Now I've got a headache... Thanks cross-eyed mode! I might get suck this way!
*facepalm*
Pushing a console to it's "limits" is entirely meaningless when it comes to a good game. Games like Metal Gear Solid, Killzone, Gears of War, Halo... they would be nothing if they didn't have SOLID GAMEPLAY. If you want a game I think pushed it's system in ways that actually mattered, look no further than LittleBigPlanet...
The funny thing about the lag vs. glitches: We've been complaining about "lag", so they shift toward lowest cost processing of the skeletal tracking... leading to more glitches.
It's a balancing act. Which do you want... accurate skeletal tracking or lower lag? OR, would you prefer to have a setting where you can tune it to your own preferences?
Negativity towards 3D...
Oh that's easy. We simply don't see 3D being that important, that well done, or that worth the cost. What's hard to understand about that?
On the other hand, this is what gets me about PS3: the sixaxis, PSP remote, and now 3D... all of these extraneous features are hoops that Sony fanboys appear to be jumping through, not because they add something useful to the experience, but because it proves how hardcore of a fanboy...
From what I see... and what I experienced playing the demo... it's not the load times that kill this game:
"The modding is terrific, but what about the racing? This is, sadly, where the game fails to hold up."
This sounds pretty true to me. I LOVE the creation tool, but the racing is... disappointing.
This is a viable future... if it works. The fact of the matter is that the Internet is not a guaranteed-delivery network. Our web browsers work in such a way that they re-request data packets they don't recieve because there is time for it. However, when you are playing a game, asking for where your enemy is in seconds 1, 2, and 3, it doesn't do you a lot of good to get that data back as 2, 1, 3. We call that "lag", in general (and "packet loss", in specific). ...
There's also the 10 year old gamer that clings to you and always wants to be on chat with you. God, that annoys me.
Real Gamers of the world unite.
And go play Blur because it's fun.
Last Square game that genuinely enthralled me was, ironically, also the first to do so. Chrono Trigger.
@Below: I was... in my pre-teens.
Yeah, I know that. CT wasn't exactly "cinematic", but it was certainly deep enough, gameplay-wise, and the story was developed at least as well as a decent anime. But I can say that, having replayed the DS version, the same has still aged very well.
Blaming the decision on making a poorly paced, linear piece of junk to play on 360... that was also a poorly paced, linear piece of much prettier junk on the PS3?
Sure, that makes a lot of sense. Let's blame an eskimo taking a wizz on the ice for the ice caps melting. I'm sure it's easier.
In my opinion, SquareEnix has lost their touch. This is a widely held opinion, and you might not agree with it, but lets not blame anything except the game. ...
What's funny is that "killing" a franchise only happens when they stop making games for that series. So, until we don't see any new Halo games for 5 years, Halo won't be dead.
In other words, "killer" games don't really exist. Games kill themselves.
I'm not sure it's crossed your mind, but have you considered that Sony is not infallible?
Wait. Who said that Infamous is a Sony owned property? Was Crash Bandicoot? They were published by Sony at first too, but now it's available on other platforms...
Galaxy 2 doesn't compel me to play it. It feels like a fan-mod of the original game.
An interesting theory, Mr. Pop. I don't think it's unlikely. Controlling sticker shock is one of the most important considerations, and I think it's the number one reason the PS3 got off to a rocky start. Imagine if they had high-balled the price in rumors with talk about how much the components actually cost, and then launched at the original prices, we would have seen a faster adoption.
Maybe they did and I missed it.
Why do you think it would be random?
It would probably be "assisted". You kick not-at-the-goal-but-at-a-team- mate and it will probably go in that direction.
Fight Night is easy, but anything that requires kicking... I dunno...
I still think Natal is going to come up with some great casual gameplay, but nothing that really relies on hardcore mechanics. My vote is still for Move. (I'm really getting sick of having to qualify that every time I have something nice to say about Natal so I don't get my bubbles crucified.)
The demo was ok. I love that more games are pushing the procedural envelope, but it just doesn't have the same polish that other sports games have.
If Microsoft cares about the future of their console, it will be $100, max... and properly adjusted in other territories.
Funny thing... "hologaming" would be pretty stupid if you really think about it. It doesn't put you in the game. It just gives you a limited area where the graphics are shown are 3Dish. Holos are best for communication, the way they are implemented in Star Wars for example.
Now, if tech like Microsoft Surface suddenly turned holographic, that would be something else entirely... but that's not this.
