There you go, bob...makin' sense again.
I'm all for more 2D sections. Bring 'em on. I had resolved myself to restricting my gaming budget, and not buying anything before Other M drops. But between this and MH:Tri, it's not easy, lol.
I'd really like for you to be right, but I can't see Nintendo revealing anything about Zelda before E3.
The phrasing of their statement ("In addition to an exclusive cover story on a huge new title...") doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a game we haven't seen previously, just that's it's going to be a big new game. In-depth on Other M, possibly?
Man, I'd pretty much convinced myself that MH wasn't my type of game. But I'm really curious...
...which is why Nintendo will probably show off more of Other M in addition to Zelda. And the 3DS. And most likely a blowout of The Last Story and Xenoblade.
And then they still have Retro's secret game and Project Sora up their sleeves.
Wow. An article on Other M that actually gets it right and calls it a 3D action game (amazing how the camera angles throw off "gaming journalists"). Good job, GR.
Can't wait. This is my most anticipated game of the year (even over Zelda).
This is my most anticipated game of the year (yes, even over Zelda...as we know nothing about LoZ).
But c'mon, how many times are people going to call this game 2D?
Sakamoto-san has given plenty of interviews since this game's unveiling, and in pretty much all of them he's given the reason for collaborating with Team Ninja -- he wanted help making a 3D action game.

I'd "other" her "M."
4 disagrees now? Fools.
DL-ing Super is a must. It deserves a spot on your first menu screen.
Great interview.
Love the bromance with Team Ninja. ; )
GI also gave MPT a second opinion score of 7 (apparently that reviewer has NO IDEA how to play FPS/FPA with Wii controls). Sorry, they are one source that I don't trust on anything Wii-related.
You do know that Other M has been in development since 2006, right? It's hardly "giving up" on the console, when Zelda, TLS, Xenoblade, Retro's game and Project Sora are all still in the pipeline, too.
Look at the prior release dates for the past few Metroids. That'll tell you why it was given the release date in August. Plus, it makes sense to space out big first-party releases.
It isn't much of a delay. I doubt it's even for polishing or changing voice acting. They probably just wanted to space their big releases out so that they aren't cannibalizing sales.
I'm with bob on this one. There is NOTHING casual about the controls for Other M. Watch the gameplay trailer:

Notice how fast Samus is? Now, remember how SLOW she was in MPT (and I say that as a huge Retro fanboy)? Look at the platforming at the one minute mark. See how Samus turns on a DIME? That's because of digital controls instead of...
I'm not terribly surprised by a Metroid delay (the S&P2 delay is only a matter of weeks). As long as it is still released this year, no complaints from me (it does space out N's major releases better, too).
That said...if Other M is bumped to be the big holiday title, thereby pushing Zelda 'til 2011...that would truly suck.
I'm not surprised. Wii games don't usually have blockbuster openings. In exchange, they tend to sell better over a longer period of time. That's why it's a bit myopic to look exclusively at first week/month sales data. Look at this game's sales in about 6 months for a better idea of exactly how well it has done.
Compare how this game sold to something like Borderlands. On PS3, it opened with about 65K in North America:
"To begin with, Metroid: Other M is strictly a Wiimote controlled game. The buttons just don't seem plentiful enough to control Samus in 2D or 3D space. It's hard to think how you use rockets and other equipment using the Wiimote held sideways. On top of that, you can also switch to First Person mode on the fly, but that is also limited to the Wiimote. When you enter First Person mode, you have to turn your Wiimote vertically so you can point and shoot."

Good to see Samus get the respect she deserves. :)
"It’s Nintendo’s first full-year annual decline in six years, but is also the third most profitable year in the company’s records.
"The main cause for the numbers, according to the firm, was cuts to the price of Wii hardware as well as a lack of triple-A software releases for the format."

When your third most profitable year is still somehow considered a real decline...you're doin' it...
