This isn't a headscratcher at all, if it's put in context: Japan not only has had more Final Fantasy titles than the West, they also had a load of big games from other big RPG franchises around that time. FF7 is the one which turned FF into a global phenomenon, but it was just one of many games as far as Japan is concerned. FF will NEVER beat Dragon Quest in Japan, for example. As for the Legend of Heroes franchise, that series is HUGE in Japan, it basically being Falcom's flagshi...

Agreed. I always use for example Battletoads. Anyone who has fond memories of Battletoads is psychotic. It's always cited as a hard game, but it is not, it's an UNFAIR game. Limited continues, loads of "gotcha!" cheap kills, constantly changing mechanics and a ridiculohs difficulty spike if played 2-player. Compare that to, say, Dark Souls, which is undisputably a hard game, but it gives the player the tools to tackle it, and its difficulty can be taken on through various me...

Persona 5 is full of attractive female characters that fit into multiple anime archetypes (ditzy glamorous girl, super serious student council president, meganekko shut-in hacker, etc), and absolutely NONE of them is anything less that completely fun, interesting and fully realized as a character. Characters can be pretty and compelling. They're not mutually exclusive and it can actually add a lot to a character that they are visually appealing on top of appealing in terms of character.

"Cyberpunk" cannot be trademarked. "Cyberpunk 20XX" can. The first is a genre of fiction, the second is a particular work within that genre of fiction. In any case, it's not CDPR's property to trademark anyway, R. Talsorian Games, the creators of the original pen-and-paper RPG, are the ones who own the IP, while CDPR owns the license. Same casw with The Witcher. The Witcher as a game is CDPR's trademark. The Witcher as an IP belongs to Andrzej Sapkowski.

I can kind of agree with this post. It's never gonna be at the level of FF7, because that was a once in a generation event (and I mean in the social sense, not the console sense), but I actually know a lot of people not into JRPGs who've asked me about getting Persona 5 for multiple reasons, including it's great buzz, anime fan appeal and great presentation. Even if it doesn't create new JRPG fans, it's certainly creating new PERSONA fans.

I already played Arms 21 years ago. You know, when it was called Virtual-On Cyber Troopers.

No Metroid, no interest.

The Playstation brand is unstoppable simply because it offers the most exclusives, and within those exclusives you find the most unique and even risky games imaginable. Sony is not afraid to innovate and give their first- and second-party developers freedom to experiment and come up with new franchises and game experiences year after year. The XBox brand is as generic as it gets in terms of what their library has to offer, and even Nintendo, for all its "innovation" in terms of how ...

The main problem with Japanese games is that they're made for a Japanese audience. I'm not saying a game should not be distinctly Japanese (I AM a Persona fan, after all, and that series is as Japanese as it gets), but most Japanese games are designed with the Japanese demographic to an extent that they alienate Western fans. If you see which Japanese franchises are the most succesful and best-selling in America (Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Persona, etc.), they are quite distinct...

It's really f'ing stupid to scream about cultural appropriation when one of the MAIN PLOT POINTS is that there is NO LINK culturally between this generation of humans and ours. There isn't any culture to appropriate. What, that the Nora culture is animistic and believes in an All-Mother deity? Every single continent has ...

No Persona 5 on the list makes it absolutely worthless.

The Witcher 3 is an amazing game with a scope that dwarfs HZD... but come on, the combat in HZD is leagues better. The Witcher 3's combat is there just to move the story along. In HZD, it's the main focus od the game.

My main storyline question is how the game fits into the timeline. It'd be pretty awesome if the game happened concurrent with the War of The Ring and we saw a few of the classic LOTR characters make an appearance.

They did exactly what they were supposed to: take the best part of the original (the Nemesis system) and massively expanded it and made it more integral to the gameplay. This game looks spectacular, definitely a day 1 buy for me. Man, this is gonna be one epic year for gaming.

@GTgamer: Not only that, it also makes me wonder how other developers that make open world games can't make one with constant game performance like Horizon when they have lesser overall graphics *cough* Fallout 4! *cough*

I have taken more screencaps of this game than every other game in my PS4 library combined. I love looking for a beautiful view then messing around with the weather and day/night cycle for that perfect shot. It only helps to endear me to the game's world that much more.

The one thing I did notice is facial expressions, especially the microexpressions and facial wrinkilng. Seeing chin wrinkles when a character pouts, eye-rolling in frustration and dimples when smiling add so much to a character beyond tone of voice.
