This brings up an interesting point -- having online matches between DA and pointer controls, which hasn't happened on Wii.
Sorry, but I'll take IR/pointer (or Sony's equivalent) ANY day, the same way I'd pick someone using KBM over another using DA for a shooter. The remote/nunchuck setup doesn't top a mouse and keyboard, but it's the next best thing.
Mouse > IR/pointer > Dual Analog
Very good point about the Move bundle. The $299 price point has proven to be a sweet spot for Sony. Tacking on a $100 bundle to really jump into motion controls now makes the PS3 cost twice as much as Wii.
That effectively kills off new impulse buyers.
So does this ex-Ubi dude think "casual" Wii players will jump ship, or that "core" 360 players will? That's wishful thinking.
I hope Move succeeds and has some great games (the Wii i...
Hmm. Some of those screen caps show the same types of vanilla corridors from the first game (albeit with some slightly more interesting architecture and layout).
But there are a few truly impressive caps. The big one on NP page 71 could almost be mistaken for Phendrana (and that's the absolute highest compliment I can give HVS). NP page 72 has a lot of win.
Color me intrigued. HVS has yet to make a truly great game, so it's hard for me to get too hyped. But afte...
Dig the fight with the two pirates.
This just keeps getting better and better.
I feel the same way. The first one had a great first impression, but it ultimately let me down. But the effort was there, and that matters, because so many devs just throw shovelware on Wii.
Iron it out, HVS. You hit a ground-out single with Conduit; good swing, but you were jammed. Knock this one out of the park, and I'll be there on day one.
:looks at wallet:
Sorry, old friend. I mean, you saw that trailer, right? Right.

That's not going to change the power under the hood of the Wii, but it may help out.
Of course Wii owners don't want to be treated differently. They want GOOD games.
Look at the sales for Tiger Woods 10, a title that wasn't dumbed down on Wii (it was really the best version because of M+).
http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...
Now compare that to Madden 10, when the Wii was given a horribly dumbed down game (the 09 version started this trend, '10 was even worse...
"After a brief demo of SOCOM 4 with Move, ShackNews' Garnett Lee came away with similar complaints to those that have plagued Wii shooters for years. 'The problem remains, though, of it being hard to hold the controller freely in space in front of me and make the many fine movements needed to play a shooter. I've even resorted to resting my forearm on my leg to give it a stable base when playing similar games on the Wii. It's only a partial solution but one that no amount of tech will po...
Going back and playing Corruption, you really see just how far ahead Retro was with their scheme. No, it wasn't fully customizable, but it was so ridiculously SMOOTH.
What seems interesting to me is that, like you said, the remote/nunchuck doesn't one-up KBM, but it really does DA. It's sort of in the middle. But you can do some quasi-ninja action when you max out a fully customizable scheme, while still utilizing a camera lock like in Corruption to do lots of circle strafing ...
Put mine in at Gamestop when I got RS2. ; )
I don't know how Project M did it...but everything makes so much more sense now. It marries some 2D-ish perspective and control in a 3D game.
It's a true successor to Super Metroid.
I thought the same thing when they announced the remote-only control scheme. It just didn't seem to make sense.
But now that we've seen the game in motion and see the way the levels are designed, I think it makes perfect sense.
Look at the first actual gameplay footage that appears around the :33 mark. Yes, the main part of this game will be third-person 3D. But you're running down a narrow corridor, not a big open space, and the camera angle is fixed. Same with ...
I just had an epic hypegasm. Anyone have a smoke?
Jesus H. Christ. Speechless. I'm sorry for ever doubting you, Sakamoto-san. But next time, don't release this while I'm at work. Everyone is wondering why I'm a slack jawed fool.
Miyamoto-san is all class. He handled the M-rated/violent game question well: don't interfere with how other devs want to make games, but don't be afraid to say, in essence, that videogames aren't just for one audience who likes violent or profane content; limiting gaming to that audience limits creativity.
Atlantis? Well, I guess if you're gonna try to rip off from a game, you might as well rip off from a great one (and it doesn't get much better than Bioshock).
New screen caps, too:
http://www.nintendoeverythi...
The second and fifth one show some improved level architecture. I refuse to get too hyped (based on the track record for HVS), but that doesn't mean I'm not hoping that this game ...
You know some of the guys at HVS?
"200% better" graphics honestly wouldn't impress me. 100% better art style and level design would, though.
@madjedi -- Third parties have released some very good games on Wii. Just no AAA titles. Titles like NMH or MadWorld are niche titles and they put up niche numbers. Ditto Zack & Wiki -- what was the last point-and-click puzzler that sold like GTA?
And that's regardless of the console. The install base talking point is bunk. What, the sales of God Hand or Okami or Metal Arms meant there were no "core" gamers on the PS2? Of course not.
You simply ca...
It has SLOWLY made its way to 400K LTD.
http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...
For a new IP released during an economic downturn with precious little advertising outside of a few late night TV ads, that's not bad.
The cheap cost to develop on Wii certainly helped, too.
How much? Just listen to Ninja Theory, devs for Heavenly Sword:
I'm not sure about it pushing a million lifetime...I mean, some Nintendo games even have trouble getting there:
http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...
But we'll see. I certainly think it's worthy of a large audience.
According to all of the hands-on, it's an auto-aim scheme, but one where you must be facing the enemies.
http://wii.ign.com/articles...
However, I'm not sure a Z-targeting/button-press lock would have really been much of an improvement. The aiming in the old 'Troids wasn't really that difficult (shoot up or down, jump to height of enemy), and simple missile spamming was normal. To do that wit...
