Nintendo has always had lulls in their release schedule. You can't polish a game quickly; you've got to really go over it with a microscope to examine its flaws. They will never rush a Mario/Metroid/Zelda game out the door for that reason.

These lulls are just a lot more noticeable when you're "winning" the console war (after not having "won" one for a relatively long time).

You got RS2, bob? Awesome sauce. I had a little trouble with the controls at first, but once I moved my sensor bar to the top of my TV, everything clicked. Truly AMAZED at the LyN engine (hard to believe it's scalable and not Wii-specific).

If only Ubi's level design was a little more varied. Still a fantastic game, though.

I'll be DL-ing RotG this weekend, probably.

Using LoZ:TP as an acid test for motion controls is so stupid that it's barely worth addressing. Gee, you mean a Gamecube game ported over with a tacked-on gameplay mechanic didn't fully exploit motion controls? Really? You don't say? Fricking moron.

Move demos did have lag; they point to a brawling game. Guess what? When you chain together button presses for combos in fighting games, the finished moves that appear onscreen usually aren't instantaneous, either. And 1:1 mot...

The 8.5 to 9 range is exactly where I'd rank this game, too. The controls, art style and visuals are all ridiculously high quality. Mission variety and level design aren't quite up to the same standard, though.

Put in a few more hours last night, and I'm really starting to get a feel for the combat. It's amazing. It's a make your own combo game (really the first of its kind). Vertical slash, stab, turn around, shoot another guy in the knee, spin attack? No problem.

The bundle is $60 ($10 cheaper than what you'd pay for buying M+ separately), same price as a 360 or PS3 game. Plus, get M+ now and you don't have to buy it when Zelda drops.

The 85-90 range seems about right, IMO. This game has a LOT going for it -- the best implementation of M+ in a full-on action game, the best third-party graphics on Wii (gives Galaxy and Corruption a run for their money). It's held back a bit by its narrative and level design, but not in a way that really detracts from its strengths at all.

This is basically a Motion+ launch title for full-on action games. Ubi got a LOT right. But it's not going to be loved by everyone; I lov...

Yep. It gets an "A" on sword combat, shooting, the art style and the graphics. It's all top shelf (the visuals really did surprise me; the game is flat-out gorgeous).

But the level design, mission structure and enemy variety are all lower quality. None of those factors are particularly bad or game breaking, but they aren't as ridiculously high quality as the things the game nails.

However...this is really a M+ launch title. It's the first action game th...

If either this or Xenoblade launches late in the year to complement Zelda...my wallet is really gonna be hurting.

I'm in shock. I can't believe GI liked this game. These guys mostly haven't even liked IR/pointer controls in shooting games.

Even more shocking...the reviewer GETS this game -- "Wagglers need not apply." This is a true MOTION controlled game. It's the Wii Sports bowling/tennis of M+ Action games.

However, that also means it's a bit basic, overall. Very fair critique: "The combat is so good that it deserves a better game."

The le...

Yep. What I want to see is a release date.

And there's nothing that has been announced for the back half of the year. We'll get SMG2, S&P2 and M:OM, which is a stacked lineup for a FULL year. I wouldn't be surprised if Pikmin 3 joins Zelda as a one-two punch for the end of the year.

I've been a little worried about the controls, too...but the number of buttons doesn't really seem to be a hindrance. Seems like a very streamlined scheme, but one that isn't dumbed down, either.

D-pad movement for a 3D game seems awkward at first, but it seems less awkward when you consider the fixed camera system (which frames the action to make it sometimes look like an old school 2D 'Troid -- although Samus is always free to move in any direction).

It just might...

joemayo76 -- What grading scale are you using, man? I'm just thinking regular old percentage-based scoring.

90 or higher would be an "A," while anything in the 80's would be a "B."

"Red Steel 2 is absolutely an 'A product.'"

...that received a B-plus rating. The same as Conduit, a game NO ONE would confuse with being an "A product."

IGN really needs to get their crap together. Subjectivity will come into play with every review, but there have to be some editorial standards (you're reviewing on behalf of an entire organization), or else your rating scale means nothing.

I couldn't roll my eyes harder if I tried.

They are videoGAMES. You PLAY them. Being able to dictate action onscreen is what makes a game INTERACTIVE. You don't interact with movies, you watch them. That's the point; there is SUPPOSED to be a difference.

And c'mon, "meeting" a programmed onscreen character? Sorry, that's not revolutionary. It's just another NPC with more sophisticated programming for AI.

When games are no longer games, an...

1:1 sounds great on paper. But then you have to realize there's no physical feedback; you swing your sword in a complete motion and you're then holding the remote itself at the bottom of the swing, yet it was blocked halfway on screen by the game. Then what?

"1:close to 1" makes gameplay workable in this sense.

OTOH, it matched up quite well in a game like TW10, which had very little noticeable lag at all. It all depends on the type of game.

This.

They're already trying to nail Motion+ in Zelda. I doubt they'd add anything else in. Plus, it would go against Nintendo's SOP this gen -- they'd release the vitality sensor with a "Wii (fill in blank)" title, most likely.

I think the problem has really just been third parties being lazy. There was a metric **** ton of shovelware on the PS1/PS2, but people didn't mind. Why? Third parties stepped up to the plate and released great AAA titles.

They haven't done that so far on Wii. Games like MadWorld or NMH are definitely not AAA-budgeted efforts. They're narrowly targeted niche games (I love NMH, but I realize I'm in the minority among gamers).

RS2 and MH:Tri are, as far as I can s...

I'd give more bubbles for this if I hadn't already done so for your other posts.

Completely on the mark. I was even thinking "I gotta mention Halloween because of the horror movie reference...oh, nevermind, he got there first."
(And I think you're absolutely right. I hate horror movies that have become torture porn.)

This whole "M-rated means core" thing is ridiculous. It doesn't get much more "core" than games like MPT. Echoes...

Story isn't what Mario is about. Who the heck plays Mario for plot? You play it for the level design, and that's how Nintendo has freshened it up.

Same goes for Metroid. If anyone can honestly say "y'know, Prime is just too much like Super Metroid for me," I'd have to laugh at them. The games couldn't play more differently.

Zelda? IMO, it DOES need a new direction. They've created some great variations on the OoT theme, but that gameplay template is g...
