You're smoking. The fact the games don't answer all questions and keep things cryptic add TONS of atmosphere and mood to them. It's an action RPG that feels like a survival horror game. And these games reward persistence and cunning better than any other game series. Finding that nifty new weapon or beating that hard boss feel like massive accomplishments. Instead of being a game made with one big goal, these games have many small goals, which does wonders for their replay value. ...
One thing I noticed going back to Demon's Souls after playing both Dark Souls games is that it is SO much faster than the other two. Going back to Demon's Souls felt like the jump in speed from Street Fighter 2 to SF2 Turbo. Riposting also felt much nicer in Demon's Souls, you really felt like you could capitalize out of parrying.
Edit: Oh, and my go-to setup to get hatemail was to make a speed build with loads of stamina and wail on them with the Baby's Nail....
The Souls series is amazing because there really is no other series that makes you feel so accomplished when you progress through it. Every other game makes you feel triumphant when you beat it, while the Souls series makes you celebrate every new bonfire you reach and every boss you beat. And I usually HATE multiplayer games, but the multiplayer in the Souls series is completely unique and different from every other game. The anonymity and lack of direct communication between players actuall...
I didn't put any credence on the rumor because not only is October historically the timeframe the Batman games come out, the series is also already big enough that it doesn't have to fear competition to sell. It's also in a genre niche(sandbox/3rd person brawler) that doesn't really give it any direct competition like, say, a military FPS would have.
Honestly, the moment this game was announced, it instantly became my most awaited game. I will defend Arkham Ci...
Hey, dude, as long as what you're saying is intelligent and on topic, we don't mind the funky grammar, at least you're trying. There's native English speakers on these forums who write MUCH worse than you do, lol.
The 30-day-in-advance subscription cancellation thing is ABSOLUTE EVIL BULLSHIT. I've never seen such a blatant display of highway robbery on part of a videogame company. It's one thing to sell you a shitty product, it's another to actually punish you with paying more money when you're trying to get rid of the damn thing.
The ones I'd love coming back:
-Folklore: Severely underrated, and with more modern gameplay mechanics it'd be an instant classic. They HAVE to keep the art style, though, since it was mind-blowingly beautiful.
-Jet Moto: Why this particular franchise never had a sequel beyond the PS1 baffles me.
-Syphon Filter: This one would not only have an awesome single-player, I think its multiplayer mode would be amazing fun. Taser fights!
-Wild Arms: There's...
I'm betting that will happen much sooner this generation that with the PS3. The PS3 was very hard to break even on because the Cell processor was such a unique architecture. With its more reasonably priced and available components, the PS4 will be able to reach that point much faster, not to mention that it's already selling leaps and bounds better than the PS3 did at launch.
That's part of the reason brand loyalty is a much bigger deal in Sony's camp than MS's. MS tries to breed brand loyalty by timed exclusives and "coolness" factor. Sony does it by actually providing quality content exclusive(much of it for free) and listening to their fans.
Well I'll be damned, Pachter saying something reasonable for once. A price drop for the PS4 would be DISASTROUS for MS, and it doesn't even have to be that much of a price drop, $25 would still make a huge splash. But a $50 price drop would mean that for the previous price you could get both the PS4 and a one-year subscription to Plus. Hell, they could just leave the price the same and bundle the Plus subscription and MS would still break a cold sweat.
MS's irrati...
YES ON LAGGERS AND CHEATERS. That is the one reason I do not online game on PC at all. Dark Souls 2 just came out, and I have friends who waited for the PC version telling me they were being invaded by lvl 800 phantoms with all the best gear on Day 1. That shit completely ruins the experience.
So you're telling me that, according to these numbers, the XB1 on default is roughly 10 times as powerful as the X360? Umm, no, bullshit much? Yes, the new systems are more powerful than the previous gen's. TEN TIMES as powerful? Are they fucking smoking?
EXACTLY. Seriously, why am I getting so many disagrees when I'm merely pointing out that the community and game balance in the console versions of the game are preferable to the unplayable munchkinfest that the PC version always turns into? Yes, the PC version is prettier and can be modded into making the console version look prehistoric, but the fact remains that if you want to actually play the real DS2 experience, you gotta go console because the PC cheaters ruin it.
Yeah, the game looks nicer... and I already have friends who waited for the PC version who were massacred on Day 1 by a hacked lvl 800 invader.
Between prettiest graphics and no griefers and hackers ruining my game, obvious choice is obvious.
Well, to be fair, Hayter's not done much beyond Solid Snake/Big Boss. He's one of the greats, but this article also takes quantity of work into account.
And that really does make Troy Baker top of the list. I mean, geez, he was in pretty much every GOTY candidate of last year. And the author said he has a pretty samey voice?! HE VOICED THE GODDAMN JOKER!!
Considering it's OUR money that is being talked about here, it is DEFINITELY an issue worth considering in game reviews. I am much more willing to make a day 1 purchase on a game if I know it has substantial length or replay value(they're not the same).
I always use the Souls games as an excellent example of value for your money. Not only are the games pretty damn long on a first playthrough(I'm 80+ hours into Dark Souls 2 and still haven't beaten it yet), but...
Dude, Borderlands was online for 5 years, that's an insane amount of time. Plus, they have to free resources for other upcoming online games, you have to make the cuts somewhere. Could be worse, could be like what happened when the 360 came out, that the original XBox pretty much became dead in the water immediately.
Borderlands 2 is still going strong and had new DLC released recently, so I don't see it going offline anytime soon. Not to mention the Vita version is out soon too. Borderlands 1 had a good run, it kept strong online for the last 5 years. That's an eternity in gaming years, very impressive.
OH GOD NO. This game is LITERALLY the one I bought a PS4 in anticipation for. More than Watch_Dogs, more than Destiny, more than any other. It'll seriously break my heart if this does happen.
I don't even consider this series a JRPG. It is nothing like the typical JRPG formula, feeling more like a more directly controlled dungeon crawler mixed with the sheer difficulty and itemfests of a Roguelike. It may be Japanese-MADE, but it's very far from Japanese-flavored. Hell, this series is MASSIVELY more popular in the West than in Japan. I'm pretty sure the Japanese servers for Demon's Souls were shut down a while ago, while they're still going strong in the West, ...
