
I do wonder if they'll get all three out. I kinda expect Zelda to get delayed.
But Other M looks fantastic. According to the game devs, it's pretty much been in development since the Wii launched, so I can't see how it doesn't get released this year. It's been in the oven for awhile.
Don't write off 2011, though. Big N has gone silent on Pikmin 3 and the KI remake, and we should get at least one of them.
And Retro studios have been mighty quiet, too....
I understand if you prefer 2D gaming, but I'm with hatch...you can't just write off 3D versions of classic franchises.
Galaxy has some of the best level design ever pressed to disc. The Prime Trilogy is amazing, easily one of the greatest trilogies in gaming history (if not THE greatest...but I'm biased). Zelda? It's basically what every 3D game has copied off of since OoT.
GTA:CW is getting pretty close to a million...

It may get there before its one-year anniversary of being released.
Makes you wonder if Rockstar will ever put out a San Andreas Stories for Wii or something. The audience may not be there for a ground-up effort, but the audience is certainly there for a game from them.
To be fair...some of Malstrom's op/eds go a little off the rails (I remember him calling Metroid Fusion a "traditional" Metroid...and I can't think of a less traditional 'Troid, although Other M might come close on release).
But he WAS able to see through the b.s. and hype more than other people. More than me, certainly.
Actually, I think you listed more than I have, bob, lol.
To the point of "mature" gaming...I don't know when blood, profanity and guts made a game "mature." Are R-rated horror/slasher movies more mature than "Dr. Strangelove" or "2001: A Space Odyssey"?
Heck, it's hard to find a game that earns an M-rating more than MadWorld. But it's not a very good game, IMO.
As usual, bob is makin' sense. Unless your entire DVD collection has been trashed in favor of Blu-Ray, of course...
And since we're on the topic of movies...if 720p and 60 frames-per-second are the standard for all "1337" gamers (nevermind that some very famous games aren't 60 FPS), why go to a movie theater with that old projector running film at 24 FPS?
I'm absolutely stoked for NMH2. It fulfills my wish for a "Star Wars" meets "Kill Bill" meets "Suda...wtf, man?!" type of game.
But this one is really looking promising. And the discounted price is nice. If more Wii games launched at $39, they might get some higher first month sales (and it's not too much of a gamble, since they don't cost as much to make). Certainly making me consider this one...
"Go back to the GameCube, though, and you can hear Nintendo quietly building its vision of games not dependent on horsepower. Its big idea: fun from ideas and implementations rather than processor speed, polygon count and frame rate."
------------
If you were to boil down everything for Nintendo this gen, that's pretty much what it comes down to. And it's kinda hard to argue with. I've been playing the Prime Trilogy lately when I can get a chance, and stepping o...
I'm pleasantly surprised by the good reviews for SC:IA. This game kinda flew in under the radar (har, har), and $39 is enticing. I was set on NMH2, but I may have to make an exception and buy this, too.
Glad to see NMH2 getting some love. Only a few more days 'til release...
See...this is why you have to stay away from snide comments on a message board. Someone else always has a better snide comment waiting in the wings.
Anywho...I'd rather more companies hold off on releasing a game until it's got a few coats of polish on it. It's one of my hopes for RS2. Hopefully the extra few months did it some good.
Looks really impressive. Can't wait to play it.
If anything, it's good that the Wii exists as a change of pace. Who wants to have three consoles that are very similar?
All three consoles have their strengths. And the bigger the differences between them, the better, IMO. It lets them cover more ground overall.
Well, they delayed Twilight Princess to tack on motion controls and make it a launch title for Wii, and I think it's fair to say that it didn't take a full team of Nintendo devs to put in IR aiming for projectile combat and simple motions for sword combat.
This one has been baking in the oven for awhile. Wouldn't totally surprise me to see a delay...but it seems like Nintendo wants to make 2010 their "yeah, we can still make these games better than anyone" year.
For all of the controversy and gnashing of teeth about this game, it was probably still a modest success.

It has slowly, agonizingly, made its way to about 400K lifetime sales:
http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...
And it probably would've sold better had they priced it at $39 or so...
Saaking -- Maybe it's a PR issue as much as anything. The gaming press seems to focus more on Wii Sports/Wii Fit/Wii Music-type of games. That said, Nintendo did have a lull in releasing some core titles, so perhaps some of it is justified.
But the flat-out hatred boggles my mind. It seems like some "hardcore" gamers WANT gaming to be some sort of insular hobby.
Why can't it be both? Why can't it have games that appeal to a wider audience as well as gam...
I'm really intrigued by Motion+ combat. Is it going to zoom into a first-person perspective? Over-the-shoulder third person?
You're certainly entitled to preferring 2D gaming over 3D...but "it'll be short"?
Are ya kiddin' me? LoZ in 3D goes 20-40 hours without breaking a sweat, and I sunk 70 hours into Twilight Princess.
Anywho...if you can't see the brilliance in the great 3D crossovers (OoT, GTA3, Prime, etc.), then I guess no one will change your mind...
Bad Girl is back?
Either that, or Suda has made Heather Graham one of the assassins.
