They have ONE leg to stand on here... the $50 a year fee. The rest of the reasons are the same fanboy slobber we mop up on a daily basis at n4g.
What would be a great promo... they start sticking this application on normal Blu-ray movies.
Liquified is one of those people who will find any wedge they can drive to ensure Blu-ray is superior in their minds. As for the quality "switching", he's refering to the way the quality ramps up to 1080p At worst, I have seen the quality drop to 720p if there is traffic on my network, like a file server backup. And I have to have the bitrate display up on my screen to even notice it.
As for the sound... you know for a fact most people don't care as much about the so...
+Bubbles for rational thoughts and people who actually read the article.
SPAM reports and -bubbles for "Failbox" comments. There is reason you are stuck in the Open Zone, losers...
To clarify, those who got it in the Preview Program got it normally. You can actually dump the update to a drive and force the update. But Microsoft knows that you aren't in the preview and will block most of the features.
That's what this article is saying.
As far as I'm concerned, the dynamic streaming is HUGE. And after 10 seconds (at most) when the stream hits 1080p, it looks just as good as Blu-ray. There are people who say "it doesn't have the color" or "it still looks compressed". They are just haters. I'll bet you $59.99 you couldn't tell the difference reliably in a blind test. It's super crisp and pretty awesome.
Last.fm is pretty cool too. It has already displaced Pandora for me.
Sony can compete with Netflix. Easily. They offer a more up to date selection. The big problem I have with PSN's video store is the trouble I have had streaming their content consistently.
Which leads me to Xbox Live's new Zune Marketplace (I'm in the preview). As far as I'm concerned, it's a quantum leap forward in on-demand, HD video content. I have a 5 MB connection and I can stream 1080p content easily. I was skeptical, but Microsoft TOTALLY delivered on the promise. <...
This image is not safe for work if you work with insecure women...
Just want to make it clear... your snarkiness isn't funny. It's just juvenile.
See, I don't think this is a three-sided war at all. It's most DEFINITELY a two-sided war: PS3 AND 360... vs. Wii. This is about the hardcore against the casual.
Except most PS3 fanboys are obsessed with taking snarky potshots at 360, and 360 fanboys are blind to the issues keeping 360 merely "good enough" to stay ahead of PS3. Meanwhile, Wii keeps putting up incredible sales numbers and grabbing more mind share with dirt cheap hardware and mediocre design.
...
You know, I was going to walk into this article with an open mind, but then he had to talk about FFXIII VS as the "real next-gen FF". It's amazing how insecure PS3 fanboys get when they lose an exclusive.
Largely, I agree with most of the rest of the list... largely because I'd get to play the FPS in this list with a 360 controller, but Killzone 2 would have done about the same. Halo and Gears did well on 360 because... surprise... they put some effort into the contro...
I still can't get over how they cut the blood out of Sigma 2. Doesn't sound definitive to me.
Holy Crap. What a backhanded thing to say. I bet the article is just some snarkaholic talking about how PS3 version is the "real" version. What an asshole.
And no, this article is blocked because of "Sex". Thanks for getting me fired...
Yikes... Goldeneye, while a significant milestone in the FPS genre, has NO BUSINESS being that high in the list. Go back and look at the game... or even it's better sequel. They did NOT age well at all.
*sigh* Titles like that don't exactly give me confidence. First we had "halo killers". Now, we have "mass effect killers"?
I love my Xbox... but $100 is too much to pay.
Now, IF Microsoft were to say $100 for lifetime membership, I would pay that...
The ONLY way I would plop down $100 in one swoop is to get lifetime membership. I'm fine with paying $50 a year. I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. But $100 is over the line.
I have cancer. Maybe I should have my IT department look at it. After all, they are generally smart guys. They know how to Google for solutions.
That must make them qualified to have an opinion on the matter...
...just like all the people in this thread...
And da winner is? I say the PC. I prefer to play games on a console, but I really think the PC version looks like it handles better.
This is a BAAAAAAD idea Microsoft. Think of the kids whose parents went cheap and bought an Arcade unit and a cheaper Datel memory card. Do you really want to screw them over like this? Jesus Christ, backpedal on this one before it's too late.
I admit, I'm part of the problem, because I bought the way over priced 120 gig hard drive.
You clearly haven't seen the 1080p streaming, which much to my surprise delivers on the claims. I would hardly call Netflix the only leg they have to stand on. The Zune Marketplace is a quantum leap ahead of anything Sony does... and if they are just now getting to the Netflix party... it's a little late for that.
And yes, I have access to the preview and can make these claims.
