^ Err, I don't think running a game at the lowest settings, in sub-HD and sub-30fps is much of an argument since those games are considered unplayable.

If you're going to those depths, then there aren't exactly a whole lot of PC games that can't be played like that.
It's just that, not many people would be able to enjoy it.

From my experiences with Ghandhi, I'd say civilisation is usually off the mark.

Then again, we never know if he would've behaved differently if he had nukes.

Quick time events, life threatening scenes, and even plane wreckages aren't exactly things pioneered by Uncharted.

They might remind YOU of scenes from uncharted, but that doesn't really hold a lot of weight.
They can make a remake of TombRaider2 and it would sound like a UC2 clone, wanna know why? Because its plot revolved around an artifact dagger, tibetan monks, and a mafia leader obsessed with power. Sounds pretty familiar, no?

The new TR ...

The current build is very old and the purpose is to stress servers. It isn't meant to test gameplay and isn't meant to be as a demo. You're in the beta to help make Dust a better game, and right now you're mostly there to hump the servers.
(Hence why the servers are mostly online on weekends)

Check the E3 vids, and you'll see the game is much different from what's in the beta, and as Hammad said, they'll be updating it to the newer build.

Don't have to. If mods were allowed, then the community would fix their game for them.
That's how it's been in the past.

Although traditional mod tools are harder to work with and take longer to produce content, they also give the creators more freedom and often lead to mods that can do something unique.
It's not really PC-specific, LPB2's creation tools are pretty complex and the amount of freedom it gives can be seen in the creative levels created by people far more talented then I'll ever be.

As for getting those mods to run, Steam's Workshop has made the process cons...

CS 1.6 had some pretty good hitreg.

CS:S' hitboxes were in some kind of quantum superposition and were pretty wonky until Valve updated it to the newer engine version. Less wonky now, still not perfect.

Can't say anything about GO though. I'd figure with a game so competitive in nature, Valve'd be focused on getting hit detection right.

The question is not about outputting the same 7 year old game; it is about running a game at 60fps.

You admit you know nothing about hardware, yet at the same time state that the hardware has nothing to do with it.
The only thing that Carmack said was that getting 60fps is more challenging than expected. Carmack is a guy that knows a thing or two about hardware, yet you're pretty quick to discredit him and defend the hardware.
Even then, just because he sa...

Please tell me that the irony in your statement was intentional.

CoD uses a modified version of iD's old engine to begin with (even older than Doom3's engine)
I don't see how they'd be able to teach iD anything.

I'd figure they've already tried/thought-of it.
But since most of the shopping gets done at the end of the year, and likely nets them the bigger profits.

Summer is usually the time to get the games you missed for cheap... or catching up on your backlog.

It has games... it's just poorly advertised.

... why would you want Steam to stream netflix? O.o
You can just use netflix directly.

I'm not sure about XBL, but I haven't really found any issues with finding people to play with on PSN. KZ2's server browser makes it pretty easy to find a match.

The demographics of each system is debatable (and often variable), but in terms of harboring an active community, I don't see how XBL does things any better than PSN to justify the cost.

Well, if you're aiming for photorealism, then game engines aren't at that level yet... but for something stylized, using a game engine might be viable. (Valve's "Meet the..." videos for TF2 are a good example)

Next-gen engines especially seem suited for it, considering what SquareEnix has shown.

Valve isn't really doing much in the project. They've just licensed their engine to the film-makers.

So don't worry, it's not going to interfere with the development of Ricochet2 and AlienSwarm2. =/

It's a pretty atmospheric game.
There are a few polishing issue, the most noticeable one being that bullets seem to lack a punch (i.e. animation isn't up to par with visuals).

It's still a pretty enjoyable game and I found the ending to be interesting.
